This Place needs No Introduction. ๐ Unless you have been living under a Rock, you will surely know who Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) is, so I will not describe further. ๐ Back in Sept 2024 when he opened his First Flagship Eatery in this KL Pavilion Mall, the Queues were Absolutely Insane. ๐ณ There are People who were willing to Queue for HOURS just to eat it. ๐ณ Just look at this Photo to see what I mean. Photo Credit: MalayMail.comEven when he opened a Branch recently in JB it still drew Massive Crowds. ๐ณ I myself refrained from visiting it because I want my 1st Taste of this to be their Original KL Flagship. ๐ฒ๐พ๐ Now almost 1 Year later after the Hype has mostly settled, there are Zero Queues at this Very Flagship Store at Pavilion when I visited at 10.40am on a Monday Morning. ๐ Hahaha Queue? ๐ What Queue?

The Interior of the Restaurant
Predominantly Orange Themed, ๐ง the Whole Place has a Very Bright and Cheery Look and has this Fast Food Restoran sort of Vibe. ๐ Cleanly Maintained, there was only 1 Lady Staff manning the Front Counter and she was Very Friendly, Cheery and Welcoming. ๐๐
Other than being a Restaurant, there is a Small Counter selling his Merch ๐ and Adorably a Small "Cosplay Booth" with an Adorable Cartoon Figure Standee of Uncle Roger himself complete with a Wok and Spatula for Customers to take Photos with. ๐จ๐ณ๐ฉ๐ณ
Very Family Friendly Oriented Place, I see lots of Kids having fun having their Photos taken with this Cute Cosplay Booth. ๐ฆ๐ง
The Music Background they play here are some Upbeat English Evergreen Pop Songs ranging from YMCA to Kool & The Gang's Joanna to Berlinda Carlisle's Summer Rain. ๐ต๐ถ Nice. ๐

On the Table is a Mala Chili Condiment. ๐ถ️ Not Bad Tasting, it has an Initial Salty Hit and gradually changes to a Lingering Spicy Heat. ๐ถ️ Not Bad ็บขๆฒน actually. But of course this is not the Right Type of Chilli to eat with Classic Malaysian Fried Rice. ๐
Do also take note that this Place does not accept Cash. ๐ต๐ ♂️ Only Wireless Payments like Debit/Credit Cards etc. ๐ณ๐ Anyway it took about 8 Mins for the Items I ordered to be served up together.
๐ถ️ Uncle Roger's Secret Sambal = RM4.00
They have a Spicy Version of Fried Rice that has this Sambal but I'm not sure if the Sambal is incorporated within ๐ค so I ordered their Non-Spicy Fried Rice and ordered this Ala-Carte Separately to test the Sambal Quality on its own. I also wanted to find out just how much Sambal they give and how "Secret" it is. ๐ค
Mostly Soft in Texture, this is not those Very Gritty type of Sambal. ๐ถ️๐ค I noticed a Presence of Cuttlefish. ๐ฆ Certainly has Onion mixed in, ๐ง and is not those Very Earthy Robust Type. Sweet but also not Very Super Sweet until like Malay-Styled of Nasi Lemak Sambal. ๐ถ️๐ค

What is very prominent is the use of Chilli Padi ๐ถ️ which gives it a Noticeable Elevated Level of Spiciness. ๐ถ️๐ค This Level of Spiciness may be Too Strong for People who absolutely cannot take even abit of Spicy. ๐ถ️๐ฅต If you are used to Spicy though, this is fine. What I also like is after the Initial Spicy Assault has run its course, it settles in and forms a Soft Lingering Heat in your Throat. ๐ฅ Impressive.
๐ Uncle Roger's Egg Fry Rice (Non Spicy) = RM16.00
They have Several Different Variations of Fried Rice filled with Various Proteins at Different Price Points ๐ต๐ค but of course I chose their Basic Fundamental Non-Spicy one to try.
Appearance of the Dish
For one thing, I liked the Aroma wafting from it which has a Nice Delicious ๆฒน้ฆๅณ. ๐ Appearance as you can see is those Darker Coloured type of Fried Rice which means this one adds More Dark Soy Sauce. ๐ฏ๐ค It also comes with a Sunny Side Egg on Top. ๐ณ

Amount of Rice also looks Decent, Not Stingy. ๐ Served on a Decent Looking Plate with Spring Onion Pieces. The Dish is Bright and Colourful. ๐ No issues with the Appearance ๅ็ธ. This is as Good Looking or arguably even Better Looking than a Typical SG Kopitiam Dull and Plain Looking Tze Char Level of Fried Rice. ๐

Actual Taste of the Dish.
Yes, I can actually taste some Wok Hei although its not Very Gao Gao Level. ๐ Compared to alot of Half-Hearted SG Kopitiam Tze Char Level of Fried Rice, this is actually considered Better in Quality. ๐ Freshly Warm and Moist, this wasn't Overly Oily. Not Mushy nor Overly Dry. ๐ This is a Very Well Done Plate of Fried Rice that is ็ฒ็ฒๅๆ. ๐๐

Despite already having a Sunny Egg on Top, I'm glad to see they still added More Egg Pieces within the Rice, ๐ฅ with No Attempts to Scrimp, therefore making this a True Egg Fried Rice ่็้ฅญ ๐ The Egg is also Incorporated Well making almost Every Bite ๅฃๅฃๆ่. ๐

I also noticed there is an Additional Grain-Like Looking Crispy thing that is added. I think this is a Shallot Piece? ๐ค I cannot confirm, but this Component added an Ocassional Crispy Crunch and helped break up any Monotony you may have. ๐
The Addition of this Crispy Component is the one that Elevated this Above Regular SG Kopitiam Tze Char Level of Fried Rice. ๐
----------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM4.00 (S$1.30) doesn't feel Cheap for the Sambal ๐ถ️ but I feel the Quality is worth the Price imo. The Actual Amount of Sambal given for the Price feels Decent. At the Very Least this does not taste like a Cheap Low-Effort Sambal. ๐ถ️๐ There is Thought that has gone into its Design and there is Actual Effort in making it. ๐
At the Price of RM16.00 (S$4.90), lets face it, its obviously not worth to pay this much for Fried Rice no matter how you cut it. ๐ต๐ If we put the Price out of the Equation however and Dissect and Analyze the Dish as it is, I have to admit that this is actually a Very Decent Quality even Above Average Level of Fried Rice. ๐๐
Every Component Worked Well together competently and harmoniously with nothing really clashing. ๐
What I am impressed is the Addition of Extra Eggs ๐ฅ within even though they already have a Sunny Side Egg on top ๐ณ because they could have easily scrimped on this. The Fact they didn't made this a True Egg Fried Rice ่็้ฅญ. ๐ The other Component that impressed me are the Little Pieces of Crispy Shallot? Pieces ๐ in this that gave Every Bite an Extra Crispy Crunch which was the Deciding Factor that put this Fried Rice over the Level of SG Kopitiam Level of Fried Rice. ๐
My Personal Opinion of Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) himself. ๐ค
If you know Uncle Roger, his Whole Business is about Roasting People. ๐ฅ๐ค It was his Relentless Roasting of Jamie Oliver's treatment of Fried Rice that was what got him famous in the first place. ๐ค Now I'll admit his Initial Roast may be Funny at first, ๐ but it starts getting Stale, and even Disrespectful when he makes it his Only Routine. ๐ค
As I enjoy Cooking myself, I don't really blame Jamie (or Others like him) due to their Incomplete Knowledge or Misunderstanding of Asian Culinary Concepts. ๐ค Its really Unfair to laugh and shame them like this. ๐ซค Its like asking a Chinese Chef who is not Familiar with Western Techniques and Cooking Tools to try and prepare a Thanksgiving Roast Turkey ๐ฆ and laughing at him when he does it all wrong. ๐ซค
Why I don't like Uncle Roger (The Character) ๐ค
Now I'm also not sure if its just a Stage Act or not, but its also not a Secret that Uncle Roger himself also seems to have a Very Antagonizing Stance against Singapore ๐คฌ๐ธ๐ฌ and has been pretty Publicly Vocal about it. ๐ค
This brings me to the Actual Price of the Dish. ๐ค If you think about it, the Price of RM16.00 (S$4.90) he has set, is actually Very Close to the Price of an Average SG Kopitiam Fried Rice in Singapore. ๐ต๐ค I don't know if he purposely Priced it this way. Given his Somewhat Antagonistic Stance towards Singapore. ๐คฌ๐ธ๐ฌ I can't help but have this feeling that he is trying to use his Fried Rice to make a Statement:
"You See, Singaporeans? ๐คฌ๐ธ๐ฌ For the Price that you pay for your Average SG Fried Rice in your Singapore Kopitiam, I can make a Fried Rice that is Much Better Quality than yours!" ๐ต๐ธ๐ฌ
Hahaha dunno lah. ๐ Maybe I also ๆณๅคชๅค, but this was what I felt this Dish is trying to say to me as I ate it. ๐ Now I don't know Nigel Ng personally and I'm not sure of how he really feels towards Singapore or if its all just an Act, but this is just my Personal Opinion of his "Uncle Roger" Character. ๐ค
Why I also Respect Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) ๐ค
Ultimately, as much as I dislike Uncle Roger, I have to admit that Nigel Ng does walk the talk, ๐ or rather the Chef he hired knows what he/she is doing. ๐จ๐ณ๐ This is indeed a Very Decent Above SG Kopitiam Level of Fried Rice. ๐๐ Some of our Local Kopitiam Tze Char Fried Rice Standard are Truly Sad and Pathetically Low Effort compared to this and insultingly cost roughly the same. ๐
What I am most impressed about Uncle Roger (Nigel Ng) however is his Spirit of Entrepreneurship. ๐ He is able to make use of his Fame (Infamy) to create a Whole Cottage Industry selling his Merchandise, ๐ and Build a Business that actually provides Job Opportunities and a Livelihood for his Fellow Malaysians. ๐ฒ๐พ๐ Especially in Today's Challenging Economic Climate, this is something Very Admirable that I really have to respect him for ๐ despite how much I'm not a Fan of his "Uncle Roger" Persona. ๐
At the End of the Day, this is an Expensive Plate of Fried Rice that feels like it's targeted at Singaporeans. ๐๐ค๐ธ๐ฌ Because it's priced this high, I'm not sure if it's something that people will actually eat regularly or is it more of a "Tourist Attraction". ๐ค
That said, this is also Not just a "Riding on Fame" type of One Hit Wonder. ๐ค Whoever Uncle Roger hired to cook this does have Good Culinary Skills and it is a Well Designed and Well Executed Dish at its Basic Level. ๐๐ Even the Sambal is Decent ๐ถ️ and it's not just a anyhow Cheaply Made Low Effort Affair. ๐ The Initial Hype may have been long past, but I still observed quite a Healthy Amount of Customers even on a Monday. ๐

Despite it's High Price, I can still recommend to give it a Try. ๐ If you are a Singaporean, ๐ธ๐ฌ just treat the Price like something you'd pay in a Typical SG Kopitiam Tze Char Stall. ๐ต๐ค If you are a Malaysian however, ๐ฒ๐พ I feel you can skip this. ๐ค I'm sure there are other Fried Rice Places in Malaysia that are either the Same or Higher Level at a much more Reasonable Price Range. ๐ต๐
This Fried Rice is a "Fuiyoh!" ๐ in terms of Taste but a "Haiyaa!" ๐ in terms of Price.
So I'll invent a New Phrase for this Review: Fuiyaa!! ๐
Now that I've finally tried their KL Flagship Store in Pavilion, ๐ฒ๐พ I am now ready to review their JB Branch to compare in the Future. ๐ค Uncle Roger, I Approve of your Fried Rice. ๐ Hahaha! This is a "Fuiyaa" Score for me! ๐
Update: I have since visited their JB Branch in Midvalley Mall.
You can read the Review for it right here. ๐ FUIYOH! Its Uncle Roger
