Mala 麻辣 is a China Cuisine that was introduced to Singapore a Couple of Years ago that has since become quite a Sensation and is now a Mainstay everywhere. 😋 I'm personally not a Huge Fan though because firstly due to Age, I can't really take too much Mala as I am sensitive to it. 😅 Too much Mala Soup will cause me to have a Bad Skin Irritation.
Apologies in advance to anyone who is looking for me to review the Mala Quality for this Place. This Review will not cover this as I avoid eating Mala Soup due to my Sensitivity to it. 😅

More importantly though, Mala can be a Very Expensive Dish to Eat in Singapore. 🤔 If you think the Pricing of some Cai Fan Stalls are Rediculously Expensive, Mala is like an Even More Extreme Version. 😅 Its almost like a Legit License for Stall Owners to 乱砍人 Chop Carrot. 🔪 Hahaha! Try choosing a few Meat Items with your Mala and you probably will need to mortgage your HDB in order to pay for it! 😅 Jokes aside though, the Crazy Exorbitant Price for Mala is a Big Reason why I don't dare to eat it in Singapore tbh. So Expensive 贵死了. 💸

So I am quite pleased to see a Mala Eatery so conveniently located here in KSL City Mall. 😄 Hey, If i'm too poor to afford to eat Mala in Singapore, then perhaps I can make use of Currency Exchange to help tank the damage and enjoy them here in Malaysia eh? 😅

This place is located in the KSL CIty Mall Food Court area at the side and is takes up quite a Big Area. Its Airconditioned of Course and Cleanly Maintained with a Typical Modern 中国风 style that you'd expect from a Mala Eatery. 👍 Background Music here is of course some Contemporary 网红 type of Modern China Pop Songs. 🎵🎶 Staffs are Friendly and keep to themselves.

Whenever I pass by this place, I always find that there aren't much people around. 🤔 That said, it was Noticeably Crowded when I was there at around 5.30pm on a Friday Evening although still not Full-House.

I liked that the Utensils, Ingredients and Condiments area are all kept clean, especially the Utensils which are kept in a Special Disinfection Cabinet. 👍

How to Order your Food

1) Open up the Disinfection Cabinet and pick out a Big Plastic Bowl and a Pair of Tongs.

2) In typical YTF Style, pick out whatever ingredients you want from the rack. (Price is RM6.30 / 100grams, there are no description of what each item is)

3) Once you are ready, bring it over to the Cashier Counter and let them know what Soup Base you want. They will then weigh the thing and advise you on the price to pay.

4) After you have paid the Cashier, you will be given a Receipt with a Queue Number. You are supposed to Self-Collect when your Queue Number is Chimed.
Although for my case, they actually personally served it up to my Table instead for some reason. It took 6 Mins for mine to be served up.

The Condiments Section

As I'm not a fan of China-Styled Condiments, and I don't usually eat them often, I didn't take any Condiments and as such I will not go into details for each of them.
You can refer to the Photo taken for the Types of Condiments available. 📷

Below are the list of Items that I took.

🍅 Soup Broth (Tomato Broth)
🚫 No Rice, No Noodles

🐮 1 Packet of Beef
🐷 1 Block of Pig Blood
🐷 Some Slices of Pork Belly
🦆 3 Slices of Smoked Duck
🥬 3 Slices of Lotus Roots
🥬 2 Types of Green Vegetables

Even though it didn't look like I chose alot of items, the Bowl still looked impressively chock full of Ingredients. 👍

There is a Strong Aroma wafting from it, although I'll be hardpressed to say it smells appetizing. 🤔 I feel "Pungent" is a Better Word to describe this because its a Strong Mix of Tomato and Smoked Duck. 😷 The Smoked Duck especially formed a Very Strong Core Base of the Aroma. You know that type of Smell thats not Disgusting yet also not Savoury or Appetizing? Yea that sort of Aroma. 🤔

Tomato Broth

Chose this one because its the Only Broth they have that is Not Spicy. 👍 Surprisingly, this is also quite highly raved in Google Reviews of this Place. Not Sourish at all, this tastes Savoury with a Hint of Tomato. 🍅 Has a Slight Sweetish Taste but Not Overly So.
Because of my Choices, it was Noticeably Flavoured with the Smoked Duck and Pork Belly which .... I can't say is an Appetizing Mix especially as the Smoked Duck tried dominating the Broth too much. 🤔 Tasted abit Jelak the more I ate the Dish.

🐮 1 Packet of Beef

I liked this. Not sure what Cut is used, but it has a Solid Robust Meaty Bite Texture and doesn't taste Overly Beefy. 😋 If you enjoy Beef, I can recommend choosing this if you enjoy a Good Meaty Beef Chew for your Mala.

🐷 1 Block of Pig Blood

This was a Big Block of Pig Blood. Has a Firmish Texture, there is a Slightly Elevated 血腥 Gaminess compared to others I've eaten 🤔 but I felt is still Acceptable for me.

🐷 Some Slices of Pork Belly

Tastes exactly how you'd imagine. Porkiness abit Elevated but not too much. Compared to other Pork Belly I've eaten, I felt this was More Meaty than Fatty. Not Bad. 👍

🦆 3 Slices of Smoked Duck

Despite only 3 Slices, I felt this one Derailed the Dish for me. 🫤 As mentioned earlier, its Presence was Too Domineering in both the Broth and the Overall Aroma of the Dish for me. 🫤
What I couldn't take was the Meat Taste. I think this is probably some China-Styled of Preparation but it did not taste like your Typical Duck Meat at all. 🤔 The Texture tasted more akin to a Very Soft and Smooth Meatball with a Very Processed and Artifical Taste and a Deep Layer of Smokiness. 🤔

Personally, I thought it was processed so heavily, that it doesn't even taste like Duck anymore. I'm not a Fan of this Taste as I prefer a More Original 原味 for my Meats.
If you are not familiar or are used to this China-Style of Preparation for Duck, be very careful when choosing this because I felt it potentially wrecked the Dish for me. 🫤 Its shocking how only 3 Slices of this can impact so much. I can't imagine what would have happened had I chosen more. 😅

🥬 2 Types of Green Vegetables
🥬 3 Slices of Lotus Roots

Erm I think the 2 Veggies I picked are Spinach and Nai Bai? Nothing much to say about these, the Veggies I chose tasted pretty standard, and Lotus Roots seems to be a Standard Choice for Mala. Clean Tasting and provided a Nice Veggie Crunch Chew. 😋

------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At a Total Combined Price of RM30.70 (S$9.30) for what I chose, especially 3 types of Meats (Beef, Pork, Duck), I thought it was quite a Reasonable Price. I reckon its unlikely to reach Sub-S$10.00 if I were to choose the same things in a SG Mala Eatery. 😅
While I'm unable to comment on the Quality of their Mala Broth since I can't take Mala, I thought their Non-Spicy Tomato Broth was not bad. 👍 It tasted alright although it did start feeling Jelak for me towards the End of my Meal. Not something that can drink dry.

Among the Ingredients I chose, I liked the Beef the best, 🐮 because I love the Robust Beefy Meaty Chew. 😋 Hahaha If I were to try this again, I'll probably just choose this Beef + Some Veggies.
The Only Component for me that I did not like was the Smoked Duck 🦆 which as I mentioned actually derailed the Whole Dish for me even though it was just 3 Small Slices. 🫤 If you are not used to such China-Styled Preparation of Duck, be very careful when choosing this Ingredient.

Overall, I am actually quite satisfied with this place. To be able to eat a Sub-S$10.00 Mala Dish with 3 types of Meat was a Reasonable Price. 👍 As I don't eat Mala often, I don't know if this is a Reasonable Price though. For Regular Mala Eaters, is RM6.30 / 100grams a Reasonable Price for the Amount of Items I took? 🤔
I'm actually more surprised to see the Amount of Diners during a Friday Evening Dinner Time because this place is always so Quiet at other times. No idea why that day was particularly popular. 🤔

Have you eaten from this Eatery here in KSL City Mall? I would love to know how you think of them!
