As I explored around TUTA, I came across this interesting Food Stall located within Kopitiam Restoran Chee Wah that sold Wild Boar Meat! 🐗😳

Based on several Food Reels I've seen in Social Media, apparently Wild Boar Meat isn't that Rare actually, and can usually be found as a Curry Side Dish in some Cai Fan Stalls. 🍛 But this is the 1st time I'm seeing a Stall that is dedicated to Only Wild Boar like this. 🤔

The Last Time I tasted Wild Boar was when I was in Taiwan in 2019. 🇹🇼
I'm really happy to be able to have the chance to find an Actual Dedicated Food Stall here in JB. 😄

Run by a Very Adorable and Friendly Elderly Couple, with the Lady being the Main Cook and more Chattier One. 😄 According to her, they have been around for at least 29 years already. Very Impressive. 👍

They only sell 2 Types of Wild Boar Dishes here, one is a Herbal Soup, 🥣 and the other is a Curry Variation. 🍛 They are usually eaten with Rice but I did not order any rice for mine. Both were served up quickly in about 2 Mins.

胡椒根山猪肉汤 Wild Boar Leg with Pepper Soup = RM14.00

The Side Condiment served with this is a Very Intense Salty Soy Sauce with Cut Pieces of Chilli Padi soaked within. 🌶️
At first look, it felt like a Small Bowl. 🤔 As you can see from the Photo, The Overall Presentation isn't anything to look at and the Soup has a Very Dull Greyish Look to it with Several Pieces of Meat Floating within. 🍖

When I tasted the Soup though, I was immediately impressed. 😋 It had a Very Intense Deep Taste of Ginger 🫚 mixed with some kind of Herb that I'm unfamiliar with, but it worked very well with the Taste. 😋 Really Gao Gao Savoury Herbally Taste with a Peppery Undertone that flows Warmly down your Throat and Warms you up. ❤️ This is the Type of Soup that would be Excellent to Drink especially during Rainy Cold Weather. 🌧️ 好汤!

As I dug deeper into the Soup, there are about what looks like 5 Pieces of Trotters. 🍖 One taste of this, you can tell this is definitely Not Regular Pork because they are Very Lean and Meaty. And this is the Distinct Different between a Regular Pig and Wild Boar. 🐷🐗 Boar Meat is a Very Lean and Muscular Meat with Noticeably Lesser Fat compared to Pig.

The Skin is Soft but Not Fatty. 👍 I know its hard to imagine a Non-Fatty Porcine Skin but this is what Wild Boar is. Not Tough at all, the Meat has a Tender, yet Firmish Bite. Very Lean, Very Clean Tasting with No Gaminess. 😋 Its really Flavourful due to being Soaked Very Well in that Solid Herbal Peppery Soup and it was an Absolute Delight to eat. ❤️ Try to imagine a Very Muscular, Lean and Meaty Pig and this is what Wild Boar Meat tastes like. 🐗 Both Meat and Soup worked together Beautifully in this Dish and Nothing Clashed. Excellent. 👍

Again, Presentation isn't much to look at. Served with a Couple of Pieces of Potato, 🥔 the Main Curry Gravy is Very Dark Brownish Colour with a Thick Consistency. 🍛
Upon tasting the Curry, I thought it has Depth. 👍 This definitely does not taste anything close to an Indian-Styled of Curry and interestingly has what I would describe as a Very Earthy Braised sort of Taste. 🤔

Its also Considerably Salty although not Overly So, but this is definitely more suited to eat with Rice. 🍚 This Curry Gravy for some reason also tasted abit like Lamb Satay for some reason. 🤔 Actually come to think of it, this Curry tasted more like Satay than a Conventional Curry. 😅

The Boar Meat in this is definitely a Different Cut compared to the one served with their Herbal Soup. 🐗 It is Noticeably Much Tougher in Bite Texture. No idea what cut of Boar Meat is this, but because of how its cooked in Curry like this, I'm guessing that this Particular Cut is also probably Gamier. 🤔 I don't taste any Gaminess however, and in fact I can't even taste any of its Original Meat taste because this Curry/Satay Gravy completely takesover as the Main Taste Profile.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At RM14.00 (S$4.30) for the Bowl of Herbal Wild Boar Soup, I feel it is worth the Money because of its Deep Herbal Taste. 😋 The Soup Broth has Depth and paired Very Well with the Tender Clean Tasting Boar Meat. Its almost like eating an Alternate BKT. 😋 Amount of Meat while not alot, I thought was still Reasonable for the Price. They were quite Meaty and I enjoyed eating them alot. 🍖

At RM11.00 (S$3.40) for the Curry Version I thought was also Reasonable but this one is definitely Much More 重口味. 🤔 While I am ok with the Curry Gravy, I thought it dominated the Dish too much and didn't give the Boar Meat space to perform. 🤔 But perhaps it needed to be made this way due to the Cut of the Meat used? I'm not sure. Definitely eat this with Rice though as it can be quite Jelaky and a Tad too Heavy if eaten on its own. 🍚

I have no issues with both Dishes as both of them cater for Different Palettes. 👍 From the Taste, you can tell they is quite alot of work when making them. Herbal Soup was Gao Gao and Not Dilluted, and the Curry Gravy was Strongly Spiced with No Attempts to Scrimp. 👍

Really Friendly Owners here especially the Elder Lady and I enjoyed discussing the Dishes with her. 😄 From our Conversation, I could tell she has Alot of Passion in Cooking and she is Proud of her Work. 👍 And Rightly so because the Quality of the Dishes here doesn't lie.

Compared to Regular Pork, Wild Boar is actually a Very Lean and Clean Meat. 🐗 As I did further research on this, apparently it has Even More Nutritional Protein Value when compared Pound for Pound with a Regular Pig. 🐷 Tis a Pity that such a Quality Meat is banned in Singapore. 🤔 No need to look for Wild Boars in Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin or Punggol! 😅 Wild Boar Meat can be found easily across the Causeway.

If you are here in TUTA and is game enough to give Wild Boar a try, I can definitely recommend this place. 👍 Delicious Taste, Affordable Price, and such Friendly Owners, this is an Easy Top Score for me. Highly Recommended! 👍
