So apparently, this is supposedly a Very Famous and Popular Penang Hokkien Mee Eatery located in Butterworth when I did my Penang Food Research. 🍜🤔 Its a Very Big Place, Nicely Renovated, Cleanly Maintained and is divided into 2 sections, 1 with Aircon ❄️ and interestingly 1 with No Aircon. Of Course Most Customers would prefer to sit at the Cooling and Breezy Aircon side. ❄️😌

Although it wasn't Full House, there were Quite Alot of Customers, 👍 many of whom looked like Locals on a Wednesday Morning at 9.30am. 🌞 The Ordering is via an Online QR Menu, although if you take too long (as I did), a Friendly Staff will actually come over to your Table to check. 😅 If you are unable to order from their QR Code, you can order directly from them too. 👍 They're Friendly and mostly keep to themselves.
The Pork Intestines 🐷 were the 1st to be served up in 2 Mins, followed by the Hokkien Mee 🍜 which took 4 Mins, and finally the Milo-O ☕ that took 5 Mins. Everything was served up in 5 Mins which was quite impressive considering the Amount of Customers that was there.
The Chilli and Garlic Condiments
The Chilli they have here has a Very Robust Deep Taste with also a Heavy Garlic Undertone. 🌶️🧄 Not Sweet at all, doesn't taste like its from a Bottle. 🤔
This is a Familiar Chilli Taste that reminds me of those used in Fried Fishballs for some reason. 🍡😅 I'm pretty sure at some point in your life you will also have tasted this type of Chilli in one way or another. 🌶️🤔 Spicy but Not Super Spicy type, and the Spicy Heat is gentle on your Tongue. 👍 Good Chilli.
The Garlic Condiment is surprisingly Soaked in an Intense Vinegar and is Noticeably Sourish. 🧄🤔 Vinegar is not something I'd expect to pair with Garlic like this. 🤔 Not Bad if you like a Sourish Hit.
☕ Milo-O (Hot) = RM3.50
I originally ordered this because I thought this was a Mix of Milo + Kopi-O. ☕🤔 Its served in a Pretty Small Cup, and has a Strong Smell of Cocoa. In fact this smells more like Hot Chocolate than Milo. 🍫
Unfortunately, this Drink was not what I thought it was. 😅 Its actually a Very Super Gao Gao Milo (Hot Chocolate?). 🍫🤔 Even more Gao than the Usual Milo I think. Has a Deep Robust Cocoa Taste and is Actually Very Sweet from a Super Generous Helping of Condensed Milk.
Due to my Diabetic Condition, I only took a Few Sips and didn't dare drink the Whole Thing. 😅 Confirm Spike Blood Sugar like Crazy. 📈😅 If you enjoy a Rich, Hot and Super Sweet Cocoa Drink however, I reckon this will be up your Alley. ☕👍
🐷 B04 Pork Intestine (Small) = RM5.90
I was initially disappointed when this Pork Intestine Side Dish was served up because the Plate looks Very Small. 🐷🤔 I counted 15 Bite Sized pieces of them. That said, I was impressed with the Very Intense Salty Braised Sauce Aroma that wafted from it. 🍯😋

The Braised Sauce doesn't disappoint. Although it is not the Herbly Type, it is Delightfully Saltish Sweetish, 😋 Not Overly Salty and feels just about right. Texture is Liquidy but has a Niam Niam Taste. Its a Pity they don't sell 卤猪脚 Pork Trotters here, 🐷🤔 because I feel this Braised Sauce would pair beautifully with it. 😋 I did not order their Lobak (Braised Pork Meat) but if this is the Same Sauce they use, I reckon it would pair nicely too.

The Intestines themselves are very Smooth and Tender and when your Teeth bite into them, have a Almost Slippery Texture. 🐷😋 Not at all Overly Porky, I love that they have been Soaked very Well in that Braised Sauce. 🍯👍 The Inner Fillings are Soft and Creamy with No Bitterness. Very Well Made Plate of Intestines and I totally recommend ordering this Side Dish because of what it does to their Hokkien Mee as you will read on. 😋
🍜 A1 Hokkien Mee Soup (Small) (No Addons) (Bihun + Mee) = RM7.00
I'll just go straight to the point. Penang Hokkien Mee taste NOTHING like our Singpore Hokkien Mee. 🤔 If anything, it taste more like our Singapore Soupy Prawn Noodle (Hae Mee). 🤔 Pretty much almost the Same Taste Profile actually.
The Soup Broth here pretty much taste like a Familiar Hae Mee Soup 🦐🍲 and is Predominantly Sweetish with Very Slight Undertone of Spiciness. 🍲🤔 Although the Prawn Taste is not the Super Intense, Super Gao Gao Type, its Presence can certainly still be felt. This is an Above Average Hae Mee Prawn Broth. 👍

Bee Hoon + Mee Combo are what most Penangites will order for this Dish as I checked from a Local. 🍜🤔 They're pretty Standard in Taste, Not Super QQ and Soft and as usual I reckon is from a Package. The Rest of the Ingredients are a Small Spoonful of Haebee Pieces, about 4 Slices of what looks like Pork Loin Meat, 🐷 a Small Quarter of Egg 🥚 and topped with Fried Shallots.
The Pork Loin Meat has a Nice Meaty Chew Texture and I reckon is there to add an Additional Meaty Porky Chewy Dimension to the Dish. 🐷😋 The Whole Dish taste like an Above Average Prawn Noodle Hae Mee Soup with Extra Effort put into it. 🦐🍲 I only wished there were at least abit of Green Garnishing because I thought the Dish looked Overly Saturated Orangey in Appearance. 😅

On its own, I feel this Hokkien Mee taste like a Regular Hae Mee. 🦐🍲🤔 Nice, but nothing Special. Adding that Braised Pork Intestines however Elevates it to a Completely Brand New Level. 🐷😋
This Braised Sauce really is the True Soul of the Dish because it paired so very well with the Prawn Broth and their Combined Taste gave the Superb Braised Saltish Combo to the Dish. 🍯😋

Side Note, adding their Chilli Condiment won't destroy the Dish. 🌶️ In fact, it adds yet another Layer of Deep Spiciness. 🌶️😋 That said though, I would recommend to be more careful about using that Vinegary Garlic Condiment 🧄🤔 as I thought the Sourishness is abit Too Sharp and Intense and may disrupt the Whole Dish. 🤔

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
Overall, i would say on its own, the Hokkien Mee is an Above Average Prawn Noodle Soup. Its Good, but not Amazing.🤔 It reaches its Full Potential and completely transforms the Dish once you add that Braised Intestines together with at Lovely Sauce. 🐷🍯 Amount of Intestines although not alot, was still enough to eat with the Noodles. 一口卤猪肠, 一口虾麵, 吃到几爽一下. 🍜😋

At the Price of RM12.90 (S$3.90) without the Cup of Milo-O, this is Definitely Worth the Money to Try. 👍 Don't forget to order their Pork Intestine Side Dish as it really was a Crucial Game Changer. 🐷😋 I didn't order their Lobak (Braised Pork Meat) but if the Quality of Pork Intestine is anything to go by, I'm sure their Lobak is probably also a Winner. 👍
Its that Beautiful Braised Sauce 灵魂卤水汁 that is the Real Soul of the Dish. 🍯😋 Now I know why this is Popular. Definitely give this a Try if you are around the Area.
