Most of us would know of this Indonesian Cake known as "Kueh Lapis" 🇮🇩🍰 but in Kuching, its known as "Kek Lapis". 🇲🇾🍰 This is another Kuching Speciality. This is the type of Cake that really takes alot of patience to make. Just looking at the intricate layers upon layers and you can tell that alot of work is gone into the making. 👍 Kek Lapis are sold in a Thick Long Slab and mostly range from RM8.00 to RM15.00 and up. 🤔 And from most of the Kek Lapis shops I visited, the prices are more or less the same throughout.

There are many Kek Lapis Shops around and I chose this one specifically because they have 2 adorable Cats within! 🐱😺 They're so adorable they're really enjoying themselves, sleeping and manja all over the place. ♥️ The Staffs are also very Friendly with a Smile and I chose their Classic Kek Lapis which is something called "Original Cheese" 🍰🧀
Of course there are many more flavours to choose from. There are so many Beautiful Variations of Kek Lapis, it almost feels like you're touring an Art Gallery. 😄 They even have a Free Sample station so you can have a try which Flavour you prefer before you make your decision. 👍

For this Original Cheese Flavour, the thing that I noticed first was that it had a very Strong Cheesecake like Aroma. 🧀😋 The actual cake don't actually have any Cheese Taste though, which was a Slight Disappointment, 😅 but the Butter taste is very prominent. Its not the Super Buttery type of Taste, but you can definitely feel its presence here. 🧈 Personally, I also thought it tasted just nice and not too sweet.

After tasting this, now I understand why this is called "Kek Lapis" rather than "Kueh Lapis" because this totally doesn't taste like how you'd imagine it to taste. 🍰🤔 It really does taste more like a Cake than a Kueh. 🤔 Texture is Soft, Sticky and Spongy, and I thought it tend to stick to my Throat often. This is perfect if washed down with some Tea or Coffee ☕ which I did at 黑豆食品 Black Bean Coffee & Tea Company. Pairing this Kek Lapis with Coffee was a real treat! 🍰☕
RM10.00 for this size of Kek Lapis I feel is worth it just because of how much work it takes to make this. 👍 Personally, I don't know if this is really the Best Kek Lapis ever, but the Combination of the Friendly Staffs, 😄 and the 2 Adorable Cats 😺🐱 is a Yes from me for Maria. I can recommend to come here if ya'll want to give Kek Lapis a try.
