This Place should not be Unfamiliar with Singaporeans when it comes to Famous Eateries in JB. Once again, even if you've never been to JB, you will most certainly have at least heard of its name mentioned in the Multiple Food Blogs or Food Influencers. It is basically a Curry Fish Head Eatery located near the Jalan Wong Ah Fook Area, easily walkable from CIQ JB Kastam.

I myself have visited this before back in 2023. Other than an Old Google Review I posted, I had lost all the Photos I took for it, so I figured I'd do a Re-Review of them now 3 years later in 2026. (This Old Google Review itself was quite revealing too as you read on.)

Side Note: There is another Lesser Known but Similarly Named Curry Fish Head nearby called 金玲咖喱鱼头 Kim Loong Curry Fish Head that I have also reviewed previously that is also not bad. And apparently, both Kam Long and Kim Loong are somewhat related.

As for this Kam Long, it is located on the Side of a Road and is a Fairly Large Kopitiam Looking Eatery consisting of both a Aircon and Non-Aircon Area. Of course most people would prefer to sit in Air-Con Side. And because this Place is Really Popular, the Aircon Side was already Full-House even at 10.44am on a Weekday Morning! So you can imagine how Crowded this place would be on Weekends.

I love the Delicious Aroma of Curry Fish Head in the Air. The Staffs are Polite and Friendly. No Issues with Service Level. Anyway it took about 8 Mins for the Dish to be served up.

Curry Fish Head (Small) No Rice = RM32.00

Beautifully Bubbling and Deliciously Appetizing when this was served up, I appreciate the Staff taking the Effort to check that I never order any Rice. This is a Good Effort to check.

Quality of the Curry

Beautifully Creamy with a Gao Gao Level of Lemak Lemak Coconut Milk. Indeed Rich and Creamy. There is an Elevated Level of Saltiness and Noticeable Presence of Spiciness that never truly bites hard but maintains a Soft Gentle Heat in my Throat. I can tell why people enjoy this. Indeed Decently Made.

Of course I dissected the Dish closely as I have always done. It comes with:

Fish Head of course
Lady Fingers
Beancurd Skins
Long Bean
Cabbage

Quality of the Fish Head

No Idea what Fish is used but Half a Fish Head is provided. Meat was Creamy Soft and Clean Tasting with Not Much Fishiness. This was an Improvement from the Last Time I had this back in 2023 where I noted there is a Slight Fishiness.

Soft and Tender this isn't a Very Big Fish Head actually and is Easily Soloable if you got a Decent Healthy Appetite. Nothing special about the Sides and Veggies within as they all taste as Tender Soft as they are supposed to taste like.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM32.00 (S$10.30), the Interesting Thing is, the Current Price in 2026 is actually CHEAPER than the RM33.00 that I paid back in 2023!?!? 😳 I'm so sorry I didn't keep my receipt and lost all my photos during that time and the only reference I have is this Old Google Review I written back then where I clearly stated the Price. 🤔

If I did not record wrongly back than, and if it is really RM33.00 back in 2023, this may be the FIRST Eatery that I have ever eaten that is actually CHEAPER 3 years later. LOL ikr? 😅 Even I was surprised when I did a check when doing this review. Inflation? What Inflation? 😅

Moving on, the Quality of the Fish Head seems to have improved compared as I thought it tasted More Clean with Zero Fishiness compared to 2023 where the one I got was Slight Fishy. Curry is still as Good Tasting and I can understand why this is Popular. Having said that, this is still just a Fish Head Curry, not some Life Changing Experience. Unless you're some Connoisseur, I reckon most people should not have any issues with this quality. I also have no issues with the Service Quality.

What I do recommend is to plan and come early. If the Aircon Side is Full House even at 10.44am on a Weekday Morning when I visited, I can imagine it would be even More Crowded 爆满 during Weekends.

If this place is Full House and if you are still craving for Fish Head Curry, why not give
金玲咖喱鱼头 Kim Loong Curry Fish Head located nearby that I reviewed previously a try too? I personally feel the 2 of them are quite similar in quality.

Hahaha. First time eat at a Restoran (and a Really "Touristy Famous" one at that) that is actually CHEAPER 3 years later.
😅 Am I living in a Wrongly Configured Simulation!? 😅

  1. Alright this Post marks the End of the Food Reviews I've explored in Jalan Tan Hiok Nee / Jalan Wong Ah Fook earlier in the Year. 👍 Amazing Streets, of course I'll be back in the Future to explore even more. 😋

Tune in Next Week 8-June, where I will feature Eateries from JB Taman Molek!
RM10.00 Teochew Porridge Lunch anyone? 😄

  2. Kam Loong is Kim Loong ex partner, they started in the 80's. After 20 plus years they reached the crossroad and decided to split. But Kam Loong Ah Zai become more famous than the original. Guess must be his luck lah. If you have not taste Restaurant Sulam fish head curry at Taman Sentosa, can give it a try. Sulam and Cedar point fish head curry actually taste better.

  3. Hi Ryan, Restaurant Sulam being operating since the 80's, is a chinese owner but no pork no lard. The shophouse is facing main road next to Daiman building. Only the local aware of this old shop.
Running business also depend of individual luck, some sell really nice food but no luck to attract customers. And some are so lucky selling lousy food but long queue.

    1. Thanks. Indeed I've never seen this Sulam name being mentioned when it comes to Curry Fishheads. 🤔 Definitely must go check it out in future. 👍

Agree. sometimes even when all the factors are in place, really no luck means no luck. 😅
