客家擂茶 Hakka Lei Cha = RM9.00

3 Yong Tau Foo Pieces (RM2.00 per item)

No Service Charges

📋 Here is the Full Menu of the Eatery/Restaurant.
Prices are Accurate as of the Date of the Post.

As I did my research on Taman Daya, so apparently this Eatery is considered a Local Favourite and is quite Famous for their Lei Cha. 🌿🤔 Again, located along the Same Row of Shophouses where Gim Cheng Dim Sum is, indeed it seems to be Popular with the Local Folks here. 👍 Because it can be a Tad Crowded, do expect to share seats with others if you are a Solo Diner.

The Place is Not Airconditioned but is Airy. Staffs and Friendly and Welcoming and I thought it was especially cute they play Canto Pop Tunes on their Radio. 🎵🎶 Ordering of Food is Simple. Simply go up to the Counter and Order whatever you want and it will be sent up to you. 👍 You can either pay immediately after the Food is served, or pay after you've finished your meal. It took about 2 Mins for Everything to be served up. Pretty Impressive Timing considering how Crowded it was during that time. 👍

Review of the Available Condiments

🧄🌶️ Garlic Chilli Condiment

If you have eaten Dim Sums in JB before, you will most likely have tasted the Garlicky and Sweetish Garlic Chilli Sauce that they use.

THIS Bottle right here is the Exact Same Taste.
😳 I guess I now finally know what Brand of Chilli Sauce they use. 😅 If you like the taste of this Sauce, this is the Brand I guess.

Dried Chai Poh

Now this is Unique. Served in a Seperate Container, this is meant more for you to add to your Lei Cha Rice. 🍚🤔 This is the First Time I've seen Chai Poh in this Very Dry Form because usually Chai Poh that I know are the Softer Preserved Version. 🤔

This is Intensely Salty, Much Saltier than Regular Soft Soft type of Chai Poh. 🧂🤔 If you are watching your Salt Level, you might want to take care and don't spam too much of this.

客家擂茶 Hakka Lei Cha = RM9.00

🌿 Lei Cha Soup

Dunno is it because I'm now more used to Lei Cha, but this Soup Broth here doesn't taste Overly Herbaceous for me. 🌿😅 It doesn't have that Overly Strong "Grassy Taste" that you'd normally associate with Lei Cha Soup Broth. 🌿🤔
The Broth itself has a Very Savoury Creamy Texture and has a Saltish Savoury Taste Profile that worked for me in a Good Way. 🍲😋 That Classic "Grassy Taste" is still there, but I feel it is very much subdued in this Version and doesn't try to Overpower the Whole Thing. 🌿👍 There is also a Gritty Bitty Texture that will tickle your Throat when you drink this down.

If you are someone who don't like Lei Cha because you feel it is Too Herbaceous, you might actually like this Version. 🌿👍 In fact I feel this may be the Most Not-Herbaceous Lei Cha that I've ever tasted. 😋 Its so Not Herbaceous that this is the First Lei Cha Soup Broth that I have no issues mixing with the Rice Component of this Dish! ❤️

The Rice Component of the Dish

The Rice used in this has a Somewhat Sticky Niam Niam Texture and I thought this was quite clever because it will let the Rest of the Veggie Component stick to it better. 👍
All the Usual Veggies and Nuts that you expect for a Lei Cha are available. 🥬🥜 Mixing everything together gives it a Nice Slightly Salty Taste. With some Sweetness from the Cabbage, 🥬 some Crunch from the Peanuts 🥜 and the Fresh Vegginess from all the Other Veggies 🥬 makes this a Winning Delicious Combo.

Adding abit of that Intensely Salty Chai Poh Condiment enhances the taste even more. If you are watching your Salt Intake, 🧂🤔 I would recommend to NOT sprinkle this Dry Chai Poh as I feel the Default Mix without the Chai Poh is Good Enough. 👍
Lei Cha can be eaten however you like, but the Traditional Method is to Pour that Soup Broth into the Rice Mixture and eat it like a Pseudo Porridge. 🍲 As I mentioned early, this is the FIRST TIME I can mix the Soup Broth with this Rice Mix 🍲🍚  because I feel this is the Level of Herbaceous that I can personally accept. The Grassy Taste never attempts to takeover and dominate the Dish too much. 🌿👍

The Salty Chai Poh especially shows its True Potential when you add it to this Pseudo Porridge Mix. 🧂 The Saltiness it brings further draws your attention away from any Lingering Grassy Taste it still has and gives it a Really Nice Salty Savoury Hit to the Whole Dish. 🌿😋 Wonderfully Executed, this is Perfect! ❤️

3 Yong Tau Foo Pieces (RM2.00 per item)

These were 3 Optional Random YTF Pieces I picked from their Rack to give a try. 🤔 They will lum a Sweetish Sauce over them when served up. While this sauce is not Overly Sweet, if you are watching your Sugar Intake, I would advise to remind them not to lum it. 🤔 Unfortunately, as Wonderfully Executed as the Lei Cha was, I feel the 3 YTF Pieces did not compliment it. 🤔

Personally I feel its the Meat Filling they used. 🍖🤔 It tasted like Ngoh Hiang Meat Filling, but had a Very Overly Intense Level of Meatiness that did not agree with me. 🍖🤔 Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with Ngoh Hiang, but I thought this Version for some reason was Too Much "Ngoh Hiang Jelak-ness" if it makes any sense. 😛

Tofu YTF Piece

The Taste of Tofu is too Mild to stand against the Overly Intense Taste of this Meat Filling. Personally for me, this is Too Jelak to eat. 🍖😛

Brinjal YTF Piece

Other than the Overly Intense Meat Filling, I felt the Brinjal Component is Nice and Soft. 🍆👍 But the Meat Filling still overpowered the Whole Thing and the Brinjal Taste wasn't strong enough to Counter it. 😛

Bittergourd YTF Piece

I felt the Bittergourd Bitterness is Quite Elevated in this one. 👍 And because of this Elevated Bitterness, this is the Only Piece where the Bittergourd taste manage to stand up against the Overly Overpowering Meatiness Assault. 😅

----------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At RM9.00 (S$2.80) for this Lei Cha Set, this was a Very Reasonable Price. The Whole Dish was Executed Very Well and Everything from the Unique Dry Chai Poh Condiment, to the Rice Component 🍚 to even the Soup Broth 🍲 worked in Harmony and Compliment Each Other. 👍
Especially for this Soup Broth, like I mentioned, I like it so much that this is the FIRST TIME I can mix it with the Rice and eat it the True Traditional Way instead of eating them Seperately. 😋

At RM2.00 (S$0.70) per piece for each of the YTF Pieces, it is also a Reasonable Price, but unfortunately, I am not a Fan of this Meat Filling that they used. 🍖🤔 Now don't get me wrong, I must emphasize that there is Nothing Wrong, but something about the taste didn't agree with me as I felt the Meat Mix was abit Too Overpowering Jelak. 🍖🤔 While this Taste isn't for me, I feel someone else may like this more.
Actually im surprised they used a Meat-Based Filling instead of Fish-Based which is more commonly used for YTF. 🤔 Not sure if this is a Traditional Thing or not but it is an Interesting Bold Choice. The Reviewers are right, the Lei Cha here is their True Signature and even I'm surprised that I can actually mix the Soup Broth 🍲 with the Rice 🍚 to eat which I never do. Totally understand why this place seems so Popular with the Local Folks here now. 👍

If you are someone who enjoy Lei Cha and are in Taman Daya, I can recommend this place. 👍 Especially if you don't like Lei Cha due to its Overly Herbaceous Grassy Taste of the Soup Broth, I can definitely recommend this because the Version here is worth to try. 🌿😋

Because this is the 1st Lei Cha that I can actually officially mix the Broth 🍲 with the Rice 🍚 to eat, I'm going to have to give this my Highest Score just for this Achievement. Finally, I have found my Favourite Lei Cha! ❤️🌿
