This was a Very Classic Malay-Styled Restaurant in Angsana Mall. It seemed to be quite a Popular Place on a Saturday with quite a few Customers during Meal Hours. 👍 The Restaurant itself have a rather Unusual Layout though with plenty of Odd Angles. 🤔 It adopts a Brownish Earthy Decor and feels a Tad Warm even though located within a Mall. The Staffs and Friendly, Polite and mostly keep to themselves. Ordering of Food is through Pencil and Paper method. 📝

This Place is Not Well Reviewed on Google Maps however, so I'm here to check if it is really as bad as its claimed. 🤔 It took 2 Mins for the Teh O Kosong, and 9 Mins for the Roti Jala Chicken Curry. Everything was up in 9 Mins. Quite Reasonable Timing for the Amount of Customers when I was there.

923 Teh-O-Kosong Ice = RM4.90

Firstly, I appreciated that they did not add any Sugar as per my Custom Remark in the Order Sheet. 👍 Nothing Particularly Special about it though and I thought it tasted a tad Dilluted actually. 🤔

122 Roti Jala with Chicken Curry = RM14.50

Ordered this because this seems to be the only one Dish that Google Reviewers do actually like for this place. 🤔 When it was first served up, I was impressed with its Presentation and the Delicious Aroma of the Curry wafting from it. 😋 The Dish consists of 2 Main Components, the Curry and of course the Roti Jala.

Quality of the Roti Jala

This is a Type of Kueh Kueh Pancake/Crepe that is made by dripping Dough Batter on a Hot Pan. 🔥 The Result of this is a Beautiful Lacy Patterned Pancake. 🥞  There are 4 Pieces served here and they have a Doughy Aroma. Soft Bite Texture with a Noticeable Saltish Hit. It tastes like a Cross between a Conventional Pancake and a Malay-Styled Kueh Kueh. 松松软软, this was nice and light to eat on its own even without dipping it into their Curry. Decent Taste. 😋

Quality of the Chicken Curry

Served in a Small Bowl, the Colour of the Curry was a Dull Brown with No Oil on top. 🤔 The Amount of Curry didn't look alot and I thought the Overall Presentation looked rather Dull. 🤔 A Sprig of Coriander Leaf for Garnishing would have added alot to its Presentation. 🌿 Having said that, as mentioned this Curry had a Very Delicious Aroma wafting from it that excited me. One whiff of this, you can tell this Curry is Solid. 😋

Upon tasting, I was immediately impressed with an Initial Strong Saltish Hit. 😋 There is a Nice Spice Blend that had a Delicious Savoury Quality to it. I could taste the Very Obvious Presence of Lemongrass and Coconut Milk 🥥 but I liked that they are Very Gentle and Never Too Overpowering. 👍

This is a Very Decent Tasting Malay-Styled Curry that is Not Oily at all. Rich and Robust, yet Gentle and Easy on the Spices and other Ingredients, making it taste Light and Balanced and Never Too 重口味. 😋 The Spiciness is Negligible, almost like Non-Spicy at all.

Within the Curry were 3 Chicken Pieces and 1 Small Potato Cut. 🐔🥔 The Chicken were all Breast Pieces. They were alright although nothing special. Tasted Dry. 🤔 I thought it was a Waste that they gave Small Breast Pieces like this which I felt didn't do this Good Tasting Curry Justice. 🤔

A Nice Drummy or Soft Thigh would have been a Much Better Choice than these Breast Pieces they gave. 🍗 These Breast Pieces were not worthy of being soaked in this Curry because without the Curry, they would have been alot More Lackluster than they are. 🤔
The Potato Piece had a Firmish Bite, not those Cook until Super Soft Soft Tender Type. 🥔 Not my preference for a Potato in a Curry but it is what it is. Acceptable but Unremarkable. 🤔

Eating the Curry with Roti Jala

Now when I dipped the Roti Jala into the Curry to eat it like how its intended to be eaten, I immediately appreciated the Lacy Texture of the Roti Jala. 👍 I've always thought this Lacy Texture is More for Appearance, but in actuality, having a Lacy Texture like this allows More Curry to actually seep into every Crevice Nook and Cranny thoroughly soaking it giving it a Fuller Juicier Bite Full of Curry. 😋

The Good Tasting Curry with this Roti Jala was a Winning Combination for me. 👍 It was quite shiok to eat every bite of this Roti with alot of Curry bursting forth and swimming in my Mouth. Delicious. 😋

Next, I tried pairing the Chicken Breast Pieces with the Roti Jala to eat like a Pseudo Taco 🌮 but it still didn't work because the Dryness of the Chicken simply disrupted the Smooth Harmony of the Roti Jala and that Creamy Curry. 🤔

Pairing the Potato Piece 🥔 with Roti Jala to eat with Curry worked much better
because All 3 Item complemented each other with their Relative Soft Texture and Smoothness to go down much Easier. 👍

To see if the Chicken Breast can still be Salvaged, I next paired them with the Cucumber 🥒 and Onion 🧅 with Roti Jala and Curry and this actually worked.

I thought the Freshness from the Veggies took over and momentarily let you forget how Dry the Chicken was.
😅 This went down much easier.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of RM4.90 (S$1.50) for this Teh-O-Kosong, I didn't think this was particularly that affordable at this price point although to be fair this is an Eatery in the Mall. 🤔 Mainly, I wasn't impressed with that it tasted a Tad Dilluted. Not those Gao Gao Tea Taste type. Skip this. Not Worth to order. 🤔

At the Price of RM14.50 (S$4.50) for this Roti Jala with Curry was a Decent Price to pay for what it is because I feel the Roti Jala and more importantly the Curry was worth the Taste. 👍 The Dish itself worked because this Curry worked for me. 👍 In fact I thought both this Curry and Roti Jala were really the Main Soul of the Dish that carried the Whole Dish. I liked how they complimented each other like this. 🍛

The Only Weakest Link was the Chicken Pieces which I thought disrupted the Dish with its Noticeable Dryness. 🤔 As I mentioned, had they used Thigh or Drummy, this would have been Perfect although of course they would have been Slightly More Expensive Cuts raising the Overall Price of the Dish. 💸 Its always a Challenge to be able to Balance Quality with Price when it comes to F&B Pricing. 🤔

I'm more forgiving towards the Potato Pieces, although I felt they would have contributed more if they had a Longer Time in the Pot with a More Softer Tender Texture. 🤔 But thats just my Personal Preference when it comes to Potato in a Curry. 🍛 If you prefer your Potato to be the Firmer type, you'll probably have no issues with this I reckon.
Overall, I agree with the Google Reviewers on this Dish and I can understand why its not Popular among the Reviews I see for this place. 🤔 I felt the Curry and Roti Jala were both Decent Tasting although I was disappointed with the Dry Chicken 🐔 and Potato Pieces 🥔 for not carrying their Weight to support the Dish.

Having said that, this was an Overall Decent and Comfortable Eatery to dine in and not as bad as how Google Reviewers are making it out to be. 🤔 I can recommend this place, but its not really an Amazing Perfect Place as there are some Noticeable Hits and Misses. 🤔 Overall, I still felt this Dish at least was Decent Tasting and Relatively Affordable. Their Curry was the one that saved this Dish for me.
