When people discuss about Famous Eateries in Stulang Laut, THIS place will definitely come up. 🤔 Very Highly Regarded and Well Discussed in Food Blogs so much so, that it feels like the name Woon Kiang is practically Synonymous with Stulang Laut itself. 😅
What this Place is, is basically a Kway Teow Kia Eatery that only opens in the Evenings. 🌆 Kway Teow Kia itself is a Classic Signature Dish of Johor Bahru so you can imagine how Famous you must be to be an Eatery that is actually Well-Known for it. 🤔

Despite its Near Legendary Status, the Actual Place is not a High-End Restoran, but rather an Old Looking Eatery with a Very Weathered Signboard lighted up in a Very Classic 1970s-1980s Style. 😄
Like Most Dedicated KTK Eateries, the Main Cooking Station is right at the Entrance where you also order, with a Large Indoor (Air-Conditioned) Dining Area, although the Air-Con wasn't Cold 🌬️ when I came during their Opening Time at 5.00pm on a Saturday Night. Even though there were No Big Crowds or Long Queues at their Opening Hour of 5.00pm on a Saturday Night, I noticed Business was still pretty Brisk with Customers streaming in and out as I ate. 🤔
Simple, No Drama, I Learnt my Lesson LOL 😅
Longtime Readers of this Food Blog is also probably very familiar with my "Misadventures" with JB Kway Teow Kia so I won't elaborate further. 😅 When I reached the Front Ordering Counter, I noticed they already have a Price List clearly stating the Prices of Each and Every Individual Item. 🤔 From Past Experience with other KTK Eateries, I've learnt my lesson to never order my usual "一个人吃, 全部料掺掺不要猪皮, 给我一碗 Kway 谢谢" 😅 Instead, I just chose 3 Ingredients with 1 Bowl of Kway. Simple and No Drama. LOL. 😅

I don't know how the Actual Pricing is Calculated 🤨
What I found interesting was that, despite the ingredients I chose below:
🐷 Big Intestine = RM9.00
🐷 Small Intestine = RM9.00
🐷 Pork Belly = RM9.00
🍜 1 Bowl of Kway = Don't know
I ended up paying RM14.50 for my Final Bill instead of over RM27.00 like what I expected to pay which was written on their Price List. 🤔 I'm certainly not complaining that I'm paying a Lower Price obviously, 😅 but I don't know how they are exactly calculated. Maybe they have a Different Calculation based on Number of People and that Price List is just a Guideline? 🤔

The Staffs are mostly Myanmar Folks who are Polite and Mostly Keep to Themselves. The Staff at the Cooking Station where you order is also a Myanmar Chap and while he wasn't the Very Friendly All Smiles type, I appreciate that he wasn't Impatient or gave any 死人脸 when I took some time to look thru the Menu and took Photos of it. 📷
Although to be fair, it wasn't busy and I was the only person in the Line at that time. 🤔 That said, I would recommend to be prepared for what you want so you can order more efficiently just in case there is Bigger Crowd if you come. It took only 1 Min for Everything to be Served up.
🌶️ Quality of the Chilli Condiment
They only have 1 Type of Chilli here and it is Extremely Garlicky 🧄 with a Very Strong and Earthy Profile that even has a Slight 苦味 to it. 🤔 Mildly Spicy that doesn't Bite but this Extreme Garlicness is rather Unusual for a KTK Eatery. 🤔
Don't get me Wrong, I'm usually Very Impressed with a Strong Robust Earthy Profile for a Chilli, but for some reason, I thought this Chilli was Overly Earthy if it makes any sense? 🤔 First time tastes such an Overly Earthy Chilli with a 苦味. Not saying that I hate this, but it certainly is Very Unusual for me. 🤔
Other than 1 Bowl of Kway, The Main KTK Meat Platter consists of:
🐷 12 Small Cut Pieces of Pork Belly
🐷 10 Small Cuts of Small Intestines
🐷 6 Larger Cuts of Big Intestines

🍲 Quality of the KTK Soup Broth
Interestingly for some reason, I thought this KTK Broth tasted like a Chicken Soup. 🐔 Appearance looks like a Typical Braised KTK Lor Zhup type, but taste is really like a Chicken Soup. 🐔🤔
Not Overly Salty, there is Nothing Herbal that I've tasted. This tastes more like Chicken Bones are used Extensively to Boil into it. Really Unusual Soup for a KTK, doesn't taste like how you'd expect a JB KTK Soup to taste like. 🤔
🍜 Quality of the Kway
JB KTK Kway is Unique because it uses Thin Type of Kuay Teow. The Amount of Kway feels reasonable for the Price. Compared to San Lou KTK that I reviewed previously, I felt this one seems to have a More Melt in Mouth Quality that Breaks Apart and "Dissolve" faster.in your Mouth. Nice. 😋

🐷 Quality of the Pork Belly
Compared to San Lou KTK, I feel the Pork Belly here has a Noticeable Softer Bite Texture that is Fattier and Creamier. 😋 San Lou's Version was Meatier while this one was Softer and Creamier. Both are Equally Good, its just what type you prefer only.
🐷 Quality of the Small Intestine
Smoother and Slightly Larger Cuts compared to San Lou KTK, I felt this has a More Chewy Bite Texture although it has a Slightly Stronger Pigginess Intestiney Taste to it too. 🐷🤔 Not Overly Overpowering but noticeably Stronger than San Lou KTK. If you are someone who is ok with a Stronger Piggy Taste, you might enjoy this more.
🐷 Quality of the Large Intestine
Appearance Wise, this has a Noticeable Veiny Appearance compared to Small Intestine's Smooth Look. The Main Thing I got from this is that this tastes BITTER! 😳 And its not even like a Slight Bitterness.
No Joke, this Bitterness is So Strong, I'd compare it to crushing a Medicine Pill between your Teeth type of Bitter. 😳💊 Not only that, this Bitterness actually Lingers Long and Unpleasantly in your Mouth after eating it. 😣 I've eaten Plenty of Large Intestines before and never encountered such Bitterness. 😳 Now that I think of it, I wonder if this is the 大肠 that I ordered, or did they give me 大肠头?
So Many Questions flood my Mind as I ate this. Did they not wash this properly? 🤔 Or is this Level of Bitterness considered normal for this Particular type of 大肠? 🤔 Personally I feel that its more the Latter because this Bitterness Level is really so Unique that I feel its the Nature of the Meat itself. 🤔 This is also the 1st time i'm seeing such a Veiny Large Intestine. Perhaps this is why this Particular Cut is not offered in other KTK Eateries? 🤔
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Total Combined Price and Final Bill of RM14.50 (S$4.50) although is Slightly More Expensive than San Lou KTK, I feel is still a reasonable price to pay for what you get. 👍 The One Word I can summarize for my Experience at Woon Kiang is that it is "Unusual". 😅 They have alot of Unusual Cuts that are not offered in other KTK Eateries. Their KTK Soup Broth tastes Unusual with it tasting more like a Chicken Soup than a Regular Braised KTK, 🐔 and even their Pricing seems Unusual because what you see on the Pricelist is not actually the Price you pay. 🤔 Hahaha Hey I'm not complaining about the Lower Price I have to pay compared to the Menu Price List. 😅
The Most Unusual was that Extreme Bitterness that I tasted for the 大肠 Big Intestine. 😣 Still not sure if this is a "Didn't Clean Properly Issue"? 🤔 Or if its a "This Particular Cut just taste like this Issue." 🤔 Like I mentioned, this Bitterness is so Extreme, it tasted like a Chewed on a Medicine Pill Raw and having that Bitterness linger long in my Mouth. 😝💊
In Conclusion:
Go for 三楼粿條仔 San Lou Kway Teow Kia if you want a More Familiar Classic KTK Taste. 👍
Go for Woon Kiang if you want a More Unusual Rendition of KTK. 🤔

Both are have their Own Strengths and Unique in their Own Way. But I still can't get over that Extreme Bitterness that I tasted in Woon Kiang. 🤔 This is the 1st time i'm tasting Pork Intestine that tasted so Extreme Bitter. 😣 Unfortunately, because of this Extremely Unusual Bitterness, I have to drop my Score for this place. This Level of Bitterness is Too Extreme to the point that it doesnt taste Normal. 🤔
Despite an Average Score, I can still recommend this, although perhaps don't order their Large Intestine 大肠? 🐷😅 For people who have visited Woon Kiang and ordered this Particular Cut, does it taste as Bitter as I described? 🤔
