This was an Eatery mentioned by Amelia. The Actual Place is actually a WTM Food Stall located in a Fairly Old Looking Non-Airconditioned Kopitiam called "大马珍记 Da Ma Zheng Kee" that is Airy and Comfortable. There were only 3 Food Stalls of which 2 are in Active, this Wanton Mee Stall and a Vietnamese Stall.
As soon as I stepped in, I was warmly welcomed by the Kopitiam Owner himself who was All Smiles and even offered me 2 Mandarin Oranges since it was CNY Season when I visited. I appreciate this Welcoming Reception. Not Full House with a Few Locals on a Saturday Morning at 7.30am when I was there.

One Adorable Thing I noticed are Small Packs of Nasi Lemak on Every Table for Customers. Something new that I haven't seen done in other Kopitiams.
One thing though I feel this place may have a Fly Issue as I found myself constantly trying to swat the little buggers buzzing around.
The Actual WTM Food Stall's Owner was a Shy and Soft Spoken Polite 大哥. Anyway it took 2 Mins for the Kopi and 7 Mins for both the WTM and Siu Kaw to be served up together. Everything was up within 7 Mins.
Kopi O Kosong = RM2.20
I liked the Robust Bitterness for this one. Although not Super Gao Gao, this one will still gently wake you up.
Earthy Taste Profile with No Siap Siap, this Kopi-O is not bad.

Wantan Mee (Small) = RM8.00
Quality of the Soup and Wantons
Light and 清甜, it seems to be very lightly flavoured with MSG although not too much.
Non-Peppery, Comforting and Slightly Saltish, this was a Classic WTM Soup Taste.
It comes with 3 Baby Small Wantons and the Pork Filling within I thought felt slightly bigger than usual.
Its not Salty nor Overly Porky and was Nicely Soft and Tender to the Bite. Decent Wanton for what it is.

The Few Slices of Char Siew served in these were the Dry Dry type. They don't taste Dry however with a Slight Meatiness that also isn't Overly Sweet. Acceptable but also Average. The Amount of Noodles given was Acceptable for the Price. They were Boiled Nicely with a Nice QQ Bouncy Bite.
Eating Everything together, I thought the Dish was a Tad Oily but has a Decent Nice Flavour. Not 重口味 but also Not Bland. The Spicy adds a Gentle Heat that doesn't bite but maintains a Gentle Lingering Heat in my Mouth. I do recommend getting the Spicy One because even without Soy Sauce or Green Chilli it still tasted good on its own. Adding them will add a Slight Sourish that helps Open your Appetite. Nice.

Sui Kaw Soup = RM9.00
The Soup in this is the Same one given for their WTM. There are 6 Pieces of Sui Kaw given for the Price. The Meat Filling within is Different from their Wanton as it seems to be Noticeably Marinated with a Presence of Sesame Oil and a Slight Crunch of Onion within for Texture.
Large, Tender to the Bite, Not Overly Salty. This was not bad. I appreciate the effort in this as they did not just simply re-use the Meat Filling for Wanton.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM2.20 (S$0.80) was a Decent Price for this Decent Kopi-O.
Although not a Strong Kopi, I liked the Robust Bitterness that gently woke me up nicely in the Morning.
At the Price of RM8.00 (S$2.60), this is also a Very Decent Price for a WTM. What I am more impressed is that this WTM did not need to rely on adding Green Chilli for taste as it tasted Flavourful even without them.
Alot of WTM if you noticed are Too Overly Dependent on Green Chilli. Not saying that those are Wrong, but it is refreshing for a WTM to not rely on them as much. I also liked how QQ Bouncy the Texture of the Noodles.
At the Price of RM9.00 (S$3.00) for a Sui Kaw Soup with 6 Sui Kaws this made them about S$0.50 each which is a Decent Price.
The Sui Kaws themselves were alright and I especially appreciate the effort to marinate them with a Sesame Oil Mix and they did not just re-use the Filling for their Wantons to do this. This is an Actual Sui Kaw, not just a Fatter Wanton so to speak.

Don't let my Average Score deter you. Overall I have no issues with this place. While I won't consider as a Die Die Must Go JB to eat kind of place, I definitely can recommend this if you are nearby Taman Molek.
The Kopitiam Owner is Very Friendly and Welcoming Lad and I appreciate his Cordial Hospitality. He is a Big Reason why I have no issues with this Place. I do hope they can look into the Fly issue that I mentioned though.

Hi Ryan, my son love this WTM, so we practically visit at least 3 to 4 times a month. hahahaha...The Vietnamese stall close already due to she recently serve stale and not fresh fish noodle soup. The chee cheong fun stall also close but this guy is a dim sum guy. In between running his stall if got ad hoc job in Spore dim sum restaurant, he will close his stall. Currently only WTM and one new indian stall.
ReplyDeleteThe flies issue already settle, I told the boss to install ultra violet tube at his shop. But once a while still got 1 or 2 flies which it's quite common.
The WTM boss is considering moving to Bukit Indah or Gelang Patah area. Molek can survive but cannot attract crowd.
Ah oh I see. This is a decent WTM indeed, one of the few that I can enjoy without the need for green chilli. 😋 I do appreciate the distinct difference he made for wanton and sui Kaw and not just re-use same filling. 👍 I'm glad the flies issue is resolved, maybe they were attracted to the nasi Lemak 😅 ya it was quite 冷清清 when I visited, hope he will enjoy better business in his future move. thanks for the recommendation.
DeleteIf you ever go Batu Pahat can try the famous Ah See WTM 亚泗云吞面, this is old school type. They do have frozen pack WTM ( RM4.50 ) and wanton 30pcs RM19.90, I do buy some and keep if freezer. Some frozen stall sell their WTM. Incase curfew still got WTM to eat. hahahahaha....
ReplyDeleteYit Foh WTM at Taman Daya, I long time didn't go cos their wanton not nice and very tiny, more like eating wanton skin.
