Hey Everyone,
Once Again, apologies for the Late Post! ๐
Among all the JB Neighbourhood Pages in this Food Blog, I noticed that Taman Pelangi (ๅฝฉ่น่ฑๅญ) is one of the More Frequently Visited. ๐ค Not Surprising really because it is one of the More Popular Suburbs that is Well-Known to Most Singaporeans visiting Johor Bahru. ๐

Just like Taman Melodies, ๐ต๐ถ I thought this particular Taman Neighbourhood is also Beautifully Named.
"Pelangi" means "Rainbow" in Malay and the place basically translates as "Rainbow Garden". ๐
Certainly not a New Place for me, I thought I'd try to find out even More Places to Eat here given how Popular it is for Many Folks on this Food Blog. ๐

Here are some Highlights of the Trip:
(Today have ALOT of Highlights to feature. ๐ Taman Pelangi really have quite a Few Unique Culinary Hidden Gems! ๐ ESPECIALLY for the Last One!) ❤️

First up is ็พฉ่ๆฐด็ฒฟ Ngee Heng Chwee Kueh. Got to know about this from a TikTok Video actually. ๐ฅ Located at Taman Pelangi ๅฝฉ่น่ฑๅญ็พ้ฃไธญๅฟ that I have featured before, it is available in the Morning while the Mini Hawker Centre itself is not yet open.
As you can see, it is actually rather Popular and given it was 8.00am on a Sunday Morning when I visited when "Singaporeans have probably not yet Conquered", ๐ I reckon these Customers are actually Locals. Impressive. ๐

Its really a Mobile Motorcycle Food Stall that sells Kueh with Chwee Kueh being their Signature so I bought a few to try. ๐ Chwee Kueh (Small, 6 Pieces) = RM6.00 (S$2.00) and Radish Kueh (Small) = RM6.00 (S$2.00).
The Radish Kueh was alright decent but not the Haebee type. ๐ค It was indeed their Chwee Kueh that got my attention. ๐ I personally consider our SG Jian Bo Chwee Kueh to be one of the Top Ones, and I feel that THIS Chwee Kueh here won't lose to it. ๐ I'll leave the Details for the Actual Future Review but I'll just say that this is actually a Very Good Chwee Kueh as you can see how Popular it was. ๐ If you have eaten this before, you will probably know what I mean. Good Stuff. ๐
Next up is Uncle Chua's Penang Rojak. Conveniently located just outside the Main Entrance of Plaza Pelangi Mall, this is also another Mobile Motorcycle Food Stall. ๐ One of the Locations I made a Unannounced Visit on a Weekday, as you can see it is also rather Popular among the Locals too! ๐

Priced at RM10.00 (S$3.30) for a Small, this is basically a Fruit Rojak, ๐ nothing special tbh, although this is the First Time I see Mango such a Premium Fruit within. ๐ฅญ What is Special is the Homemade Haeko Rojak Sauce that is lum within. ๐ฏ
Rich, Thick and Not just One Dimensionally Sweet. ๐ฏ๐ Really Not Overly Sweet at a Earthy Robust Level, I find its Quality to be Above Regular Sweet Sweet Type of Rojak Sauce. ๐ Confirm Guarantee this is Homemade. I Really Really like that this is So Not Overly Sweet! ๐ฏ๐

Waffle Delight is another one I seen in a Facebook Reel Promo introduced by a Typical Overly-Enthusiastic Food Influencer ๅนณๅฐ. ๐ ๐ง Basically a Home-Based ไฝๅฎถ type of Eatery, ๐ they do Takeaways only. ๐️ Normal Waffle Mix (Chocolate + Peanut) = RM4.00 (S$1.30) ๐ง Charcoal Durian Waffle = RM6.00 (S$2.00)Now I don't know about you, but I like my Waffles actually Crispy and Crunchy to the Bite. ๐ง๐ค Not the Softer Floppy types that you find in so many Bakeries around. ๐ To achieve a Crispier Bite, what you need to do is to let the Waffle Grill for a Longer Time. ๐ง๐ฅ Obviously Singapore Bakeries wouldn't bother to do it for you. ๐ ♂️ Try requesting this and you will probably get a Death Stare in return. ๐ก๐
Interestingly, I make Waffles myself and even if I let mine grill for long, it NEVER reaches that Crispy and Crunch that I want. ๐ง๐ค Not sure if I need a Better Batter Mix Ratio or is it because my Waffle Iron is those Cheap China Brand type lah cannot deliver the amount of heat needed. ๐ฅ๐ค Hahaha maybe hor? ๐ง๐

The Soul of the Waffle here IS the Crispy Crunchy Biscuity Type. ๐ง๐ Solid Crispy Crunch when you bite it in OMG. ๐ The Amount of Fillings are also Pretty Generous as you can see. They don't use Real Durian however, its more like a Durian Sauce so I do need to set your expectations here. ๐ฏ๐ค
I personally prefer the Chocolate + Peanut Combo ๐ซ๐ฅ myself because it was Creamy and Not Too Sweet. ๐ Unique Location, Actual Crunchy Biscuity Waffle, Friendly ๅคงๅฅ, I can definitely recommend to give this a try. ๐ง๐

The Final Highlight is ่ๅคฉ็ช่้ Restoran Langit Biru. Referred by my Friend Lee Nah through a TikTok Video, ๐ฅ The Signature Dish here is of course Pork Trotter Vinegar ็ช่้ ๐ท๐ฒ which is a Pretty Rare Dish to find in Singapore (and Johor Bahru) ๐ค actually as this is the 1st Time I'm seeing it in JB myself. Hahaha maybe our Resident JB-Food Expert Amelia will know where to find this Dish in JB! ๐
The Dishes I ordered were:
๐ท๐ฒ ๆ็็ช่้ Pork Trotters Vinegar (Small) = RM22.00 (S$7.20)
๐ฟ๐ฒ ไธๆฑคๆฐ้ฒ็ช่ฏๅถ Stewed Potato Leaves (Small) = RM14.00 (S$4.60)

This Eatery itself is Family Run, uniquely only open in the Evenings, and again as you can see is actually very popular with probably the Locals, Not Touristy at all. ๐ Even more Interestingly as you can see in their Menu, they only offer 8 Dishes in Total. ๐๐ค
The Famous Bruce Lee once said: "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." ๐ค
I am going to sound like I'm over-exaggerating here, but THIS Eatery totally embraces this Philosophy completely. ๐ No need to do a Whole Smorgasbord of Dishes when you just need to do 8 Dishes very well. ๐
Just from the 2 Dishes I tasted, there are so much Culinary Effort done, this is basically like eating a ้ ๆฅผ Masterpiece. ❤️ Everything from the Robust Depth and Quality of the Gravy ๐ฒ to the Culinary Effort to Sear the Pork Trotters ๐ฅ๐ท (I have NEVER seen anyone bother to Pre-Sear Pork Trotter Vinegar like this) ๐ท๐ค right to how Creamy Melt in Mouth the Pork Fat made me swoon. ๐ท๐

Culinary aside, I haven't even mention the Absolute Crown Jewel of the Place. ๐ Because I totally couldn't believe my eyes when a Little Boy ๅฐๅผๅผ ๐ฆ who is probably barely 10 years old came up to me and took my order! OMG! ๐ณ
Just Look at Him! ❤️ So Adorably Taking a Notepad ๐ and carefully writing down Everything I said floored me completely. ❤️ And there are No Mistakes even! ๐ณ From a 10 year old Little Boy!!! ๐ฆ SUPER CUTE!!!! ❤️ And Amazing too. Instead of burying his face in a Ipad Tablet like a Typical Kid of his Age, he is out here diligently helping his Family Business. ❤️ What more can I say?
Wise beyond his Years, this Little Boy is really ็็ๅพๆไบ, ็ฅ้็ถๆฏไบฒ่ต้ฑๅนธ่ฆ. ๐ฆ๐ Really the Best Mother's Day Gift for his Mom. ๐คฑ๐ฆ❤️ Of course I went up to this "ๅฐ่ๆฟ" and gave him my Most Sincere Compliment! ๐ฆ๐๐

And of course a Couple of More Places I visited and a Sneak Peak of the Other Dishes I ate! ๐

Below are the Complete List of Eateries I visited if you are interested. ๐
(Again hahaha, I made an Unannounced Surprise Visit Last Week so thats why you are seeing so many of them.
Of course its impossible to eat so many places in just 1 day lah.) ๐

Tune in Tomorrow Monday 11-May where we will continue with More Food Reviews in Johor Kulai ๅคๆฅ!
And as always: Queue? What Queue? ๐

Hi Ryan, Taman Pelangi alot of retired old people, very old taman like Century garden. Some legendary food stall still around since the 80's. This Uncle rojak those day also need to queue, till now still popular. The rojak sauce is homemade cos no other rojak sauce as good as this. The little boss so cute and smart, very well train at young age. For a 10 years old to write order without mistake really thumbs up. I don't eat pig trotters and pork skin cos too fatty. hahaha....So far I have not eaten any black vinegar pig trotter that sold outside. If want to eat I cook at home, I will used pork knuckle mix with lean meat. The skin and fatty part my husband will eat. hahahaha..
ReplyDeleteHey hey! Ya indeed lots of Good Foods to discover despite being a Popular Taman. omg yes about the Rojak Sauce ๐ there is alot of skill and work in it. really another level compared to most other rojak sauces. ๐ I was legit surprise even weekday also got customers, so u can imagine how good this rojak is.
DeleteCute hor the ๅฐ่ๆฟ! ❤️ this Restoran Langit Biru itself really hidden gem. ๐ never seen it mention by any SG Based Food Blogs also. ๐ Truly the sort of place u need to walk walk explore than know. ๐ Shout-out to Tian Xin Lou Dim Sum nearby too, perhaps the 1st dim sum place where staffs actually use Kiap KiP Tongs to handle the dim sum baskets so they don't accidentally touch the dim sums. ๐
