I think this may be the Next Most Famous Eatery for Folks who are Familiar with Taman Stulang Laut.
About this Stulang Walk Mini Hawker Centre
The Actual Eatery is located in a Mini Hawker Centre called "Stulang Walk". It has undergone a Very Lengthy Renovation which had recently just been Completed. This Mini Hawker Centre itself has 5 Eateries located in a "Hut".

I say this is a "Hawker Centre" but from what I see, its not Free Seating everywhere as Every Eatery seems to have their Own Allocated Reserved Seating Area. So do take note of this and don't bring Food from 1 Eatery to sit at another Eatery's Area. At least that's what I observed from the Diners eating here.
I've tried my best to take photos of Every Stalls available when I was there. ๐ท This may be the Most Comprehensive Up-To-Date Photo Collection of ALL the Food Stalls in this Mini Hawker Centre available online so far. ๐

Details about Foon Yew Laksa Eatery itself
The Eatery itself is actually a YTF Place. The Incredible Queue that you see in the Photo and Video was taken at 9.03am on a Sunday Morning, which is a Mere 3 Mins after they Open Shop! Among the 5 Food Stalls in this Mini Hawker Centre, this is the Only One with the Most Customers.
As I did not spot many SG Cars in the Car Park, I reckon most of these Customers are actually Locals. Impressive. Despite how long the Queue looked, it actually only took 4 Mins for me to reach the Ingredients Picking Section.
There is a Delicious Appetizing Aroma of Laksa in the Air. The Whole Place has a Very Local Feel. There are some Ceiling Fans installed making it feel more Airy.
Staffs are Friendly, Polite and Soft Spoken, especially the 2 Young Chinese Lads manning the Ingredients section who behaved Very Politely and even Smile at Customers. I reckon they are the Owners of the Stall. The Rest of their Support Staffs were More Quiet and Reserved.

Because this Place can feel Intimidating for First-Time Visitors, here is how to go about Ordering your Food:
1) Secure a Seat if you can and take note of Table Number. This is Very Important.
2) Join in the Queue and grab a bowl to pick Items from the List of Ingredients just like a Yong Tau Foo Stall.
3) When You're Ready, Pass the Bowl to the Staff and left them know how you want it to be cooked. (Dry, Soup, any Carbs). More importantly, you need to tell him which Table Number you are at.
This is where you will also Order any Drinks. They don't have any Hot Drinks like Kopi or Tea however, only Processed Sugary Stuffs. The Only Zero Sugar Drink they have is Mineral Water apparently.
4) Once Done, go back to your Seat and patiently wait for your Food where you will also pay once its served up.
The Queue to take Ingredients is actually Quite Short at only 4 Mins. It was the Wait for Dish to serve up that took Longer at about 17 Mins. A Tad Long but still Acceptable considering the Elevated Level of Customers when I was there.
Here's a Closer Look at ALL the Available Ingredients when I was there.

Foon Yew Laksa Yong Tau Foo
(Laksa, No Noodles, 1 Fried Beancurd Skin, 6 Random Items, + Taugeh + Sihum) = RM16.00
And now we come to the Main Event!
Please bear with me as I slowly describe Each Component that I took.

Quality of the Sambal Condiment
Every Dining Table has a Small Pot of this. Intensely Salty with an Elevated Spiciness that doesnt bite but linger long. For some Reason, I felt this is like the Type of Sambal that you'd eat Fishball with. Not Bad Decent if a Very Standard and Not Overly Complex Level of Sambal.
Quality of the Laksa Broth
You can also choose a Clear Broth Soup for your YTF but of course I ordered their Laksa Broth to try because its literally in the Eatery's Name itself.
Fragrantly Appetizing Aroma, this was Watery with a Slight Oily ๅฃๆ Texture. There is No Grittiness and the Coconut Milk Lemakness is Prominent and Gao Gao yet it is also Not Too Lemak.
I thought this had a Decent Nice Balanced Mix of Savory and Lemakness that Doesn't Clash. Saltish. Mildly Spicy with a Gentle Heat. This is a Decent Laksa Broth if you prefer Classic Lemak Lemak Style. Very Decent Tasting, I can understand why this is Popular.
Quality of the Sihum (Blood Cockles)
7 Pieces (About 1 Tablespoon) given for the Price. Small but not Too Small and Nicely Fleshy and Juicy that deliverys a Solid Sihum Raw Shot. Nice.
Quality of the Fishcake
Firmish Bouncy with a Nice Saltiness and No Fishiness. I say it's Firmish, but it's not as Firm Bouncy as others I've eaten. Nice Firmish Tender Texture.
Quality of the Soft Tofu
Comes with abit of that Slight Firmish Bouncy Fishcake, the Tofu itself is Creamy Soft Melt in Mouth Quality that doesn't taste Too Raw Tofu-Ness if it makes sense. This is Nice.
Quality of the Fried Tofu
Firmer Version of the Soft Tofu with a Decent Good Bite, again Not Overly Strong in Raw Tofu-Ness.
Quality of the Triangle Tofu
No Idea what to name this. This was Firmish in Texture, and Filling within was a mix of Soft Tofu and Some Meat that I'm guessing is Chicken because One of the Sign in the Stall mentioned No Pork. A Tad Chickeny but still ok.
Quality of the Bittergourd
Not Too Bitter, this was Soft Tender to the Bite. It has some of that Fishcake attached to it. Not Bad Tasting.
Quality of the Brinjal
This is attached to their firmer Fried Fishcake resulting in a Mix of Both Creamy Soft Brinjal and a Firmer Fishcake. This was a Nice Contrast of Textures.
Quality of the Fried Beancurd Skin
Not like those that has been Soaked until Super Soft Type, it still has a Slight Firmer Bite. Decent Tasting and Not Too Oily.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Total Combined Price of RM16.00 (S$5.00) for a 6 Items + 1 Fried Beancurd Skin + Taugeh + Sihum Laksa YTF was a Reasonable Price for what this was.
The Soul of the Dish is Definitely the Laksa Broth. I liked how Balanced it was both Savoury Rich and Lemak but also Not Too Lemak and Also Not Too Light. In fact this Laksa Broth was So Decent that I really wanted to drink this dry and I had to refrain myself.
All of the Ingredients I picked tasted Acceptably Fresh. I liked their Boiled Fishcake the Most. It was Zero Fishy, Not Too Firmish with a Light Tender Bounce. Overall I have no issues with this Place. From the 2 Friendly Owners who actually Smile at Customers, to the Decent Tasting Dish, I can totally understand why this Place is Popular.
If fact, these 2 Friendly Smiling Young Lads are the Reason why I have no issues giving this Place my Highest Top Score. It was Refreshing to see such Friendly and Humble Owners even when they are Famous and Popular. Alot of Eateries can learn alot from them. I especially like that its Not Touristy at all despite how Famous it is, and is a Place that Even Locals also Visit as you can see.
Having said that, because this Place is Popular, I would recommend to visit this During Off-Peak Weekdays instead of Weekends if you can help it. Even if you can only visit during Weekends, at least come near to their Opening Hours. I came here at 9.03am, 3 Mins after their Opening and it was still Bearable Queue and Wait although I cannot confirm how much Longer the Queue will be in the Later Peak Hours.
For Long-Time Fans of Foon Yew Laksa, Rejoice! They are Finally Open after their Long Hiatus!
After personally visiting them myself, I totally understand why this Place is so Popular now.

Hi Ryan, I long time didn't eat this laksa & YTF, so far 1 of the best in town. Weekend if go late abit, then need to queue. Anything need to queue I will pass, hahaha....I got patience in other stuff but no patience to queue for food. If need to queue, by the time my turn I got no appetite liaw. Hahaha...
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I agree. Among Laksa/Curry Mee I've eaten in JB so far, this one is probably consider my Top 5 ๐. Really Friendly and Humble Young Owners that made the Dining Experience much better too. ๐ My Favourite so far is still ็พๅณ้ฆ้ขๅฎถ at Taman Perling, ๐ although thats more a Curry Mee than Laksa but omg its so Thick, Rich and Gao Gao! ❤️
DeleteSame here, I have no Patience to queue for Food. ๐ 15mins to Max 30mins is the Limit for me only. No Food, No Matter how good it is, is never worth more than a 30mins queue tbh. ๐
