When it comes to Eateries in Tampoi, this has got to be one of the Most Famous Ones that you will probably have already heard about. 😅 The Actual Eatery is called Restoran Lee Soon.

Its an Old Looking but Big Place that consists of both an Outdoor (Smoking Area) and an Indoor Airconditioned Area ❄️ which of course most people would prefer to sit in. The Aircon wasn't Super Cold when I arrived, but it was still a Relief from the Sun nevertheless. 🌞😅

All the Staffs are Polite, Friendly and keep to themselves. 👍 What I am surprised is that 100% of them all seems to be comprised of Only Foreign Myanmar Staffs. 🤔 Everyone from the Servers, to the Cashier and even the Main Cook. 😳
In fact this 100% Foreign Staffing was so prominent that I even questioned if I had entered a Myanmar or a Malaysian Eatery. 😅 Not sure if the actual Boss/Owner is Myanmar themselves. 🤔 If Malaysian, then He/She must have been very confident to let the Entire Place be run 100% managed by Foreign Staffs like this. 🤔

Despite being a Very Famous Place thats always mentioned in Food Blogs, there weren't any Big Crowds or Long Queue when I was there on a Saturday at 9.30am, 🤔 although there is still a Constant Stream of Local Customers. Surprisingly didn't see any Singaporeans around. Or at least, I didn't see any Singapore Cars. 🤔

How to Order your Food:

1) Secure a Seat first and take note of your Table Number

2) Go up to the Main Cooking Station near the Entrance to order and give them your Table Number.

3) Go back to your Table and wait for your Food to be served up. Proceed to pay at the Casher at the end of your meal.
It took about 8 Mins for my Dish to be served up.

🍜 Wanton Mee (Small, Black Sauce, Spicy) = RM8.00

When it was first served up, I was impressed with how nice it was presented even though it was a Small Bowl. 👍 There is also immediately a Noticeable Aroma of Boiled Chicken wafting from the Soup. 🐔 The Soup itself tastes Chickeney. In fact this is actually a Chicken Soup and tastes like its boiled with Chicken Bones. 🤔 Saltish but not overly so. Using a Chicken Soup like this for a WTM Soup is something Unique and Quite Unconventional because WTM Soups are usually more on the Lighter 清淡 type. 🤔

The Soup itself comes with 3 Small Baby Wantons. 🥟 Skin is Soft and Smooth and the Meat Filling within feels Noticeably Bigger in Portion compared to other Wantons in other WTMs. 😋 Really substantially Bigger and Meatier, the Bite Texture of this Meat Filling also has Noticeable Bounce to it, almost like biting into a Meatball. 😋

Upon biting in, there is an Instant Release of Porkiness although not Overly Porky. Saltish but also Not Overly So. This is an Above Average Tasting Wanton as far as South East Asian Style Wantons go. 👍 I'm impressed that they are generous with the Amount of Meat Fillings within in comparison to other WTM Wantons. 👍

Colourful and Beautifully Presented, the Bowl of Noodles looked small, 🤔 but when I start to mix them up, I thought the Actual Amount of Noodles are actually quite acceptable for the Price. 👍 The Noodles themselves feel like a Slightly Thinner version of Mee Kia. 🍜 Although most likely from a Package, I thought they were boiled well. They're not those Super Bouncy QQ type but just Bouncy enough to still have a Satisfying Bounce when you bite them. 😋

The Soul of this Dish however is the Black Sauce. 🍯 Compared to other Similar Black Sauce WTM, I felt this didn't have the Usual Saltish Taste. 🤔 Instead, what you get is a More Earthy, Slightly Sweet, Slightly Saltish. No Idea what Combination of Sauces they used but there is this ever present Earthy Robustness to it. 😋 The Spicy Version I ordered felt Slightly Elevated although it doesn't bite hard. 🌶️ I thought the Double Combination of this Earthy Black Sauce and Spiciness worked very well in elevating the Noodles themselves. 👍

The Char Siew for this was Unremarkable. 🤔 They are the Thin Thin, Dry Dry Red Colouring Type with a Typical Slight Sweetish. 🤔 Their only function in this Dish is to provide a Slight Meaty Chew. The Pork Lard pieces worked better in injecting a Nice 猪油香味 with a Nice Crisp Crunch. 🐷

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM8.00 (S$2.50) for this Bowl of WTM was a Reasonable and Affordable Price. 👍 I am impressed with them using a Chicken Soup for their WTM which is something Different and Unconventional because WTM Soups are usually very Light compared to this. A Chicken Soup totally works and pairs well for a WTM. 🐔👍
I'm also impressed with the Slightly Larger Amount of Meat Fillings 🍖 they have for their Wantons compared to others. It significantly improved their Bite Texture. 😋

I thought their Noodles was one of the more Earthier, More 重口味 version of WTM that I've tasted. 🍜 Personally I thought it was the Earthy Black Sauce that carried the Dish and formed the Main Taste Profile. 😋 All the other ingredients like the Noodles and Pork Lard Crisps did their job adequately. The only thing I thought didn't work was their Dry Thin Thin Typical Red Colouring type of Char Siew which was Acceptable but also Unremarkable. 🤔

Overall, I thought this was a Unique Take on the Usual WTM Formula that is worth a try, 👍 although I certainly won't queue hours for this. 😅 As I mentioned, what I am surprised is how the Entire Place is 100% run by only Foreign Myanmar Staffs so I'm actually wondering if this is considered a Malaysian WTM or a Myanmar WTM tbh. 🤔 This is the First time I see a Malaysia JB Eatery 100% run by Foreign Staffs like this. 😳
