I'll be very honest here, Korean-Styled Fried Chicken is not something I'm familiar with or eat often. đ¤ The Only Brand that i've heard of is 4 Fingers in Singapore. đ
So this KyoChon is apparently a Legit Korean Brand that is reputed as "The Most Loved Chicken Brand in Korea" based on several Online Sources that I've read. đŗ No idea if we have a KyoChon in Singapore tbh. I can't find any SG KyoChon on Google Maps.
If you come to City Square Mall via the Main Entrance, this is literally the 1st Eatery that you will immediately see when you go up the Escalator. đ Despite its Most Prominent Position, I've never seen any queues for this place. Not even during Weekends if I remember correctly. đ¤ The Interior feels kindda Small perhaps due to its Unusual Narrow Space. đ¤ I also felt that the Lighting in here feels abit Dim. đ¤

Similar to 4 Fingers, the Whole Place has a "Half-Fast Food, Half Restaurant" feel to it if it makes any sense. Although the Lighting at 4 Fingers felt alot more Brighter for sure. đ¤ The Staffs are Chill, Friendly, Polite and mostly keep to themselves. They are Conversant with English. đ It took 2 Mins for my Glass of Beverage, and 5 Mins for the Main Set Meal. Everything was served up within 5 Mins.
4 Pieces Wingette & Drumette Honey Combo = RM22.50
Consists of:
đ 2 Drumettes + 2 Wingettes (Honey)
đ 1 Bowl of Steamed Rice
đĨ¤ 1 Drink (Coke Zero)
đĨŖ 1 Seaweed Soup
đĨŦ 1 Small Bowl of Sliced Picked Radish

Not knowing what to choose, I just randomly chose this Combo as a Sampler to test. This Combo comes with a Drink and if you are watching your Sugar Intake, the Only Sugar-Free Option they have is Coke Zero. đ I'll be very upfront and say that the Visual Presentation of this Set doesn't look very Appealing. đ¤ In fact when its served up, I thought the Whole Thing looked more like something I'd order from a Typical Korean Stall in a Food Court. đ
đĨŖ Seaweed Soup
This was the Item that strongly gave me a "Food Court Feel" of this Set Meal. đ Its a Slightly Salted Seaweed Soup and totally taste like the type of Typical Soup that you'd normally get from a Regular Faux Korean Food Stall in Singapore. đ
đ Bowl of Steamed Rice
This Bowl of Rice doesn't taste like Standard Jasmine Rice, its also Not the Short Grain Type of įį įąŗ. đ¤ It has a Sticky Texture that Clumps together and has a Noticeable Earthy Sweetness kind of Aftertaste to it. đ¤
No Idea what sort of Rice this is, but it does taste Foreign, or at least not a Common Type of Rice we eat in South-East Asia. đ¤ But its still a White Rice though, other than its slightly different taste, its also nothing particularly special.
đĨŦ 1 Small Bowl of Sliced Picked Radish
I reckon this is considered as the "Banchan" of this Set Meal. đ¤ Banchans are the Staple of Korean Cuisine which are usually Small Portions of Veggie Sides. Similar in Concept to Chinese å°č. This one is a Pickled Radish Slices that is Sourish but not Overly So. If you have eaten Pickled Radish Slices before, this tastes exactly like that. đ¤ Obviously meant as the Palette Cleanser of the Set. Nothing particularly Remarkable for this.
đ 2 Drumettes + 2 Wingettes (Honey)
And now we come to the Main Highlight of the Meal. Amount of Meat doesn't feel like alot. đ¤ Its just 2 Small Drumettes and 2 Wingettes, basically just 2 Chicken Wings without the Tips. They have a Nice Caramelized Aroma and the Thick Sticky Honey Sauce that Coats them is Sweet but Not Overly So. I would describe this as a Nice, Somewhat Roasted type of Sweetness. đ

The Batter is Delightfully Crunchy with a Nice Oily čč Texture. đ Not the Super Drip Oil all over the Place type of Oily, but Noticeably Oily. Maybe the better term to describe it is Oily but not Greasy æ˛ščä¸č ģ. Meat is Hot and Tender Juicy, and the Whole Thing is not at all Spicy. đļ️ I haven't eaten much K-Styled Fried Chicken, but this was Not Bad. đ That said, it eventually got abit Jelak for me due to the Combined Combo of the Oiliness and Sweetness of the Taste. đ The Picked Radish Banchan helped alot in countering with its Sourish Bite.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At a Total Combined Price of RM25.89 (S$7.90), I personally don't feel this is really worth the money because this Set Meal didn't offer much things to eat. đ¤ If you really think about it, other than their Negligible Sides, its basically just 2 Mini Chicken Wings with a Bowl of Rice. đ¤ The Whole Set just gave me a Very Underwhelming sort of Feel. đ
I'll admit the Fried Chicken themselves are Not Bad (even though they did get Jelak), 2 Mini Wings like this though just didn't felt satisfying. đ¤ Pairing them with Rice also felt strange as they felt more like Finger Foods, not something you'd eat with Rice. đ Other than the Chicken Wings, I just can't shake off the feeling that the Rest of the Items in the Set just felt like I'm paying Singapore Price to eat in a Faux Korean Stall at a Food Court. đ¤ I just don't taste any Quality for them at the Price that they're asking if it makes any sense.
Maybe this is the Reason why I hardly to never see any Queues for this Eatery even though its located at what is possibly the Best Location in the Whole of JB City Square Mall. đ¤ Don't let my Score dissuade you from this Place though. If you're in the Mood for some Sweetish Honey Sauced Crispy K-Styled Fried Chicken, I'd say the ones here are not bad. đ But perhaps just don't order this Set that I did and order their Fried Chicken Bundle instead if you are ok with the Price. Have you eaten from this Eatery in JB City Square Mall? I'd love to know how you think of them! đ
