Review Update:
I have since been to the Original Stall in Penang and I was right. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ The Amount of Ingredients given here are Stingier in Comparison. I have since lowered the Review Score as such. ๐Ÿ˜… Please refer to my Penang Review for more details. ๐Ÿ‘

As I'm going to Penang very soon in August 2024, I thought I might as well give this Famous Franchise a Try. ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ˜‹ Apparently the Name of this place is referencing to one of the Most Famous Roadside Street Food Stall in Penang. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ
This is a Relatively Small Modern Eatery located in a Somewhat Ulu Secluded Corner in JB City Square Mall. I think they also have a Branch in Singapore? ๐Ÿค” While I have of course eaten Chendol, I have never eaten from this Particular Franchise before and I have no idea if it is actually related to the Original Roadside Street Food in Penang. ๐Ÿค”
Despite how Ulu its location is in JB City Square Mall, you can see in my Photos just how Popular it is even on a Monday Afternoon when I was there. ๐Ÿ“ท I cannot even begin to imagine how much more Packed and Crowded it will be on Weekends! ๐Ÿ˜…

Chendol is not the only item they sell here, as they also do have some Meals and Finger Foods too.
๐Ÿ˜‹ You just go up to the Counter, order what you want, pay for it and it will be sent to your Table. Staffs are Friendly but mostly keep to themselves.

๐Ÿง Teochew Chendul Original = RM8.40

The Dish was served up quickly in less than 1 Min in quite a Large Bowl. ๐Ÿฅฃ As you can see from the Photo, it is Milky White in Colour with Red Beans, ๐Ÿซ˜ Green Jelly Worms and Shaved Ice. When its all mixed together, it will take on a More Brownish Slushy Colour.

This Version looks very Different when compared to Singapore's Version of Chendol. ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿง Our SG Version is more Solid and looks more like a "Mini Ice-Kacang" while this version is Alot more Soupy. ๐Ÿค”

Because it looks more Soupy, my First Impression was that the Ingredients don't feel like alot.
Probably at most 1 or 2 Tablespoons. ๐Ÿค”

Unlike Singapore's Chendols however, this doesn't taste Overly Sweet. ๐Ÿ‘ I mean obviously it's still Sweet, don't get me wrong, but I felt the Sweetness is Noticeably More Subdued when compared to Singapore's Overly Super Sweet Versions. ๐Ÿ˜…

Ingredients as already mentioned aren't alot.
The Amount of Green Worm Jelly was OK, but I felt it could use more Red Bean. ๐Ÿซ˜๐Ÿค” The Soul of this Penang Chendol however, is its Strong but Elegant Undercurrent of Coconut Milk Base. ๐Ÿฅฅ๐Ÿ˜‹ It is Strong, yet not Overpowering and I love its Undercurrent of Creaminess. Singapore's Version also has a Coconut Milk Taste for sure, but I feel Penang Version felt more Deep and Robust but yet not Overly In Your Face Vulgar. ๐Ÿ‘ The Coconut Milk here never overstayed its Welcome. ๐Ÿฅฅ๐Ÿ‘

It's this Elegant Undercurrent of Coconut Milk Base that impressed me very much and elevated the Dish from a Simple Sweet Dessert to something that felt Deeper in Essence if it makes any sense. ๐Ÿฅฅ๐Ÿ‘ This Level is not something I taste for Singapore version of Chendols. Now I understand why this is Famous. ๐Ÿ‘

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Total Price of RM8.40 (S$2.50), I feel this is Worth the Money to come give this a Try (if you haven't already). ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ‘ No Idea how much this cost in their Singapore Branches, but I'm sure it'll Definitely be alot more Expensive. ๐Ÿ˜…

The Deep and Elegant Undercurrent of Coconut Milk really is the Soul of the Dish. ๐Ÿฅฅ๐Ÿ˜‹ This really is the one that distinguishes it from the other Chendols I've eaten in the past. If only the Ingredients (especially Red Beans) ๐Ÿซ˜๐Ÿค” were abit more Generous, this would have been Perfect.

I love that its Not Overly Sweet although of course this is still not something that I can eat often, so it'll have to be an Occasional Treat for me only. ๐Ÿ˜… If you enjoy eating Chendol, I can definitely recommend this. ๐Ÿ‘ Now that I've tasted it, I am ready to go to Penang to try the Actual Original Roadside Stall! ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ๐Ÿ˜„
