Special Thanks to Amelia for highlighting this RM10.00, 10 Dishes Teochew Porridge Lunch. Having said that, I ate this back in January 2026 and I cannot confirm if this Promo is still available by the time you read this Blog Post.
According to Amelia however, this Promo has been going on for some time already. Before you get all excited to rush down, do check their Official Website to ensure that this RM10.00 Lunch Promo is still available.

About this 金閣樓 Hop Sing Chinese Restaurant
This is basically a Chinese Restaurant 酒楼 located within a Golf Course Resort. Abit out of the way in my opinion, but still reachable via Grab. Decently Furnished as you'd expect from a 酒楼, although the Restoran certainly felt like it has some age to it. Comfortably Air-Conditioned, Cleanly Maintained and a Relatively Large Restoran overall.

There are Some Basic Ground Rules for this Promo:
1) Not including the Porridge, you can only choose a Maximum of 10 Items.
2) I'm sorry I did not check if the Porridge is Free-Flow, so just treat as if you have only 1 Bowl I guess.
3) The Most Interesting Part of this Promo I feel is that you can actually choose 10 of the Same Items. So if you are someone who is out to "Game the System" and get the Most Bang for your Buck, you can choose 10 of their "Fried/Steamed Selar Scad Fish" which I'm going to assume is the Most Expensive Item.

For this Review, I chose 1 Portion of each Different Item (Meat and Fish Selections) to see how much is given for the Portion and of course their Taste and Quality. Please refer to the above Menu Photo. As I timed them, it took them only 6 Mins for ALL of the Dishes to be served up. Nice.
P1 Flavoured Porridge
C4 Fried Ginger Chicken
C2 Steam Chicken with Oyster Sauce
C6 Stir Fried Chicken with Pickle
C11 Kong Poh Chicken
V7 Stir Fried Sambal Kang Kong
B1 Kong Poh Beef
B2 Stir Fried Ginger & Onion Beef
S3 Lemon Crispy Dory
S1 Deep Fried Yellow Tail Scad Fish
S4 Steam Yellow Tail Scad Fish with Black Bean
P1 Flavoured Porridge
For the Main Porridge Carb, you have a Choice of either Plain Porridge or Flavoured Porridge so of course I chose the Later. Flavoured Porridge depends on what is available that day and the one I got was Peanut Porridge.
Amount given for 1 Bowl felt Acceptable. I thought the Peanut Porridge itself was not bad tasting. I could actually taste some Peanuts that were Boiled Soft. The Porridge itself is very Standard Quality, not Boiled until like Ber Quality though. Slightly Salted, this wasn't a Super Amazing Porridge, but its Acceptable.

C4 Fried Ginger Chicken
According to some Google Reviews I read, this is apparently one of their Signatures. 2 Pieces are given for 1 Portion and they weren't Super Fresh Piping Hot off the Wok type. 1 of the Pieces was Slight Meaty while the other one had More Chicken Skin. Tender to the Bite, the Meat was Nothing Special, but it was Alright.
What I was more interested was the Fried Ginger Pieces that came with this. Didn't know that Ginger can be battered up and Fried like this to use like a Garnishing too. Acceptable Choice, although don't expect alot of Meat to be given for this.

C2 Steam Chicken with Oyster Sauce
This one had Noticeably Alot of Meat for the Cut I got. 1 Wing and a Breast Cut. The Zhup they lum over this was an Oyster Sauce that wasn't too Salty. I thought it tasted like the Zhup Mix that you would get with 油菜 actually. Not Bad Tasting. The Meat was Tender, Not Dry although it is Rather Chickeny for my Taste. 鸡味有点重. Personally I think this is just a Simple Boiled Chicken with Oyster Sauce lum all over it. Again nothing Amazing but Acceptable.

C6 Stir Fried Chicken with Pickle
The Amount of Chicken given is Very Small Diced, and Very Small for 1 Portion as you can see. But they do have a Slight Meaty Texture. What I like however are the Pickles which I thought were Super Soft Melt in Mouth Quality. This Dish is Elevated Salty and is meant more to pair with the Porridge.

C11 Kong Poh Chicken
5 Small Piece Cuts for this with an Actually Decent Tasting Kong Poh Flavour and a Slight Spiciness. Tastes like a Typical Cai Fan Kong Poh Chicken with a Slightly Nicer Tasting Sauce. Acceptable.

V7 Stir Fried Sambal Kang Kong
I like the Sambal used in this. It was Salty with a Decent Presence of Haebee. The Kang Kong themselves were Soft and Wet Wet, not slimy at least. The Sambal pairs ok with it. Not Amazing but Acceptable.

B1 Kong Poh Beef
5 Slightly Thick Slices for this, the Beef is actually Tender and Juicy with a Decent Beefy Flavour. Lum with the Same Kong Poh Sauce, this was a Decent Combo and I'm surprised how generous they were the the Slightly Thicker Slices here considering this is Beef.

B2 Stir Fried Ginger & Onion Beef
Basically 薑葱牛肉. 3 Decent Slightly Thick Cuts of Beef that were Well Marinated, Tender and Soft with a Distinct Gingery Flavour. Not Bad Tasting that pairs nicely with Porridge.

S3 Lemon Crispy Dory
The Lemon Based Sweet Zhup was not too sweet with a Decent Lemony Sweetness. Small but Decent Piece, although not Freshly Fried, I appreciate that they didn't cheat by using a Thick Batter as this was Mostly Fish within. Soft and Tender, No Fishiness, this was Acceptable.

S1 Deep Fried Yellow Tail Scad Fish
Scad is also known as Selar. Among all the Items, I'm guessing this is probably the Most Value-Added since its a Whole Fish. Quite a Big Chonky Boy too this one, while Not Freshly Fried, this Fish was surprisingly Meaty and Not Very Boney. Overall had a Decent Fried Taste. I'd compare this to a Similar Type of Fried Whole Fish you'd get from a Cai Fan Stall.

S4 Steam Yellow Tail Scad Fish with Black Bean
Basically a Steamed Version of the Fish, the Black Bean Sauce was not bad. Not Overly Salty or Beany. The Fish I got was a Tad Fishier for some reason, but Meat was still Tender. Meaty with Not Much Bones.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM10.00 (S$3.30) for Porridge and 10 Side Dishes, this is without a doubt an Affordable Lunch Promo. That said, obviously you need to have a Realistic Expectations that each Side-Dish Portion will be Small. Also despite being a 酒楼, the Quality are obviously not going to be Michelin Quality Standard. I'll be honest, all these tasted like a Standard SG Kopitiam Cai Fan standard.
Having said that, this Place still surprised me. Although the Quality isn't Super Amazing, I thought they were above my Initial Expectations. Even More Surprising for me was how Friendly, Polite and Welcoming the Staffs were. They were clear with their Explainations of the Promo and how there weren't any attempts at Upselling other Dishes.

This especially surprised me because I had totally expected this RM10.00 Promo used only as a Sales Tactic to get Customers through the Door only to be "Trapped" in ordering more Premium Items. The Fact they did not do so was Much Respect.
That said though, they still achieved their Objectives because all these Side-Dishes were most certainly "Sample Sizes" of their Regular Menu Dishes. I just appreciated they weren't too Overt in the Upselling that's all.

As mentioned, the Most Interesting Aspect of this Promo is the fact you can order 10 of the Same Dishes. So if you are someone who is more interested to game the system and really must Die Die Gian Png make Every Single Penny worth, you can probably order nothing but 10 of their Fried/Steamed Scad Fish.
Ordering 10 Fishes like this will almost certainly "赚回来" the S$3.30 you paid. As I'm sure ordering the same 10 Fishes in a Singapore Cai Fan Stall will probably bankrupt you or require you to sell a Kidney at least Hahaha! Nobody is going to stop you if you REALLY want to "Earn Back your Money". Just make sure you don't suddenly grow Whiskers at the End of the Meal while you realized you transformed into a Meow though! Hahaha!

Jokes aside, I liked this Place and this RM10.00 was a Decent Price to treat as a Sampler of Dishes in this Restoran. If you keep your Expectations in check and not expect Super High End 酒楼 Standard, I can recommend to give this a try if you are nearby the Area. This was a Filling Meal for me and I enjoyed the Decent Customer Service overall.

Hi Ryan, hahaha.. for me RM10 really worth it cos if cook at home RM10 not enough to buy ingredients. Beside that after makan need to wash so many dishes. That day we went 8 pax, so our table if full of small plates. But for same dishes they put together in 1 or 2 plates. Not 5 stars but ok lah. Not many people aware of this RM10 offer open to public including the local residents.
ReplyDeleteDuring the 90's we went almost every weekend for their unlimited order at RM29.90 per pax. 40 to 50 dishes to choose including venison meat and beef too except for crab, shark fin soup, fresh oyster each table only order 1 time. And usually whole family will join, that's is 3 tables. hahahaha... eat until the restaurant manager also know us. But now no more serve dinner they open until 3pm only.
If RM10 offer still available, I may go this weekend. hihihi....
Hey thanks for the heads-up! 😄 if u never mention it, I also wouldn't know. Yes it seems not many people are aware of this Promo judging from the level of customers I observed. 🤔 Ah so it is an old Restoran with history. Not a promo that is really worth to specifically queue Kastam for, but definitely worth if already near the area. 👍 Thanks for letting us know! 😄
