JB Trip Preview - Pasir Gudang

Hey Everyone,
Apologies for the Late Post! ๐Ÿ˜…  Today's JB Trip brings me to a Brand New Location: Pasir Gudang

Even if you've never been to JB, I reckon Most Singaporeans would still be familiar with this Suburb.
๐Ÿค” Especially for Folks living in Punggol who have seen Fiery Blazes from it lighting up the Night Sky ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ”ฅ with the latest incident as recent as October 2025. (Image and Source: The Straits Times)

Pasir Gudang is thus jokingly also known as "Mordor".
๐ŸŒ‹๐Ÿ˜… I mean C'mon. Does this not look like a Scene from The Lord of the Rings? ๐Ÿ˜… This is probably as Close as you can get to seeing a Real Life "Mount Doom in Mordor". ๐ŸŒ‹๐Ÿ˜…

"Ash nazg durbatulรปk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulรปk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul"

(One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the Darkness bind them.) ๐Ÿ’
๐Ÿ˜…

Hahaha Jokes aside, ๐Ÿ˜… according to Wikipedia, this is a Mainly Industrial Neighbourhood on the Eastern Side of Johor Bahru that is focused on Shipbuilding, ๐Ÿšข Petrochemicals ⛽ and other Heavy Industries. ๐Ÿญ (Source: WikipediaBasically, Pasir Gudang is like the "Jurong" of Johor Bahru I guess? ๐Ÿค” Heck I don't even know if Pasir Gudang even counts as part of Johor Bahru anymore. ๐Ÿค” What do you think?

Interestingly, Pasir Gudang apparently holds an Annual World Kite Festival. ๐Ÿช The Event was held this year from 4-8 Feb 2026. Really interesting, I didn't even know there was such a thing. ๐Ÿช๐Ÿค” I hope to catch this event next year. ๐Ÿ˜„ More Information available at: https://pasirgudangwkf.com/

Perhaps because it's more known as a Heavy Industrial Area, ๐Ÿญ Pasir Gudang is the One Suburb in Johor Bahru that is both Paradoxically Well Known to Singaporeans but also a Very Seldom Visited Uncharted Territory as I don't see many Food Blogs or Food Reviewers ever bother to explore it much. ๐Ÿค”

Pasir Gudang may be an Industrial Neighbourhood, but it also has Modern Amenities like this Lotus Eco Tropics Area ๐Ÿ›️๐Ÿฌ with Various Eateries around too as you can see. So it is not as Ulu as you would think. ๐Ÿค”

Then again, ่ฏด Pasir Gudang Ulu, ๅฎƒๅˆไธ Ulu. ่ฏด Pasir Gudang ไธ Ulu, ๅฎƒๆ„Ÿ่ง‰ๅˆๆœ‰็‚น Ulu. ๐Ÿ˜… Hahaha especially the Further East you travel towards the Masai Area? ๐Ÿš— I found an Adorable Authentic Malay Kampung called "Kampung Pasir Putih".

Exploring here feels like I've stepped into the True Rural Countryside of Malaysia. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ❤️ It has such a Different Vibe compared to Downtown Johor Bahru, that I don't feel I'm in JB anymore. ๐Ÿ˜… This Area felt so Rural, that I was half expecting to see Cows ๐Ÿฎ or Goats ๐Ÿ while exploring. ๐Ÿ˜… Really a Rare Glimpse of Simple Kampung Life where Kids do Wheelies with their Bikes, and Motorcycle Helmets seems like an Afterthought for alot of People. ๐Ÿ›ต๐Ÿ˜…

Alright, here are some Highlights of the Trip.
Today seems to have a More Nautical Theme. ⚓๐Ÿค”

First up is 321 Cafe located in Senibong Cove (not quite Pasir Gudang) that is Highly Recommended by Amelia. ๐Ÿ‘ Hahaha probably the Most Generic NPC Name ever given for a Cafe, ๐Ÿ˜… but the Location itself is in a Beautiful Waterfront littered with Atas Private Yachts. ⛵๐Ÿ›ฅ️ This place is not unlike our Singapore's Atas Keppel Harbourfront area.

Even more interesting, for such an Atas Up-Market Location, the Prices of the Foods are actually Very Reasonable. ๐Ÿ‘ Kopi-O RM2.90 (S$1.00), Nasi Lemak with a Big Fat Drummy RM11.00 (S$3.60) and their Highly Raved Popiah RM4.00/Roll (S$1.30). ๐Ÿ‘ This place is not just ๅฅฝ็œ‹ไธๅฅฝๅƒ. The Popiah was OK for me, but its the Nasi Lemak that got my notice. Oh this is Very Good Indeed. ๐Ÿ˜‹

Being able to affordably dine in such an Exclusive Location ⛵๐Ÿ›ฅ️ overlooking a Beautiful Waterfront and Decent Service, ๐Ÿ˜„ I really wanted to give my Top Score for this place ... but it just misses the mark for me due to a reason of which I will elaborate more in the Future. ๐Ÿค” Still a Recommended from me. Totally understand why Amelia recommended this. This was a Good One thanks! ๐Ÿ˜„

Venturing Eastwards into Kampung Pasir Putih, this is Kedai Makan Rahmat, also known as Rahmat Siakap Goreng. ๐Ÿ˜‹ Kampung Kelong Style Seafood Restoran, this was hidden deep inside the Kampung. Again keeping with the Nautical Theme, you are enjoying Seafood facing a Seashore ⛱️ with a Cooling Seabreeze ๆตท้ฃŽ on your face. ๐ŸŒŠ

Why I consider this a Highlight is a Culinary Reason. This is perhaps the First Time I've eaten a Fish that is Not only Not Descaled, but also Not De-Gilled. ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ˜ณ If you cook Fish, these 2 are the Most Fundamental Steps you need to do in order to clean and prep a Fish for cooking. I've always wondered if someone out there will skip this part and today I've got my answer. ๐Ÿ˜… What an Unusual Way to process a Fish! ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿ˜…

How does it taste like? Stay tuned for my Future Review to find out! ๐Ÿ˜„ Btw this Whole Entire Set here costs RM70.00 (S$23.00) which looks Expensive, but you are getting a Big Fat Chonker of a Fish ๐ŸŸ with 7 Prawns ๐Ÿฆ and 2 Side Dishes ๐Ÿฅฌ + Drinks so I still consider this as pretty reasonably priced.

And of course a Couple of More Places I visited and a Sneak Peak of the Other Dishes I ate! ๐Ÿ˜„
Below are the Complete List of Eateries I visited if you are interested. ๐Ÿ‘

As always: Queue? What Queue?

  1. Hi Ryan, wah finally you tour PG. Hahaha...The kite festival have to wait till next year February lor. Very nice cos can see kites from 56 countries participants and also led kites at night. I have not eaten at any restaurant in PG except went once to Soon Hai Seafood at Tanjung Puteri PG. Need pass Tanjung Putei golf resort then go thru oil palm plantation, road condition very bad. Restaurant like kelong style and can see Pulau Ubin. Famous for crab dishes.

I actually like to eat at Senibong Cove, nice view and also got nice food. Best place for morning walk, then breakfast at 321 cafe. Sipping kopi and enjoy the view. My other favourite is the Italian restaurant Roberto at other end of 321. Roberto's wife is Msian well known actress/model Kavita Sidhu. She is really tall and beautiful. They also have outlet in KL.
Spanish food also ok but their buffet lunch I ate until coma(slept) for 14 hours. Hahahaha...

    1. nice. i'll take note of this Roberto thanks. ๐Ÿ‘ Very interesting place this Senibong Cove, seems to be like a F&B + Retail Street. ๐Ÿ˜„ Most of the Shops were closed in the Morning though, only 321 cafe was the only one that opened. I reckon it should be more happening in the Evenings with a Sunset View. ๐Ÿ˜ I certainly will be re-visiting in the future.

  3. 321 actually more like old school kopitiam, open 7.30am so after morning walk just nice for a cup of coffee. Bubur cha cha on certain day only. Other restaurant open after 11am, evening happy hours very happening especially " The Bierhaus" most of the time full house. Roberto's got 2 course or 3 course set lunch below RM60. Mr Biryani also very nice, reasonable price too. I think they are from Spore Mr Biryani.

The Japanese Tepanyaki at Senibong closed already, but their HQ at Iskandar Puteri still operating. Their menu very nice and not over price. The lot now took over by Maslee supermarket.

Other side of Senibong also have several seafood restaurant facing the sea front. Senibong bay, Restaurant Bakar ikan bakar, Senibong selera, nasi lemak, orang asli seafood, etc... this part more like kampong style and it's facing Sembawang.

By the way if you haven't drop by Basilico Italian Restaurant at Austin Height , their braised angus beef cheek paired with truffle mashed potatoes & grilled vege very tasty and melt in the mouth. Better make reservation online cos usually fullhouse especially evening.

But stores mostly open late afternoon or near evening so don't go too early. Kites competition start after 3pm.
