Randomly found this place when I was exploring Ladies Street 女人街. Totally surprised to find a Koong Woh Tong here in Hong Kong. 🇭🇰😳 I always thought this was a Malaysian Brand. 🇲🇾🤔

The Staffs are Friendly and Welcoming but are mostly quiet and keep to themselves. Old Looking Place, it certainly looks like this particularly branch has been here for many years already. 🤔

The Interior of this place certainly looks like its from Ultra 1880s Traditional Old Chinese Medicine Hall feel.
😅

Firstly, Wow no kidding, the Google Reviewers were right. The Sweet Syrup they use here REALLY is Honey Water, not just a Simple Sugar Syrup. 🍯😳

This tastes much more Elegant than using Sugar Syrup IMO. 🤔

Secondly, the Guiling Gao consistency here is THICK! 😳 Check out my attached video to see how THICK it was! 🎥😳 You actually need to put some effort to dig it in. This is the Thickest Guiling Gao I've ever eaten. 😅

No Guiling Gao in Singapore and Malaysia are as thick as this. 🤔 I also felt that the Guiling Gao here was noticeably more Herbly and Slightly More Bitter than the one I had in JB. 🌿🤔

Now the Ya Sei Mei is also Very Different. Malaysia JB version pulled no punches and was Bitter. 😜 The "Don't Give Face" kind of Bitter. In Comparison, while the HK version also has a Similar Bitter Taste Profile, it also has an a Very Subtle Floral Herbal taste that somewhat softens the Bitterness. 🌼🌿🤔

In fact the more I drank it, the more it tasted like a Strong Black Coffee with a Herbal Floral aftertaste. ☕🌼 I would call this a 苦香 type of taste if it makes any sense. 🤔

I was kindda tired from all the Walking I've done 🚶 and I dunno if it was a Placebo effect, but I legit felt more Alert and Energetic after drinking this for some reason. 💪

2024 Price Comparison between Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia JB

Hong Kong KWT
Ya Sei Mei Herbal Tea (1 Cup) = HKD15.00 (S$2.45)
Herbal Jelly Guiling Gao (Small) = HKD63.00 (S$10.25)

Singapore KWT

Ya Sei Mei Herbal Tea (1 Cup) = S$2.00
Herbal Jelly Guiling Gao (Small) = S$9.00

Malaysia Johor Bahru KWT
Ya Sei Mei Herbal Tea (1 Cup) = RM4.00 (S$1.40)
Herbal Jelly Guiling Gao (Small) = RM15.00 (S$5.00)

Doing a Price Comparison between the 3 Countries if using Currency Conversion, Hong Kong Prices are the Most Expensive, while Malaysia JB is the Most Affordable.

Does this mean that HK Koong Woh Tong is better? 🤔 Personally I'm not sure. The Herbal Jelly being Thicker in Consistency may not necessarily mean its more potent. 🤔 It may just mean they use more Agar Agar Powder as a Coagulant Agent thats all. But I do like the more Elegant Taste of HK Ya Sei Mei tea. 🇭🇰😋

If you do consume this, and are here in HK, I would recommend giving the HK Version a try. It does taste somewhat different. 🇭🇰🤔 In addition, you can click on this link:
