Who is DJ Yin 盈盈?
DJ Yin 盈盈 is a Very Adorable, Full of Bubbly Joy Chinese Malaysian DJ / YouTuber 🎵🎶🎥 that I follow to learn more about the Current Affairs of Malaysia. 🇲🇾 Her Content are structured in such a Way that are Educational, Humorous and Easy to Understand even for a Non-Malaysian like me. 😄
Unfortunately due to Funding and other Factors, her Youtube Channel has currently ceased, 😔 but her Past Videos are still well worth to watch if you would like to learn more about Malaysia from a Malaysian's Viewpoint. 🇲🇾👍
So when I found out that she actually also owns a F&B Cafe Business in KL, I thought I'd go suppoort her. 👍
She even has a Video dedicated to this Cafe and it was really Adorable to see the Behind-The-Scenes Work which she described so Vividly. 😄
Location of the Cafe itself
Hidden in a Street Alley that is adorably full of Artistic Street Graffiti, 👨🎨👩🎨 this place can be a Tad Hidden as mentioned by some Google Reviewers. But as long as you follow Google Maps, it shouldn't be too difficult. 👍 The Cafe itself is a Beautifully Refurbished Old Shophouse with 2 Levels. Its Air-Conditioned, Cool and Comfortable. 🌬️

Staffed by Mainly Younger Gen-Z? Folks who are Very Friendly and Welcoming. 😄 As you can see in the Video, this Cafe is actually quite Popular too, although its not Crowded until Full House type of Situation on a Weekday. 老板娘 DJ Yin herself wasn't around though. 😅

Ordering of Food is via QR Code although if you do that, interestingly you can only use Card Payment. 💳🤔 If you would prefer to pay by Cash, 💵 you will need to order directly at their Front Counter instead. I also requested for all the Dishes to be served up together and I'm impressed they were able to do so. 👍 It took a Total of 5 Mins for Everything to be Up.
🍹 Makachill (Cold) = RM16.00
As you can see, this is a Beautiful 2-Layer Cocktail. 🍹 Topped with a Small Dessicated Lemon Slice, 🍋 the Bottom Layer tastes like a rather Sweet Grapefruit that is a Tad Sourish and will Tingle on your Tongue. 😜 The Top Layer is a Surprisingly Rich and Robust Gao Gao Matcha. 🌱🍵
I'm not kidding about the Robustness of this Matcha. Its so Robust that this Layer is actually Gao Gao Bitter itself if u just sip on this without Mixing. 😜 The Amount of Matcha they used in this is actually Alot, not just for Show only. 😳
When Everything is Mixed Together, the Bitterness of the Matcha completely disappears and the Sweetness of the Grapefruit is also Noticeably Subdued. 👍
The Combined Mix of these 2 Flavours is a Refreshing Beverage that has a Robust Body Depth of Matcha 🍵 with a Hint of Grapefruit Sizzle 🍊 and Sweetness. Sweet but Not Overly Sweet.
Quite a Unique Complex Taste. Nice. 😋
🍰 Homemade Nonya Kuih = RM12.00
Comes in 3 Different Kuehs, these are apparently handmade by DJ 盈盈's Mom, 💁👵not some Factory Supplied Product. I'm not sure if they custom made the Mold that's needed to shape these, but they were Beautifully Done. 👍

🟪🍰 Purple Kueh
I feel this one is likely Handmade because the Petals on this look Too Delicate to just come out from a Mold. 🌷 🤔 One thing though I felt the Kueh Skin 出油 abit much. 🍯🤔 Bite Texture is Soft but not Soft until Melt in Mouth. What convinced me that this really is Handmade is the Tau Sah Filling within which is Not Overly Sweet and even has a Slight Gritty Texture. 😋

🟦🍰 Blue Kueh
I think there is an Actual Name for this Kueh. 🤔 There are actually 2 Slices of them. The Outer Cream is actually a Light Tasting Kaya that is Not Overly Coconuty and Not Overly Sweet. 👍 Again, this taste like its Homemade, not some Pre-Made Supermarket Product. The Beautiful Blue Colouring is likely achieved using Blue Pea Flower. 💠

The Main Body is a Glutinous Rice 糯米 🍚 with a Slight Saltish Taste and it's this Savoury Saltish Taste of this Glutinous Rice that I'm impressed with because it tasted like a Slightly Firmer Lor Mai Kai with Kaya which may sound Strange, 😅 but for some reason it worked for me because I thought both Sweet and Savoury 甜甜咸咸味道 worked quite well together. 👍
🟨🍰 Yellow Kueh
From the Look of this thing, this is likely made using a Generic Pineapple Shaped Mold. 🍍 The Skin used here is basically the same one used with their Purple Kueh but just dyed in a Different Yellow Food Colouring. 🤔

The Filling within was Mung Bean 🫘 which although I have no issues with, I was slightly disappointed because Mung Bean seemed like such a Safe and Predictable Choice. 😅 Because the Shape of this Kueh is a Pineapple, I thought it would be More Appropriate if they were to use Pineapple Jam instead. 🍍🍯 Hahaha and because they use Mung Bean instead, this made this taste Exactly like an "Ang Ku Kueh" but in a Pineapple Mold. 😅
🧀 Gula Melaka Cheesecake = RM15.00
Listed as One of their Signatures, this was a Small Slice that had a Delicious Aroma of Butter Cake when it was served up. 😋 I have made Cheesecakes before and the one here impressed me. 👍

For one thing, the Bottom Layer is not just made of Simple Crushed Digestive Biscuits and Butter. 🍪🧈 Its made of what tastes like Coconut Flakes 🥥 with a Touch of Gula Melaka. 🍯 The Gula Melaka itself is Not Overly Sweet and is actually More like a Subtle Tease. 🤔 Just this Base alone impressed me alot because this tells me that there are Some Thought that has gone into this, 👍 and its not just a Simple Basic Crushed Digestive Biscuits + Butter type of Base. Cleverly Done. 👍

The Cheese Part of the Cake also doesn't taste like Simple Plain Cream Cheese. 🧀 For one thing, it is Olive Greenish in Colour which I reckon is some sort of Matcha Colouring? 🌱🤔 Whatever Cream Cheese Brand they used for this doesn't taste cheap and I am even more impressed that they even go thru the Effort of adding Bits of Coconut Flakes 🥥 within to give it some Bite Texture. To top it off, it is evenly baked on the Top giving it a Beautiful Caramelized Finish. ♥️ Really Clever, I never thought that Coconut Flakes 🥥 can be added to Cream Cheese 🧀 like this for an Added Texture.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
Before you even read this Section, you need to know that this is a Modern Atas Level of Cafe and as such the Prices are not going to be Cheap. 💵🤔 If you are someone who is expecting a RM2.00 Cup of Coffee, then perhaps this Cafe is not for you. 🙅♂️ If you are still reading, do read on to see what I actually think of them.
At the Price of RM16.00 (S$5.00) for this Glass of Makachill Cocktail, 🍹 obviously this is not Cheap. But I appreciate how Beautifully this is made. What I am impressed with is how Robust Thick and Gao Gao the Amount of Matcha is used for the Top Layer. 🌱
It is really so Gao that if you were to just drink this Section without Mixing, the Matcha Layer actually tastes Bitter. 🌱😜 Thats how Gao it is. I like the Combined Mix which worked well to both reduce the Sweetness of the Grapefruit and remove the Bitterness of the Matcha to form into something that is very Refreshing. 🍹😋
For the Price of RM12.00 (S$3.70) for 3(4) Pieces of Kuehs, 🍰 that makes them about S$1.00 per Piece which I feel is a Reasonable Price to pay.
While the Skin isn't Super Soft Melt in Mouth Quality, and their Taste Quality aren't Mind Blowingly Amazing, I appreciate that the Kueh themselves are actually Handmade. 👍
The only thing that disappointed me was the Yellow Kueh 🟨🍰 which felt like they took a Very Safe and Predictable Choice. 😅 If it was me, I would have used Pineapple Filling 🍍🍯 instead but of course thats just my Opinion on this. 😅 That said though if you like Ang Ku Kueh, the Yellow Kueh is basically it.
At the Price of RM15.00 (S$4.60) for this Cheesecake 🧀🍰 was the one the impressed me the most.
Although its a Very Small Slice and not Cheap, I appreciate this Culinarily because I actually learnt a New Method of making Cheesecake that I have never experienced before. 🤔
This Whole Cheesecake looks Deceptively Simple, but if you have made Cheesecake before, you will appreciate the Subtle Touches and Flourishes that it distinguishes itself. ♥️ The way it is made tells me that this is not just a Regular Factory Product but that someone actually sat down and planned how to go about doing it. 🤔
Just nice, I had a little chit-chat with One of the Staff here, 👩🍳 and I kid you not, it was Fortuitous that Particular Staff was actually the Baker who made it! 😄 From my Conversations with her, I can verify that she knows what she's talking about as she could confidently tell me what are the Correct Procedures involved in making a Cheesecake like this. 👍
This further confirms that the Cakes are made in-house and not supplied from some Random Bakery elsewhere. 👩🍳👍 Of course I complimented her which she appreciated. Really Talented Young Lady, I enjoyed the Conversation I had with her. 😄 I'm sure she will go far in her Culinary/Baking Journey. 👩🍳 I'm so sorry I didn't catch her name though!
I'll be honest, I originally did not have much expectations when I visited this. 😅 I had thought that this is probably like a Side F&B Business by DJ Yin and it will be like those Typical Celebrity Opened type of Cafe where the Owner just dump money and sell Overpriced Factory Supplied Pastries. 💵😅
The Reality is very Different from what I imagined. 🤔 All of these Pastries are Handmade by them. You can feel that there is a Real Passion that is involved especially when I conversed with that Young Staff. 👩🍳👍 The Video by DJ Yin that I linked in the Video isn't just a Simple Promo Video, the Passion is Real. 👍 These are a Group of Young People that really have Passion in what they're doing. This itself is a Very Admirable Quality. 👍

At the Combined Price of RM47.30 (S$14.50) including Taxes on the Final Receipt for Everything isn't Cheap, but I'll be honest, it also isn't that Expensive thanks to Currency Conversion. 💵😅 I reckon a Cafe like this in Singapore is going to cost alot more. 😅 For me though I feel it is worth to pay this price to support DJ Yin 盈盈 herself because I have been a Supporter of her Work on Youtube. 🎥

If you are looking for a Nice Modern Cafe to chill on your KL Holiday, 🇲🇾 I can recommend this place to give it a try if you are ok with the Prices on their Menu. 💵 Its also located quite conveniently in Central KL Area, near to MRT Pasar Seni where you will likely be exploring too. 🚉 Hahaha this place was so Chill, I was actually chilling here while writing one of my KL Preview Posts! 📝😄 I'm not sure if she will ever read this, but I'd just like to thank DJ Yin's 盈盈 Hard Work for her 熒光筆 Hi!Lighter Current Affairs Youtube Channel, 🎥 the Legit Impressive Handmade Quality of the Dishes here, 🍰 and the Real Passion that I'm seeing at this place.
