This was a Restaurant that was kindly recommended by Francyn Tan from my Former FB Group. Its an Adorable British-Themed Restaurant. Really Adorable, there are many UK-Styled Items here as a Decoration including a Classic UK-Styled Telephone Box right at the Entrance. I've never been to the UK myself so I don't know how Authentic this is, but it looked Adorable.

When I first stepped into the Place however, I noticed a Pungent Smell almost immediately. This Smell isn't Smelly, more like the sort of Stale Smell that you'd get from an Old Shop sort of Smell. For people who are sensitive to Smells, you might want to take note of this.
The Place itself is Nicely Air-Conditioned and Classy Looking done up to look like some British Restaurant. There is interestingly a Small Children's Kitchen Playset for Kids to play while their Parents Dine. The Music they play in here were some Soft Sentimental / English Pop Songs. I also thought the Soft Lighting of this Place makes it suitable for a Dating Couple. (If they can get past that Pungent Smell of the Place)

There weren't much Customers, only 2 Tables at 11.50pm on a Weekday Afternoon. The Staffs were Young Malaysian Locals and were Polite, Friendly and Earnest to Serve. I liked that they will also re-verify when I placed my Order.
No Idea what is their Signature here, and I didn't feel like eating Classic British Fish & Chips so I ordered this Lunch Set to take advantage of their Lunch Promo. It took 9 Mins for the Mushroom Soup, 12 Mins for the Hot Tea, 14 Mins for the Main Chicken Chop, and 23 Mins for the Cheesecake.
British Chicken Chop Set = RM23.00Hot Tea (No Sugar)
Served in a Decently Sized Cup, the Tea Aroma is Strong. Not sure if its Brewed or from a Teabag, but I liked the fact they didn't include the Actual Teabag within which would have made it feel Cheaper.
Having said that, the Tea still tasted like its probably made from some Teabag. I'm no Tea Connoisseur but I feel this is like Slightly Higher Level compared to a Regular Teh-O-Kosong. Nothing Amazing, but also Nothing Particularly Wrong.

Wild Mushroom Soup
Served in an Unusually Wide Plate instead of a Bowl, my first thought was if they are doing this to attempt to disguise the Amount of Soup given. I felt the Amount of Soup is comparable to a Small Bowl but this Plate made it so difficult to position the Dish when I tried to take photos of it.
The Soup itself has a Decent Mushroomy Aroma. Taste was Decently Creamy and Mushroomy. It doesn't taste like its taken from some Can at least. The Mushrooms are minced Very Finely. While its not Spicy, I felt a Slight Tinge Tease of Pepperiness in my Throat after a Few Spoonfuls of it.

Mashed Potato
Well Beaten until Smooth in Texture, I liked the Presence of Butter that was incorporated within. Not too Buttery but just enough to let you know of its Presence. Together with the Same Signature Brown Sauce, that enhances it without it being Too Salty, I appreciate the Decent Amount of Effort that goes into this. Some other Mashed Potato don't even bother to add Butter for one thing.

Salad
This is of course the Palette Cleanser of the Dish. There was a Decent Choice of Veggies here and I think was partly chosen because of their Colour. Abit of Green, Abit of Purple and Abit of Red made this look Colourful.
There is a Faint Hint of a Sweetish Drizzle on them that isn't Overly Sweet and doesn't try to upstage and take away the Natural Fresh Veggie Taste, but just enough to hit away any Potential Raw Veggie ่ฆๅณ that it may have. Nicely Done.

The Chicken Chop (with Broovies Signature Brown Sauce)
When this was served up, my First Impression was that it isn't a Very Big Chicken Chop, looks like a Thigh Cut without the Drummy. The Dish has a Roasted sort of Chickeney Aroma wafting from it.
I like the Sprinkle of Herbs on the side. I think it's Dried Coriander? Whatever it is, it isn't a Strong Tasting Herb but its presence gave a Touch of Class to the Dish for me.
As I tasted the Chicken Chop, I thought it was Decently Made Culinarily. Not just a Simple Hawker Center Western Food type of Chicken Chop, I appreciate them taking the effort of Pan-Frying and Crisping up the Chicken Skin layer which gave a Slight Crisp Texture when you bite into it. The Meat itself is Tender, Plump and Juicy with No Dryness.

The Broovies Signature Brown Sauce Lum on this was a Sweetish Oniony Tasting Sauce. Doesn't taste like some Cheaply Made ไบ้ฆ็ฒ type of Brown Sauce thickened with Cornstarch. This is especially so when I actually found a Small Piece of Onion within.
What I especially liked was that this Sauce isn't those Overly ้ๅฃๅณ type where its being Vulgarly Drenched all over the Chicken Chop. Whoever designed this Dish is not afraid of letting the Chicken Chop perform by itself with the Sauce serving to enhance it rather than letting it do all the Heavy Lifting. Definitely a Higher Level of Culinary Standard compared to a Typical Kopitiam/Hawker Centre level of Chicken Chop.
Lemon Cheese Cheesecake = RM13.00
Not a Large Slice, this was presented drizzled with some Caramel Sauce and some Cookie Crumbs. I like the Twirl of an Actual Lemon Slice on the Top of it. The Sauce tasted like the sort of Smokey Caramel Sauce you'd normally drizzle on Popcorn. Sweet but Not Overly So, it tasted nice.
The Texture of the Cheesecake is Noticeably Soft and Collapses Easily in your Mouth. The Taste is actually Quite Lemony with a Decent Amount of Lemon Juice beaten into it. More Lemon than Cream Cheese actually. Nothing particularly Special about the Base, it tastes like a Classic Cookies + Butter Mix.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM23.00 (S$7.40) for the Chicken Chop Set that includes a Hot Tea, I thought this was a Reasonable Price. While the Appearance of this Chicken Chop may look Simple and Uninspiring, there is Decent Culinary Effort that goes into this.
From the Effort of Crisping Up the Chicken Skin, to not Vulgarly Drenching with Sauce, to even the Light Sweetish Drizzle that goes into the Salad. Whoever designed this Dish has a Decent Culinary Understanding of Less is More. It was refreshing to eat a Chicken Chop where its not Drowning in Sauce. Pretty Decent Set at a Reasonable Price.
At the Price of RM13.00 (S$4.30) for the Cheesecake isn't Very Cheap, but compared to others I've eaten, I thought this was one of the Lighter Ones that I've eaten. Considerably More Lemony in Flavour.
I really like that its Lemony but Not Sour and it makes it actually Very Refreshing to eat. It may be a Cheesecake, but its not Jelak or Heavy Tasting and even works as a Sort of "Dessert Palette Cleanser" if it makes any sense.
The Only 2 Issues I have are: First if they can improve their Dish Serving Timings. 12 Mins for the Hot Tea, especially 23 Mins for the Cheesecake is Unusually Too Long when it wasn't even Crowded. Hahaha did they make this from Scratch? This was the one I felt hurt the Score the Most.
Don't let my Average Score deter you from this place. If you are ok with the 2 issues that I mentioned, can accept the Prices in their Menu, I can recommend to give this place a try. I appreciate the amount of Culinary Effort in their Dishes.

Hi Ryan, I think you already covered 80% of Kulai cafe, restaurant, kopi tiam. 2nd trip can cover 100% of Kulai, kelapa sawit, Saleng food. If shop got pungent stale smell, it definitely put people off. For me I definitely cannot eat here same time smelling the stale smell. hahahaha....23 mins to serve the cheesecake very long lei. This type of cheesecake need make at least 8 hours ahead. Once set, slice and chill in fridge. Just add slice of lemon and sprinkles take 23 mins? hahahaha.... I think they forgot your order or they wait till you finish eat chicken chop only serve.
ReplyDeleteya no bake cheesecake is set overnight. no idea why 23 mins so long , I guess prolly like what u say, they forgot my order ba? ๐ and yes the ่ญ่ญ smell was a tad distracting. but like I said it's a old place type of smell la. ๐ the chicken chop surprisingly had quite some effort to it which I appreciated tho.
Deletehahaha Kulai still has many places I marked but didn't go. I love Kulai for it's simple town feel. ❤️ and yes need to visit Kelapa Sawit more too. ❤️ time really flies, end of this week Kulai reviews end liao, but we will be back in JB again! ๐
