When people talk about Famous Kway Teow Kia in JB, the name that comes up regularly in Many Food Blogs is 汶強粿條仔 Restoran Woon Kiang in Stulang Laut, not this place. 🤔 And yet, according to the Friendly Owner, this place has been around for at least 40 Years. 😳 Its also actually interestingly located very near to Woon Kiang.

This was a Very Quaint Rustic Non-Air Conditioned Very Kampung Styled Old-School Eatery. Really looks very Kampung-Styled with its somewhat Makeshift Looking Zinc Roofs and everything. 🤔 This Place also seems to be Popular as there were quite alot of Customers when I was here at around 1.30pm on a Saturday. They are also probably Locals because I don't see any Singapore Cars parked anywhere. 🚗

One thing you do need to take note is that the Whole Place is a Smoking Zone. 🚬 Customers will light up and smoke in here openly, so don't be surprised if someone at your Next Table decide to Smoke. 🤔 This is something you need to take note of if this bothers you. Anyway the Serving Staffs are mostly Thai? Myanmar? Folks although the Main Cook at the Front Ordering/Cooking Station is a Friendly Young Malaysian Chinese Lad. 👨🍳 Everyone are Friendly and Polite and mostly keep to themselves.
Longtime Readers of this Food Blog is also probably very familiar with my "Ordering Misadventures" with JB Kway Teow Kia so I won't elaborate further. 😅 So imagine my Surprise when I reached the Front Ordering Counter, and I only said I was a Solo Diner and they AUTOMATICALLY recommended for me their Solo Set with Cham Cham Ingredients! Wow! 😳 This is the 1st KTK in JB that without any Drama or Stress just recommended me exactly what I always want to order! 😅 Why oh Why did I not come to this place earlier??Anyway it took 2 Mins for my KTK Set to be served up.
The Available Condiments at this Place
They have 3 Condiments available. 2 Chillis and 1 Black Sauce.
You can refer to the Photo I've taken as I describe their Taste.
🌶️ The Left Chilli
Very Watery Texture, its a Lime Infused Sourish and Slightly Spicy Chilli. 🍋🟩 Spiciness is Elevated but don't bite hard. If you are ok with a Sourish type of Chilli with your KTK, you'll probably have no issues with this. 👍
🌶️ The Middle Chilli
This one had a Thicker Texture, like those that you'd normally find sold in a Bottle. It has a Robust Earthy Sweetness with an Elevated Spiciness that also has a Lingering Bite. 🌶️ Not Bad Chilli.
🍯 The Right Black Sauce
This reminds me of the type of Thick Dark Soy Sauce 黑醬油 that you'd normally find for a Chicken Rice. 🤔 It has a Decent Quality Saltish Taste.
This was originally not served with the KTK Set that I ordered. 🤔 I only got this 15 Mins into the Meal and I suspect the Owner saw me dissecting the Dish counting every piece so he added this Bowl of Soup for me to try? 😅
This is not the Same Soup Broth that their KTK Kway Teow is soaked in. 🤔 It has a Good Mix of both Herbal and Braised, leaning slightly more towards Herbly. 😋 Not Overly Salty and is Very Drinkable. Good Soup. No Idea what Dish they sell offers this Soup, but its Not Bad Tasting. 👍

As usual, I dissected and counted every Ingredient in this Set.
This 1 Person Solo KTK Set comes with:
🍜 1 Bowl of KTK Kway Teow
🟧 3 Thick Pieces of Taupok
🐷 9 Thin Slices of Braised Pork Belly
🐷 8 Small Cuts of Intestine
🥚 1 Small Braised Egg cut in Quarters

The Broth served with the Kway Teow has a Unique Earthy Braised Taste? 🤔 I don't think this is Herbal and yet this Braised Taste does not taste like Regular Conventional Braised Flavour that you would expect for a KTK. 🤔 It somehow has a Very Old School 古早味 type of Taste. Not Salty at all.
Amount of Kway Teow is Reasonable for the Price. They're Soft and Easy to Swallow. 😋 What is unique is that for some reason, I thought this Kway Teow tends to like to Clump together in your mouth and when it does so, the Bite Feel becomes like biting into an Actual Kueh Kueh. Nice. 😋

Pork Belly had a Slight Pigginess but Not Overly So. Biting into the Meat Portion released a Nice Sweetish Taste of Pork Meat. 🐷 Very Decent Tasting. The Taupok they have here has a Thick Bite, not those Airy Airy type. It does have a More Prominent Gao Gao Taste of Tofu.

Intestines were Clean Tasting. Again, there is a Slight Subtle Intestiney Pigginess but it isn't too Strong. 🐷 Very Decent Tasting Pig Intestine overall. The Braised Egg as you can see looks like it has been Deeply Soaked and Braised Very Long. 🥚🤔 The Taste is actually Noticeably Saltish compared to other KTK Braised Egg I've eaten. Not Dry Tasting despite the Look.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM12.00 (S$3.60) is a Reasonable Price for what this is. 👍 While mostly maintaining the Usual Formula you'd come to expect from KTK, there are certain elements that differentiates itself among the rest such as a More Unique Braised Taste for the KTK Broth. 😋
I'm impressed with that Herbly Braised Soup Broth that was offered to me. 👍 Although not Super Amazing, I thought it was Decent. The Staffs are Very Friendly and I have No Issues with the Customer Service. 😄 I was most impressed when I didn't even need to ask for my Usual Order and they already predicted correctly what I wanted. Although obviously its not Fully 100% of what they offer, it was still a Decent Mix. 👍
The Only Issue I have for this Place is that the Whole Place is an Open Smoking Zone. 🚬🤔 Even as a Former Smoker myself, I was admittedly a tad miffed when I had someone near to me just light up and puff away while I was eating. 😐 If this is something that bothers you, you might want to take note if you decide to dine in here. I wished they set up a Separate Smoking Zone for Smokers. 🤔
Overall, I still enjoyed my time here. 👍 The Eatery itself is a Big Attraction because a Very Old School Kampung-Styled Eatery like this is practically Non-Existent in Singapore. So to be able to eat KTK in such a Quaint Rustic Location was still a Treat for me. 👍
