About this Petaling Street Market 茨廠街

This Place is essentially the Chinatown of Kuala Lumpur. 🇲🇾 Although its commonly known as Petaling Street Market, I personally remember it more by its Cantonese Name "Qu Cheong Gai" over 20 Years ago. 😄
Now as I revisit this place 20 Years Later, alot has certainly changed. 🤔

Just like Singapore's Version of Chinatown, this place feels Very Touristy now. 😅 Especially the Front Street facing the Main Entrance which focuses more on Retail Shopping 🛍️ selling Very Touristy Gimmicky type of Souvenirs. 😅 When I was there, some parts of the Street were closed off and under Renovation. 🚧

Do note that Vehicles sometimes drive along the Same Roads that Pedestrians walk on, so do take care if you bring Children here. 🚶🚗

If you are a Singaporean, the Feel of this Petaling Street is really nothing new 😅 because it feels almost exactly like our Very Touristy Focused Singapore Chinatown. 🇸🇬 This Place is really meant more for Overseas Foreign Tourists. 😅

As you walk past the Front "Retail Street", 🛍️ the Back is where most of the Food Stalls and Eateries are located. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳 Again, nothing particularly special about this, I also find the Foods here mostly catering to Overseas Tourists. 🤔

Because this is More Touristy Place, Prices generally feel a Tad Higher compared to the Rest of KL
🤔 although the Prices are still Less Expensive compared to our Singapore's Chinatown. 😅

The Main Difference between Singapore's Chinatown and this Petaling Street is that I feel there are More Local Malaysian Chinese Foods
available 🇲🇾👍  compared to Singapore's Chinatown which has a Much More Heavier Emphasis on Foreign China Chinese type of Foods. 🇨🇳🤔

As I walked along the Food Street Section, I also noticed that alot of Food Vendors here mostly speak Cantonese. 🗣️ The Whole Street gives me a Very Cantonese Enclave sort of Feel. 😄

Booth Owners are Friendly and Polite, No Rowdy Behaviour. 👍 Overall feels Safe although of course, do take the usual precautions for your belongings especially when it starts getting Crowded.

Although Petaling Street itself has become Very Touristy just like our Singapore Chinatown, 😅 I discovered a "Penjaja Gallery Jalan Tun H.S Street" nearby that has a Much More Local Feel where the Locals actually gather. 🤔

This Street reminds me more of the Petaling Street Market that I remembered 20 years ago. 😄 So I highly recommend to walk over to this place to explore for a More Local Malaysian Feel instead. 🇲🇾♥️
