This was an Old-School Western Food Stall that I came across in my Social Media Feeds ๐ฅ that has apparently has been around for about 30 years. ๐ค Based on the Google Reviews of this Place, alot of them also mentioned having Nostalgic Memories ไปๅฐๅๅฐๅคง with this Place. ♥️ I love such old places so I gave this a go.
The Actual Place is actually a Hawker Centre Food Stall located in this "Uptown Hawker Centre" in Damansara. ๐ฝ️๐ค Just like its Name suggests, it is literally located at a Corner of this Hawker Centre. Most of the Hawker Centre is Closed when I was there on a Tuesday Evening at around 5.00pm and there weren't any Customers around. ๐ค The Few Customers that I do see mostly order this as Takeaway. ๐️๐ค

The Main Cook is a Middle Aged Chinese Man with 2 Bangladeshi Helpers. ๐จ๐ณ While the 2 Helpers were Very Friendly and Jovial, the Main Cook had a Sian Sian Very Tired Look about him. ๐ค He was Polite, but not the Smiling Type of Friendly. ๐ค

The Chilli Sauce they have is a Very Typical Bottle Type of Sweet Chilli not unlike KFC Type of Chilli. ๐ถ️ Nothing Special about this.
Anyway it took 7 Mins for the Dish to be served up as I sat there observing him grilling this fresh. ๐ค
๐ Grill Pepper Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce = RM19.00
Presentation of this Dish has a very 1990s Hawker Centre Western Food type of Plating amusingly served with an Old School Looking Plate too. ๐ฝ️๐
There is a Copious Amount of Black Pepper Sauce slathered on the Chicken Chop very Hawker Centre/Kopitiam Style. ๐ฏ๐
Alot of Google Reviews and even some Food Blogs describe this Chicken Chop like its the Biggest Chicken Chop in the World. ๐๐ณ In Reality however, its just about an Average Regular Palm Sized. ✋๐ Its a Very Standard Sized Butterflied Thigh + Drummy Combo. ๐

๐ Quality of the Chicken Chop
What I am impressed is the Black Pepper Sauce. ๐ฏ It has a Very Gao Gao Robust Black Pepper Presence with a Slightly Elevated Lingering Spicy Heat. ๐ถ️ Noticeably Spicier than a Regular Black Pepper Sauce that you'd expect. Not Overly Sweet, this was a Decent Sauce. ๐
Pushing back the Sauce, I can see the Chicken Chop is grilled with some Standard, ๐ฅ๐ the Skin are properly grilled with no Chao Tah. ๐ The Meat is Tender and Juicy and not at all Dry, but that's because it is smothered with that Black Pepper Sauce. ๐๐ฏ
I agree with some Google Reviewers that this Chicken Chop can be Very Oily. ๐ค This is because as I observed him Grilling this, there wasn't enough time to rest to drip off any Excess Oil before the Black Pepper Sauce was lum all over it. ๐๐ฏ While this seals and locks in all the Juices, this also locks in all the Oil. ๐ฏ๐ค Not even the Robust Flavour of this Black Pepper Sauce is able to help cover up this Oiliness. ๐ค
The Meat Taste is Decent Acceptable, never Overly Chickeny. ๐ Every Bite of this Chicken Chop has a Good Amount of Black Peppery Goodness from the Sauce but the Presence of Oil is also something that never goes away. ๐ฏ๐ค Very ๆฒน่
ป, perhaps one of the Oiliest Grilled Chicken Chop that I've eaten. ๐ค

Quality of the Rest of the Side Dishes
Nothing Special about the Shoestring Fries. ๐ Lightly Salted, these very obviously taste like its from some Frozen Supermarket Package, not Homemade cut from an Actual Potato. ๐ฅ๐ค
In the Above Photo, you can even see him taking a Bag of this out of the Fridge. Unremarkable.
The Sunny Egg ๐ณ looked Adorably Small and unfortunately, the Yolk is 100% Completely Cooked thru, ๐ค not the Runny Ooey Gooey Type.
Again as you can see in the Above Photo, the Eggs are all Already Pre-Made sitting on the Plate and not Freshly Fried. ๐ค Such a Pity.
The Coleslaw ๐ฅฌ doesn't taste Homemade. Tasted like a Very Generic Supplier supplied type of Coleslaw. ๐ค Sweetish, not unlike the type used by KFC.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
I'll be very honest, at the price of RM19.00 (S$5.80) for this Plate of Grilled Chicken Chop isn't Very Cheap at all even for a Singaporean. ๐ค Even some Google Reviewers complained about the High Price ๐ต with many lamenting how high the Price have risen since their Teenage Years. ๐ค
I personally found it not worth the money because amusingly there are actually other Western Food Stalls in this Same Hawker Centre that offer a More Affordable Price of RM15.90 for a Similar Dish as you can see. ๐ค
Although to be fair I did not review those. Still is it really worth to pay an extra RM3.10 for this? ๐ค
Culinarily, the Dish did not impress me. ๐ค It wasn't as Gigantic Huge as many Reviewers claim it to be, and the Quality of the Grilled Chicken is something that anyone with abit of Culinary Knowledge can make at home. ๐๐ค None of the Side Dishes on offer were Homemade and everything tasted like it was Supermarket Supplied. ๐ค Even the Sunny Egg wasn't Freshly Fried with a 100% Cooked Hard Yolk. ๐ณ This is a Very Minimal Effort kind of Chicken Chop.
The Only Thing that is worth of Value is really the Black Pepper Sauce ๐ฏ๐ค which is Decent. But even so it seems to be the Only Thing that the Entire Dish is too reliant on. ๐ค
The Chicken Chop is probably not Marinated or Salted and relies 100% on the Sauce for its Taste. ๐ฏ๐ค Slathering the Entire Chicken Chop like this while visually impressive, is also a Culinary Technique to cover up any Shortcomings that the Chicken Chop may have and amusingly doing it this way also highlighted its Biggest Flaw. ๐๐
Because as Good as the Sauce was, it couldn't cover the Overly Greasiness and Oiliness ๆฒน่
ป that I tasted with Every Bite. ๐
Despite a 30 Years of History, I'm sorry to say that I don't feel it is worth to specifically come to KL just to eat this. ๐ค Its a Classic Hawker Centre / Kopitiam Styled Western Food Chicken Chop and it is what it is. ๐ค Its not even the most Affordable in this Hawker Centre as I mentioned. ๐ต๐ค
I do apologize if you are someone who has grown up with this Food Stall ไปๅฐๅๅฐๅคง as I see from some of the Nostalgic-Laced Comments of some of the Google Reviewers. ๐ It is not the intent of this Review to wreck any Sentimental Feelings you may have for this Place. ๐
Don't let my Score deter you because this is just my Personal Opinion. ๐ค If you are craving for some Western-Styled Chicken Chop ๐ while you're in the Damansara Area, feel free to swing by this Uptown Hawker Centre to give this a try and form your own opinion. ๐๐ค Ultimately, its your own taste that really matters.
