This is just one of many Eateries in HK that specializes in "兩餸飯" or "2-Dish Rice". 🇭🇰🍛
The Word "餸" (Song) is Cantonese for "Ingredient" or "Liao" in Hokkien

Basically its Cai Fan style, sold in a Styrofoam or Plastic Box filled with Rice as a Main Carb 🍚 and 2 (or 3) other Dishes. They are priced between HKD30.00 to HKD40.00.
This Dish was created during the Height of the COVID Pandemic where Dine-In was not allowed. 🍱🤔 Post-Pandemic, it is apparently now also the Most Affordable Way to get a Meal in Hong Kong. 🇭🇰🤔

The Concept may sound very similar to Singapore's Cai Fan, 🇸🇬🤔 but in HK, any Dish means if its either Meat 🍖 or Vegetable, 🥬 It doesn't matter whether u choose:
1 Meat, 1 Veg, 🍖🥬
2 Meats 🍖🍖
2 Vegs, 🥬🥬
The Price is still HK33.00 (S$5.70) with Rice 🍚 for this Eatery.
Fish or Seafood 🐟 doesn't count because it may cost extra.

I very much prefer Hong Kong's way of Counting because its Very Clear and Easy. 👍

In Comparison, Singapore's Cai Fan Dishes all have Different Prices whether if its Meat 🍖 or Veggies, 🥬 which has also had the Unfortunate Controversial issue of counting something as "Meat" 🍖🤔 even tho its just Small bits of Minced Meat in a Veggie Dish. 🤔

The Stall Lady who explained all the details to me was Very Friendly. 😄 But perhaps that was because I spoke Cantonese with her and she was very clear in explaining the details to me. 👍
I chose 1 Meat 🍖 1 Veg 🥬 and I do notice the Amount of Vegetables they give is Generous. 👍 Much more Generous than how much Veggies a typical Sg Cai Fan would give. 😅 I think its like 3 portions worth.

The Meat Patty looks huge, but it's made up of mostly 60% Fatty Pieces with Alot of Fillers like Peas 🫛 and Corns. 🌽 I also tasted some Flour. 🤔 Very Jelak to eat. I think this is how they scrimp on price. 💵🤔 I didn't take other Meat Based Item, but i reckon they either do it like this Meaty Patty and put in lots of Fillers or the Portion is not alot. 🍖🤔

HK33.00 (S$5.70) for 2 Dishes and a Rice can be either Expensive or Cheap depending how u look at it. 💵🤔 It's Expensive because at Face Value, S$5.70 for a 2 Dish Cai Fan is considered a High Price to pay if not in the Town Area in Singapore. 🇸🇬🤔 Its Cheap because this shop is in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is considered Town Area and the Amount of Ingredients, especially Veggies given is alot. 🥬👍

Nutritionally though it is Debatable if eating this regularly is Good for your Health in the Long Run, 🤔 especially seeing how much fillers this Meat Patty had. 🍖🤔 Would I recommend to eat this if you're on a Holiday? Of course not. But it was interesting to see what an Average Hong Kong Working Class eats for their Meal. 🇭🇰🤔

In Comparison, we are still lucky to be able to find 2 Veg, 1 Meat Cai Fan at S$3.00 in the More Residential Non-Town Areas of Singapore compared to Hong Kong. (Price as of 2024)
