🐟 Claypot Fish Head (No Rice) = RM60.00No Service Charges
There are No Menu Available at this Eatery/Restaurant.
This was yet another Recommendation from JohorKaki that I wanted to check out. 👍 Its a Tze Char Seafood sort of Place that looks like its been around for many years. 🤔 Run by a Couple, the 1st thing that intrigued me were seeing Rows of Chicken that are Hanged Outside the Entrance to Dry in the Sun as you can see. 🐔🌞
This immediately impressed me because what they are trying to do is actually to Airdry the Chicken Skin in order to get a 脆皮 Crispy Skin Texture. 👍
This Crispy Chicken Dish is also something that most Google Reviewers rave about for this Place and seeing them Airdry like this shows me that they know what they are doing and I can totally understand why this is so Raved. 👍
The Way they Airdry like this shows me that they probably cook in a Very Traditional Old School Way. 👍 I do the same at home when I'm trying to make Roast Duck myself. 🦆
Having said that though, this style of Hanging and Air Drying is usually not done in Singapore, or at least not publicly displayed like this because of Perceived Notions of Hygiene. 🤔 So, if you are someone who is extremely concerned about Hygiene like this, you might want to take note that this Place may not be suitable for you. 🤔
The Interior of the Eatery
When I arrived at 10.00am on a Saturday, there were no other Customers except me. 🤔 The Interior Dining Area again gives me an Impression that his place has been around for Many Years 有年代感. 👍 I'm surprised that that they do have Air-Conditioning within but it wasn't turned on when I was there.
I'm even more impressed and actually appreciated that they bothered to turn Aircon on for me, ❄️ even when I was the Only Customer ordering only 1 Dish from them. 👍 Most other Restorans will probably not have bothered and just ignored me to save money on Aircon Fees, so Kudos to them. 👍

🐟 Claypot Fish Head (No Rice) = RM60.00
THIS is really the Dish that I was aiming for in this Place because of how it was described by JohorKaki. 🤔 They only have 1 Size for this, and because I don't know how big it actually was, I only ordered this in case I couldn't finish. 😅 If not I would have also ordered their Crispy Chicken Dish to try too. 🐔 It took 10 Mins for the Dish to be served up.

The Condiments given for this Dish are a Soy Sauce with Chili Slices and Garlic with Sweet Sauce.
Nothing particularly special, they taste how you'd expect them to taste.
This Claypot Fishhead consists of:
🐟 11 Thick Cut Pieces of Fish Head Meat. (Its not a Full Fish Head, only 1 Side of it.)
🍠 3 Strips of Yam
🥬 Some Lettuce
🍄 2 Small Stalks of Enoki Mushrooms
🫚 Few Slices of Ginger
🍅 Half a Tomato and some Preserved Plum 酸梅 to add abit of Sourish Kick

Amount of Soup and Ingredients in the Actual Claypot Dish
If we count 6 Scoops of Soup using their Metal Ladle for 1 Small Bowl of Soup, there are a Total of 3 Small Bowls worth of Soup given. 🍲 Of course I closely dissected and counted every ingredient within.
🍲 Quality of the Fish Soup
I was instantly impressed when I took my 1st Sip of the Soup. 👍 It was Creamy with a Slight Gritty Texture. Fishy but also Not Too Fishy, just the Right Amount of Fishiness. 🐟 There is also a Faint Sourish Tinge from the Tomato and 酸梅 and a Subtle Presence of Ginger that permeates and never attempts to Overpower anything. 😋

Not at all Spicy, this was a Very Savoury Good to Drink Soup. 😋 As you drink it down, you can feel the Gritty Bitty Bits of Yam that is already Melted into it. This Melted Yam is the Main Reason why this Soup is so Creamy. 🍠 Really Well Balanced Hot Creamy Fish Soup that has all its Ingredients in Check with Everything working in Harmony and Nothing within tried to Upstage or Overpower each other. Excellent Soup! 好汤! 😋
🐟 Quality of the Fish Meat
Despite being a Claypot Fishhead, the Fish Head is not kept Intact Whole but is broken into Pieces which I thought was a Pity as a Whole Fishhead would have been a More Impressive Presentation. 🤔 Having said that, I can also understand why they decided to Cut the Fish up because firstly, it would be easier to eat, and Secondly, it is actually use to Mask the Fact that only Half a Head is used. 🤔 Had they just left Half a Head intact, some Customers may feel that the Amount of Fishhead is Stingy due to the Obvious Half a Head given. 🤔

I would later understand that the Fish they use is either 石斑鱼 (Grouper) or 红斑 (Red Grouper) The Meat tastes Soft and Tender Melt in Mouth Quality. I especially LOVE the Fattier Gelatinous Collagen Parts which disintegrate just like that in my Mouth! 😋 There is some Fishiness but it wasn't Overly Strong. 🐟 In fact the Whole Fish was so Clean Tasting that other than the 1st time I dipped a Piece of Fish into Soy Sauce, I never bothered to dip the Rest of the Fishes and could eat them with Zero Jelak. 😋 That's how Clean Tasting this Fish was for me. 👍

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
Lets address the Biggest Elephant in the Room. The Price of this Dish. 💵🤔
If we don't factor in Currency Exchange Rate, the Price of RM40.00 (S$12.30) which Johorkaki paid in 2016 felt more Palatable compared to Today's 2025 Price of RM60.00 (S$18.50). 💵🤔 Inflation is Scary. I personally feel that this is the Biggest Main Barrier of Entry for this Dish especially because its only Half a Fish Head, not a Full Fish Head for this Price. 🤔
What I am impressed with are the Customer Service. 👍 They were Nice and Friendly and the Fact they bothered to turn on Aircon for me, their Only Customer at that time was Admirable. 👍
I am also impressed with the Overall Quality and Taste of the Dish. 😋 Eating it tells me that Everything was done with Care. From a Culinary Viewpoint, I thought Every Ingredient were specifically Chosen to fulfill its Unique Function to support the Dish on a Whole. 👍 I have even eaten from 2 Places before this palce and yet I can Cleanly Finish Every Single Drop of this Big Claypot Fish Soup is evidence of how much I enjoyed this place. 😋
Actually i feel this will fit 2 People with Normal Appetites or 3 Ladies with Small Appetites or of course just 1 Guy like me also can if you have a Good Hearty Appetite. 😅

But all these Good Points still doesn't deny the fact that the Dish cost RM60.00 (S$18.50) which I feel is definitely on the High Side even as a Singaporean. 🤔 If you consider the Lunch Promo Price of 小李酸菜鱼 Lee’s Signature Fish at RM58.00 (S$17.50) that I ate previously at Aeon Mall Tebrau City which comes with with 19 pieces of Fish, its actually slightly cheaper and is even located in a Modern Airconditioned Mall 🤔 although of course to be fair, it is a Completely Different Style of Preparation. 🤔
If a Modern Mall can provide a Lunch Promo at RM58.00, how can a Kampung Style Eatery like this compete by charging RM60.00 even if its a Different Style of Preparation? 🤔 What I am concerned is the 冷清清 Lack of Customers even at 11.00am on a Saturday Afternoon. 🤔 Not sure if this is considered normal or not, but this was the situation when I was there. Perhaps its the High Price that I mentioned? 🤔
