Who is P. Ramlee? (1929 - 1973)
P. Ramlee (Mr Teuku Zakaria bin Teuku Nyak Puteh) was a Very Famous and Talented Malaysian Actor, Director and Singer who has left a Long Lasting Legacy for Malaysia's Film and Music Industry. (Photo Credit: IMDB)
He is so Famous that I am also aware of his Illustrious Legacy even as a Chinese Singaporean who is Unfamiliar with his Work, and not even born when he passed away. His Wife, Saloma (1935 - 1983) is Equally as Famous as him and is the Singer of that Iconic Selamat Hari Raya Song that we will always hear during the Hari Raya Season.
This was an Adorable Cafe here in Taman Nong Chik located along a Row of Shophouses that is dedicated and themed after him. Its a Non-Airconditioned Place with a Spacious Interior and seems Popular with the Locals as you can see. I like the Classic Malay Songs played in the Background which I suppose are Songs sung by the Man himself.

The Walls are filled with Adorable Artistic Hand-Drawn Art of P. Ramlee which I can only assume are Iconic Scenes from his Movies. I find it also Very Adorable they have a Classic Disco Ball Decoration right at their Ceiling too.
The Staffs at this Place are surprisingly Young Gen-Z Folks which I thought was quite interesting considering P. Ramlee himself isn't from their Generation. Heck even I am not from P. Ramlee's Generation myself. Really Friendly, Welcoming and Chirpy especially for 1 Young Malay Lady who greeted me sweetly as soon as I entered. They don't have a Big Menu consisting of just a Few Pages. Anyway it took about 7 Mins for the Dish to be served up.

Laksa Nonya (Mee Kahwin) = RM12.90
Chose this because it seems to be their Main Signature Dish and is the one that is highly regarded in Google Reviews of this place. I was impressed with its Presentation which was served in a Large Deep Bowl that looks like alot of Food. The First Aroma that I smelled was Fried Wanton wafting from it.
The Dish itself comes with:
Half a Hard-Boiled Egg
1 Small Square Taupok cut in Half
4 Pieces of Sihum
1 Flat Fried Fishcake Slice
1 Fishball cut in Half
2 Small Square Slices of Fishcake
And lots of Fried Wanton Strips

The Sambal in this Dish has a Juicy Texture with a Noticeable Sweetness.
Its not Haebee or Onion Based, and I couldn't quite tell how this was made. Also Not Spicy, the Spiciness is just a Mild Gentle Heat.
The Quality of the Broth
Rich and Lemak Lemak but compared to WW Laksa House, this tasted like a Different Style of Lemak. This was a Uniquely Malay-Styled of Milky Lemakness with a Hint of Sweetness. Not a Smooth Broth, there are bits of Grittiness within. This is a Decent Broth but not quite Drinkable as I thought it gets Jelak quite easily.
I personally feel this Broth is a Tad Too Sweet for my Preference. This is alleviated quite abit when I squeezed in some Lime because the Additional Lime Sourness really helped in cutting down the Jelakness of this Sweet Broth.
Quality of the Noodles
Chose this "Mee Kahwin" because I've never tried it before. Its a Mix of Slightly Thick Laksa-Styled ๅนผ็ฑณ็ฒ and Thin Vermicelli. Likely from some Package, it was Tender to the Bite and Amount given felt Acceptable for the Price.
Quality of the Rest of the Ingredients
They give alot of this Fried Wanton Strips. A Tad Oily Tasting, I thought it was adorable that they looked like Kway Teow when soaked in the Laksa Broth.

All the Processed Fishcakes are most certainly Supermarket Products and taste like how you'd expect them to taste although one of the Fishcake Slice tasted abit Chao Sng. Its not Rotten or anything, but something about it just tasted off.

Taupok has a Unique Sweetish Taste that I've never tasted for a Taupok before. It tastes like they are Pre-Soaked or Marinated in some Sugared Water? Really Sweet Tasting, this was an Unusual Taste for a Taupok.

The 4 Sihums were quite Unique. 3 Large and 1 Small. When I say Large, I really mean it. I have never seen such Large Size for a Sihum before. Probably a Different Type of Species. They have a Tad Rubbery Chew tho, not the Soft to the Bite type.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
For the Price of RM12.90 (S$4.20) this was an Acceptable Price for this Bowl of Laksa that is choked full of Ingredients. That said, while this was a Rich Creamy Malay-Styled Laksa, I'm afraid the Broth did not do it for me. It tasted Overly Creamy and Sweet and as the Dish went on, became More and More Jelak for me.
I get what they are trying to achieve with giving lots of Fried Wanton Skin which is to deliver a Crispy Crunch Factor. But when the Dish was served up, they were already Pre-Soaked making them Nua Nua. If I have a Suggestion, maybe serve these Fried Wantons Skin separately for Customers to ownself add, so as to preserve the Crunch Factor.
Another thing I couldn't get past is how Unusually Sweet Non-Haebee this Sambal tasted and the Tad Chao Sng of one of the Fishcake Slice threw me off. Decently Done, Culinarily there is Effort done to this Dish as it is a Creamy Rich Broth but it is not to my Taste because of the Jelaky Sweetness I experienced the More I tasted it.
I appreciate the Overall Design of the Place as an Eatery themed after P. Ramlee is something Unique and especially surprising when all of the Staffs look so Young. I also appreciate how Friendly, Welcoming and Chirpy they were.
Don't let my Average Score deter you from this Place. While this Dish is not my taste for a Laksa, perhaps someone out there might appreciate it more. If you are Ok with the Prices on their Menu, and is ok for a More Sweet Tasting Laksa Broth, I can still recommend this place to give it a try if you are here in Taman Nong Chik especially if you are a P. Ramlee Fan.
