Arguably the Most Famous Roadside Food Stall in Penang. 🇲🇾😄 Having visited the More Modern Version in JB City Square Mall and always hearing about this Famous Stall, being actually here at the place is a Really Special Feeling! ♥️ In Online Photos about this place, there is always a Very Long Horrific Queue that stretches so long. 😳 Luckily there were No Queues on a Monday Afternoon at around 4.20pm when I was here, although I do see the Queue building up as Time goes on. 🤔 Even so, the Queue never really build up too long, the Line moves relatively fast. 👍

As you can see in the Photos and Video, this really is a Classic Roadside Street Food Vendor with a Team of Staffs and the Somewhat Elderly 大姐 as you can see is the Main Serving Lady. 💁 She is a Main Reason why the Queue moves fast. 👍 Just look at her Awesome Speed Splashing, Sloshing and Slopping the Chendol all over! 💦😳

She's so fast in her Movements it was quite Mesmerising to just stand there watch her Perform. 😅 She was also a Very Jolly Lady with Good Cheer and a Hearty Laugh too! 😄 Sometimes she will crack some Bo Liao Corny Jokes and she and her Staffs will just laugh together with the Customer. 😅

This was especially Amazing because it was quite an Excruciating Hot Afternoon too that day, 🥵 and I am in Complete Awe of her Endurance being able to tahan standing for Long Hours, maintain that Speed of Serving, and still able to maintain a Jolly Happy Demeanor cracking Corny Jokes. 😳 Really not an Easy Job. 👍

It took about 2 Mins of Queueing for me to get mine, which is served in a Plastic Disposable Container. This place is only for Takeaways, 🛍️ there are No Dining In, although you can go to the Kopitiam which is located just beside it to sit down and enjoy the Chendol. 👍 They even have labels specifically allowing the Chendol Customers to come sit there. 👍

Amount of Ingredients definitely feel alot More Generous compared to the one I had in JB City Square Mall. 👍 Same look, its also the Soupy Soupy type of Chendol, not our Singapore Mini Ice Kacang type of pattern.

The Soup is pretty much almost the Same Profile as the one I had in JB City Square Mall which I really liked because it had a Deep and Elegant Undercurrent of Coconut Milk that never felt Overpowering. 🥥😋 Some People are right, there is abit of Saltiness that is actually present. 🧂🤔 The Overall Chendol is Obviously Sweet first and foremost, but its this Very Subtle Salty Tease thats interesting. 🤔

That said, I feel its the Ingredients that really played the Most Important Role here, ESPECIALLY the Red Bean. 🫘 In the JB City Square Version, I mentioned that the amount they gave felt stingy, 感覺好像有一點偷工減料. And I was right. 🤔

Because the Red Bean was Much More Generous here, 🫘 it really contributed to this Version, making each Spoonful have a Very Delightful Red Bean Taste that helps elevate the Already Elegant Tasting Coconut Milk. 🫘😋 This Red Bean was the Big Contributor of why I very much prefer this version compared to the JB City Square Mall version. 👍

The Distinct Classic Green Chendol Jelly Worms were alright, I don't think they taste much different tbh. 🤔 If there were any differences, they must be very subtle because I really couldn't tell. 😅

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM4.70 (S$1.40), this was very much more Cheaper compared to the City Square's Version of RM8.40 (S$2.50). 吓死人, pretty much Double the Price. 😳 Although to be fair, the latter one is located in a Shopping Mall which certainly had a Much Higher Rental Overhead. 🤔 But still...Double the Price really shows how Scary Rentals and Overheads can be. 💵😳

If I were to be very honest, I feel the Base Taste of this Original Version vs the City Square version has a Very Similar Taste Profile. 🤔 I really couldn't tell them apart if you were to let me taste both Chendol Soups together. 😅 The Main Thing that differentiate the 2, is the Noticeable Generous Amount of Ingredients given. 🫘👍

As mentioned, the Red Beans really are the Main Factor why I prefer this one so much more in comparison. Really shiok to eat, no joke. 价钱又比较便宜, 料又给得多, how can I not like this Original Version? ♥️

The Jolly Demeanor of that Main Serving Auntie 💁 and her Bright Personality really shone thru for me with her Good Cheer and Happy Joyous Feel 😄 even though it was really a Very Harsh and Super Hot Environment to work in. 🥵 I can definitely recommend this, because not only will you be visiting this Very Famous Stall, it is also Very Strategically Located next to 2 other Michelin Bib Gourmand Eateries 仁哥炒粿条 Jin Kor Char Kuey Teow and Penang Road Famous Laksa 🍜 that are a Very Short Walk away. 🚶Super Convenient Location to start your own Penang Food Adventure! 🇲🇾😋
