Damascus is the Name of the Capital City of Syria 🇸🇾 If you are someone who is interested in Medieval History, you will know that its a Very Important Historical City, 🏙️ arguably the Oldest Capital City in the World. 🌍 (Source: Wikipedia)

This Restaurant that takes its name is a Big and Popular Middle Eastern F&B Franchise in KL. 🇲🇾
Its renovated to look like a Very Beautiful Middle Eastern Styled Arabian Palace. 🏰 As you step foot within, there is a Very Strong Floral 花香 and 马来风味 Perfume Aroma. 💐 Pleasant Smelling but can be abit Strong so you might want to take note of this if you are someone who is sensitive to Strong Smells. 🤔
The Whole Place is Brightly Lit and really Beautifully Renovated with Classic Middle Eastern Styled of Furnishings with even Water Features. ⛲ The Renovation is done in a Nice Mix of both Modern and Classic Traditional. 👍 Check out the Photos and Video to get a feel of what I'm trying to describe here.

Really Popular Place too. Even at 9.30am on a Monday Morning, 🌞 I noticed there are already quite a Few Customers within.
I would reckon that this place would likely be Full House on Weekends. 🤔 This is evident of the Queue Barriers that is set up at the Entrance. Of course if there are No Queues, feel free to just Walk In, Self Service Grab a Seat. 👍 No need to wait for any Front Entrance Staff to beckon you in.

The Staffs were Very Polite, Friendly and Welcoming. 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳 They were Dressed Well and Behaved Smartly. To order your food, press the Table Button for Service and Order Directly from them. They are able to speak some English although not particularly Fluent. It would be preferred if you are able to speak at least abit of Basic Malay. 👍
It took 11 Mins for the Foul Medames, 🍲 12 Mins for the Turkish Coffee ☕ and 14 Mins for the Beef Arabi Plate. 🐮 Everything was served up within 14 Mins.

☕ Turkish Coffee = RM11.90

This was served in a Very Beautiful and Very Traditional Looking Metal Coffee Set. ♥️ The Coffee is in a Mini Pot and the Cup is so Dainty Small! 🫖☕ Amount of Coffee in the Pot is about 2 Small Cups worth. I especially liked that the Sugar is served separately. 👍 Nothing special about the Sugar, its just Normal Grain Sugar.

The Coffee has a Noticeable Delicate Aroma of Saffron mixed with Ground Coffee. ☕ Saffron is a Very Atas and Very Expensive Ingredient 😳 and I never knew it can be used in a Black Coffee like this as I always thought its usually more for Tea instead. 🤔

The Coffee itself is Very Strong. ☕ This is not your Regular Kopitiam type of Kopi-O. No Kidding, this Coffee is Very Powerfully Strong. 🤯 Really Robust Gao Gao with a Very Deep Earthy Coffee Beans Presence. 🫘 The Saffron is also Prominent and comes in as an Aftertaste. No Siap Siap Taste, this is a Very Rich and Solid Coffee. ☕😋

🍲 Foul Moudamas = RM17.90

I am very happy to see this Dish here. 😄 Do you remember JB's Iconic Dish "Kacang Pool"? 🤔 This is the Original Middle Eastern Dish where it is based off from. 👍 That said, this is the Syrian Version, not Egyptian, and this Dish is Surprisingly Vegan. 🥬😳

There are 2 Flatbreads served with this Pre-Wrapped in Plastic. 🍞 They taste Room Temp unfortunately, not Hot to the Touch. 🤔 Nothing really special they tasted Plain and is exactly how you'd imagine them to taste. 🍞🤔 If you have eaten such Flatbreads before, you will know how this tastes like.

The Bowl of Beans is the Real Star of the Dish. 🫘🍲 It has what I would describe as a "Unique Unfamiliar Foreign Pungent sort of Aroma". 🤔 Not Unpleasant, just Pungent. Its also Oily with a Layer of what is probably Olive Oil. 🍯

The First Taste of it gave an Intensely Sourish Hit but it quickly passes. 😜 The Beans are Cold and Mushy in Texture 🫘 and the Aftertaste has that Familiar "A&W Meaty Coney Dog Zhup" Flavour that I mentioned when I described Kacang Pool. 😋 This is where I was very surprised it tasted like this because remember this Dish is supposed to be Vegan! 🥬😳 So I have no idea how they were able to replicate and achieve that "Meaty Sauce Taste". 🥩🤔

Because the Main Profile of this Bean Dip is Sourish, 😜 its really meant to eat with that Neutral Tasting Flatbread 🍞 which helped tremendously in reducing the Sourness. Really Powerful how Bread can act like a Neutral Carb Canvas like this. Its no wonder why Bread is such a Popular Carb for Ancient People in the Past. 🍞🤔

There is also interestingly a Plate of Veggies consisting of Cauliflower, Cucumber, Tomato, Cabbage, and Pickles that are all soaked in a Slightly Vinegary Slightly Less Sourish Clear Liquid. 🥬 Actually this tasted More Refreshing than Sour and I reckon it must be the Palette Cleanser of this Dish. 😋

🐮 Beef Arabi Plate (8 Pieces) = RM23.90

One of the Dishes that this Restaurant is really Famous for are their Sharwarma so I ordered this to give it a try. 👍
I really like the Cream on the side they serve with this. 😋 Very Light Tasting that almost tasted like a Mayo but its not as Jelak or Heavy Rich as Mayo. 😋 Very Clean Tasting, this was a Very Light Cream Sauce.

The Shawarma were Very Good. 👍 There is a Beautiful Mix of Beef and Sauce wrapped together in a Thin Bread. My only taste of Sharwarma is the Cheaper Pasar Malam Version and this is like a Completely Different Level. 😄

Unlike Pasar Malam type of Sharwarma where it is Obscenely Loaded with Processed Cheese, 🧀 the Cream here is Not Exactly Cheese. 🤔 While it delivers the Creaminess that you'd expect, it is Very Much Less Jelak Tasting because it also has a Slight Sourish Tinge to it. 🤔

Add to that the Juicy Beef Pieces, 🐮 the Whole Thing is like an Explosion of Meat Juices and Flavour 爆汁 in your Mouth. 🥩💥 The Beef Flavour is also Gao Gao Beefy. 🐮😋 Imagine tasting a Very Juicy Beefy Popiah is how I would describe eating this. If you enjoy Beef, you will probably like this. 👍 Doesn't taste too Foreign, I reckon this is a Delicious Taste that Most People will be able to Enjoy. 😋

The Fries were Normal Tasting. 🍟 They were Lightly Salted and tasted Decent when dipped into this Light "Mayo" Cream Sauce. 🍯

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM11.90 (S$3.70) for this Turkish Coffee, ☕ this puts all other so called "Gourmet Coffees" to shame. 😅 Hahaha I'm not a Coffee Connoisseur, but this is such a Gao Gao Robust Level of Coffee, I would consider this as Top Tier Elite Level. 🏆

Hahaha it was the Presence of Saffron that really threw me off because this is such an Atas Expensive Ingredient! 😅 According to Wikipedia, 2024 Saffron costs at least USD$5,000 per Kg! 💵😳 This is the World's Most Expensive Spice by Weight. 🌍💵 To see it being used in a Coffee like this is Insane. 🤯 My Goodness! This is how I imagine Truly Wealthy People drink their Coffee everyday. ☕😅

At the Price of RM17.90 (S$5.50) for this Foul Moudamas 🍲 was Affordable for what it is. I was already Impressed with how Kacang Pool was designed and to be able to taste the Original Middle Eastern Dish where it took its Inspiration from was a Real Privilege. ♥️

This was a Really Well Designed Dish and the Fact that its Vegan impressed me even more. 🥬🤯 Because of that Familiar "A&W Coney Dog Tasting" Zhup, at No Point during eating this did I ever feel this was Overtly Vegan. 😳

Because this Dish probably also has Ancient Origins, it made me even more Impressed how Culinarily Saavy, Ancient People were in Crafting this Masterpiece that tasted like Meat 🥩 but is Actually Vegan. 🥬 Amazing.

At the Price of RM23.90 (S$7.40) for this 🐮 Beef Sharwarma was not Cheap, but I still feel is worth the Money. 👍 When compared to a Pasar Malam Level of Sharwarma, the Comparison is like Heaven and Earth 一个天, 一个地. 😅
While you can easily get Jelak by the Cheapo Tasting Overly Jelak Pasar Malam Version that spams their Sharwarma with Too Much Processed Nacho Cheese Sauce, 😅 there is None of that Nonsense here. 🙅‍♂️

I love how Every Ingredient in this version actually makes sense and worked with each other to elevate the Whole Dish together.👍 As I mentioned in the Main Review, I especially love the Explosion of Juices and Flavour 爆汁 🥩💥 in my Mouth as I ate this and Not Once did I ever felt Jelak at all. 😋 If you want to eat a Very Good Sharwarma, this is it. No Wonder this Restoran is famous for it. 👍

Culinarily, I have no issues with every dish that I ordered. 👍 Especially for someone like me who very rarely eat Middle Eastern Styled Cuisine, I am thoroughly impressed by all of them. ♥️
I appreciate how well designed they were, how Masterful they utilized the Ingredients they have to elevate the Entire Dish on a Whole. 👍 Eating this also felt like eating a Piece of Ancient History. 😅 As you eat this, you can really feel how Culinarily Saavy Ancient People must be when they crafted them. Amazing. ♥️

With the Amount of Effort in the Renovations of this Beautiful and Lavish Restoran, 😳 how Polite and Friendly the Staffs behaved, 😄 and at a Total Combined Price of RM62.30 (S$19.20) including Service Taxes is a Really Decent Affordable Price for this Level of Culinary Quality, I have no issues giving this Place my Highest Top Score.

Because this Restoran (especially this Bukit Bintang Branch) is Extremely Popular, I would highly recommend to come preferably during Weekdays Off-Peak Hours in order to avoid any Long Queues. 👍
Damascus indeed lives up to its Fame. 👍 Do not miss out on this Middle Eastern Culinary Gem if you are here in KL. Highly Recommended! 😄
