🌿🐔 Kacangma (Motherwort Chicken) = RM15.00
This is a Dish Unique to Sarawak. Its a Chinese Hakka Chicken Stew and the Main Ingredient used is a Herb called Motherwort (益母草). 🌿🤔 Apparently, this is meant more as a Confinement Dish for Ladies 🤰 (After Delivery of a Baby) where its supposed to be Very Nourishing for the Blood and Very Good for the Replenishing of a Body's Nutrition.
This Place was just a Random Place I stumbled into while exploring and since I wanted to try Kacangma, and they sold it here, I figured why not. 👍 So when I ordered this, the Very Adorable and Friendly Stall Lady 💁 and her Daughter 👩 were looking at me with Wide Open Eyes, probably in Amusement. 😳 Hahaha they're probably wondering "Why the heck is a Guy trying to eat a Confinement Dish?" 😅
The Dish itself as you can see doesn't look Visually Appealing. 🤔 It looks Very Earthy, Green and Brown and smells like Ginger Chicken (酱葱鸡). 🫚🐔 Chicken Pieces are Thigh Meat and the Portion is Decent for the Price. 👍
I'll be Perfectly Honest. I find this Dish tastes Very Bland and Bitter. 🐔🤔 Everything is Bland, from the Broth to the Chicken. Luckily there was a Dark Soy Sauce and Chilli Condiment to give it at least abit of taste. 🍯 The Motherwort is minced into Small Pieces and I thought they taste like Bitter Tea Leaves. 🌿🤔

I am not going to sugarcoat this but I don't like the taste. 🌿 To me, this is way too Earthy and Bland. I'd describe the Taste as: "Trying to eat Boiled Tea Leaves with Unsalted Boiled Chicken". 🌿🐔 This is the Closest Approximation I can give for this. This is a Really Unique Dish that really an Acquired Taste. 🤔
According to the Stall Lady, actually there are some variations of Kacangma that has a more Conventional Braised and Salted Taste, 🧂🐔 but her version is supposed be the most Original Version. Some people apparently prefer such a Taste. 🤔 In addition, Kacangma is supposed to be good for expelling Sweat and is good for the Body. 💦 I don't know if its a Placebo effect, but I did feel Sweatier while eating this. 💦😅
Even though I couldn't finish the Broth, at least I managed to finish up the Chicken Pieces. 🐔👍 The Dark Soy Sauce really helped here.
Despite not liking the Dish, I really enjoyed my Conversation with the Stall Lady. 💁😄 She was a really Jolly and Friendly Person and we had a Wonderful Time discussing about our Culinary Interests. 👍
It was very Adorable to see her very Proudly and Enthusiastically showing me all the Dishes she cooked on her Mobile Phone. ♥️ Throughout our Conversation, you can really feel the Passion she has for Cooking. As a Fellow Home Cook myself, I can totally respect that. ♥️
In fact, she's so Nice, she even gave me a Pack of Kacangma Herbs for Free for me to try to cook this myself! 🌿😳 I really don't know what to say. Here I am, a Complete Stranger from across an Ocean and she unhesitatingly just gave it to me for free. 😳♥️ I am at a loss of words at how Generous she is.
Truly an Exceptional Experience with such a Wonderful Person. ♥️ If you think you would like to try Kacangma, I can totally recommend this place. Amazing Kuching Hospitality! 🇲🇾♥️
