S.D.S stands for "Share, Dine, Smile". At least this is what is written on their Wall. This is an Eatery that can be regularly found in most Shopping Malls all over JB. They're a Contemporary Cafe/Bakery with Dine-In Options. 🍰🍽️ The Outlet here in KSL City Mall is Nicely Renovated, has a Cozy Western Cafe Feel and plays Contemporary English (and Malay?) Rock and Pop Songs. 🎶🎵 The Staffs are Mostly Young Folks and they are Friendly and Polite. It was quite Crowded at 7.30pm on a Friday Dinner Time although not Full House.
Ordering of Food is thru a QR Menu and while there is No Free WIFI, KSL City Mall itself has Free WIFI available. The Cheesecake was served up almost immediately after I ordered, and the Chicken Chop itself took 6 Mins. Everything was up in 6 Mins, which was quite impressive considering the Amount of Customers when I was there.
2102 Grilled Chicken Chop (Mushroom Sauce) = RM20.90
This is listed as an "All Time Favourite" Item in their Menu. When it was served up, I was immediately impressed by its Presentation and especially how Big the Chicken Chop looked which is about a Palm Size. 👍The Chilli Sauce on the side tasted like its from a Bottle but the Spiciness is Quite Elevated. 🌶️ While its not Spicy until Bite your Tongue Type, it does linger quite awhile. Not Bad Chilli.
For Sauces, you can choose either Black Pepper or Mushroom Sauce and I chose the Latter. 🍄 As you can see, its Generously Slathered all over the Chicken Chop itself. 👍 The Sauce itself has Nice Brown Gritty Look. Has a Pureed Texture with a Slight Tartness and the Mushroom Taste is Prominent but not Overly Strong. 😋 This tastes like they mixed it themselves and doesn't taste like its from some Can. 👍
Also not just a Simple Kopitiam Type of 五香粉 5-Spice Thickened with Cornflour type of Brown Sauce. There is Some Effort that went into this. 👍 Not Bad Tasting Above Average Quality Mushroom Sauce. The Grilled Chicken Chop itself is Nicely Browned and Pan-Fried with a Nice Roasted Aroma. 😋 Its a Thigh Meat and is Tender to the Bite. Unfortunately, despite its Tender Bite though, I thought the Meat was a Tad Dry. 🤔 Its not the Very Juicy Juicy type when you cut into it. That said, its also Not Overly Salty or Overly Chickeny. Its abit wasted that the Meat itself is Dry. 🤔 Not Super Inedible Dry, but Noticeably Drier than a Grilled Chicken Chop of this Caliber.
Luckily the Mushroom Sauce helped mitigate its Fault and is the one doing all the Heavy Lifting in this Dish. 🍄 It helped tremendously in mitigating and elevate the Dryness of the Meat making it alot more Enjoyable to Eat. 👍 This Sauce really is the Soul of the Dish. Without this Mushroom Sauce this Chicken Chop would have been alot less impressive then it is. 🤔
On the other hand, the Potato Wedges on the Side were Very Impressive. 👍 As you can see from the Photo, these are Actual Skin-On Potato Cuts. 🥔 Amount of Wedges looks like about 1 Small Potato Worth. They have a Delightful Slightly Crispy Outer Skin and the Potato Meat itself is Soft and Tender. 😋 I am impressed that they did not cheap out and just use a Standard Supermarket Frozen Potato Wedges for an Easy Way Out. Excellent Effort being done. 👍
The Veggie Side Salad on the Side was Ok and did its job as a Palette Cleanser well enough. 🥗 A Couple of Lettuce Leaves, some Chickpeas and a Cherry Tomato. I appreciate that they didn't drizzle any Thousand Island or Salad Sauce on this and just kept it Au Naturel. 👍 This made the Salad tasted Less Sinful and Fresh and Clean. I also liked the Addition of Chickpeas which gave the Salad a Slight Potatoey Starchy Texture Tease. 😋

Because S.D.S is also somewhat of a Bakery, I thought I'd also give their Cakes a try. 🍰 I know Cakes are absolutely the Worst Thing to Eat if you are watching your Blood Sugar, but if you really must have one, a Cheesecake (especially the No Bake Type) would be a Good Choice. 👍 This was taken from that Cold Fridge Cake Counter they have and I do like that they will make the effort of Drizzling some Choco Syrup on the Plate for a Better Presentation if you are Dining in. 🍫 If you are watching your Blood Sugar however, you can request for them not to drizzle this Choco Syrup.
This is a "No-Bake Cheesecake". The Bottom Base is a Crushed Cookie binded with Butter followed by the Main Cream Cheese Middle and topped off with a Soft Agar Agar Gelatin Cover. 🧀 When you bite into it, the Whole Thing collapses and disintegrates in your mouth as the Cream Cheese Middle takes over Most of the Taste Profile. 😋
I don't know what Cream Cheese they used, but it is probably a More Expensive Brand as it had a Decent Quality Taste. 😋 Very Acceptable Cream Cheese and I didn't taste much Sweetness at all. 🧀 They either used Very Little to No Sugar in this. I'm also surprised that there is No Taste of Lemon in this, its really just 100% Cream Cheese Taste. 👍
The Base Cookie Layer also didn't taste Very Sweet and mainly exist to provide a Slight Crunch Texture amidst the Softness of Everything. 👍 That Film of Gelatin on Top is Tasteless. I reckon its purpose is mainly just for Apperance Sake to provide a More Professional Looking Shiny Gloss. The Whole Thing tasted Very Cheesy Creamy in my Mouth and felt Very Filling after my Chicken Chop Main Meal. 😋 It does have a Sticky Texture that will stick to your Throat so it would be best if you can wash it down with some Beverage. 🍹
The Only Thing that I wished they did, was if they took their Own Initative to ask me if they could help me store the Cheesecake in their Fridge while I had their Chicken Chop so I can have a Colder Tasting Cake as Dessert later. 🤔 If they had really done this, I would have given them my Top Score in this Review for Customer Service. But this is really just a Very Nitpicky Point. 😅

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At RM20.90 (S$6.30) for the Grilled Chicken Chop, I feel this is an Affordable Price Point for this Quality. 👍 It was Well Presented and Portion felt Reasonable. Although the Meat tasted a Tad Dry, their Mushroom Sauce saved the Dish for me and elevated the Whole Dish Quality. 👍 The Fact they used Actual Skin-On Cut Potato Wedges brings this Above Standard SG Kopitiam Level. I applaud the effort made. This is worth to give it a try. 👍
At RM8.80 (S$2.70) for the Cheesecake, I also thought this was an Affordable Price Point. 🍰 It was Decently Made and the Cream Cheese they used had some Quality to it. I especially liked the fact that that they didn't dump Excessive Sugar in this so this would be Less Sinful for people like me who is watching my Blood Sugar. 😅 Of course its still not something I can eat regularly, but I certainly felt that this can totally fit in as an Occasional Less SInful Treat.
Truth be Told, being that this S.D.S is a Relatively Common Eatery located in Malls all over JB, I originally had Low Expectations before I came here. 🤔 I had fully expected them to take shortcuts or cheapen out to attempt to cut cost, but they proved me wrong especially when they use Actual Skin-On Cut Potatoes. 👍 They could have easily used Supermarket Frozen Potato Wedges to attempt to Cut Cost but they didn't and I appreciate the Effort done. 👍
