If you're ever in KSL City Mall and walked along the Glutton Street Food Court, you will most likely have seen this Herbal Tea Shop located at the Side.

Like 恭和堂 Koong Woh Tong (henceforth shorted to KWT) that I reviewed previously, this Franchise specializes in Herbal Tea and 龜苓膏 Herbal Jelly. 🤔

The Name of this Franchise is Amusing because "Tan Ngan Lo" is Cantonese and it translates directly to "One-Eyed Chap". 😅
In Google Reviews for this place, apparently there is supposedly a Very Bad Tempered Auntie Staff here, but luckily I didn't get to meet her when I visited. 😅

Instead there is a Middle-Aged Chap who while not Rude, is more interested in watching TV Show on his Mobile Phone than actually serving Customers.
🤔

Like I said, he's not Rude or Unfriendly, but the Customer Service Level here is Noticeably Below Standard compared to KWT. 👎 That said, I did appreciate that he reminded me that the Herbal Tea I ordered is No Sugar which is exactly what I wanted.

單眼佬涼茶 Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Tea (No Sugar, Cold) = RM6.00

Compared to KWT's 廿四味 Ya Sei Mei Herbal Tea, I feel the Bitterness for this is Considerably Milder. 🤔 There is a 苦甜苦甜 Sort of Taste. Personally, I thought this was OK but because its Less Bitter, the Medicinal Dosage in this is perhaps less Effective than KWT's version? 🤔

That said, I feel this is perhaps a Better Herbal Tea to introduce to someone who has never drank any Chinese Bitter Herbal Tea to not scare them off. 😅  Hahaha it is a "Good Training Wheel" before drinking KWT's more Hardcore Bitter Version. 👍

藥製龜苓膏 Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Jelly (Cold Served, Small) = RM12.00

Compared to KWT's Herbal Jelly, while the Price is Cheaper than KWT (RM15.00), the Amount given is also Smaller in a Much Smaller Bowl. 🤔 This comes with a Small Pot of Sweetener which Surprisingly has a Chrysanthemum Floral Taste which is Much Higher Level than KWT's Simple Sugar Water Sweetener. 😳 I think this Tan Ngan Lo's Sweetener can even fight with Hong Kong KWT's Honey Sweetener even due to its Unique Floral Fragrance. 🌸

The Herbal Jelly itself is Soft and I do like this version. The Bitterness is perhaps almost or even On Par with KWT's Level. 👍 Also has a Nice 苦甜苦甜 aftertaste that's not overpowering. Again, even though Bitter, I feel this taste may be Easier and More Acceptable to introduce to someone who has never eaten 龜苓膏 Herbal Jelly before. 👍

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

Below is a Price Comparison between Tan Ngan Lo (TNL) and Koong Woh Tong (KWT)

Tan Ngan Lo 單眼佬 (TNL)

單眼佬涼茶 Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Tea (No Sugar, Cold) = RM6.00

藥製龜苓膏 Tan Ngan Lo Herbal Jelly (Small) = RM12.00

Koong Woh Tong 恭和堂 (KWT)

廿四味 Ya Sei Mei Herbal Tea = RM4.00

药制龟苓膏 Herbal Jelly (Small) = RM15.00

When comparing Herbal Tea 涼茶, there is Completely No Fight. KWT wins hands down because its Cheaper and has a Noticeably Stronger Bitter Taste
(if you equate Stronger Bitterness to more Medicinal Potency.) 🤔 I'm no Medical Expert so I cannot comment whether More Bitter = More Potent tbh. But KWT is Cheaper so thats already a Clear Win. 👍

When comparing Herbal Jelly 龟苓膏, as mentioned TNL Price is cheaper, but Amount is also Noticeably Lesser than KWT version. 🤔 Taste-wise I feel is similar or on-par with KWT, although this one may be more Acceptable for Newbies. The Only Thing that TNL wins over KWT significantly is their Better Quality Floral Sweetener. 🌸

Overall, I still find Koong Woh Tong 恭和堂 a Better Value because I feel their Service Level is Just More Professional than this place. 👍 KWT also has a more Established and Atas Medicine Hall Sort of Feel for their Outlets, while this place feels more like a Knockoff in Comparison. 😅

Although I would like to say this place can visit after a Shopping Trip in KSL, there is actually a Koong Woh Tong 恭和堂 Outlet in KSL City Mall too, so I feel you're better off going there for a Better Value and Service. 👍 I reckon the only reason why you would want to come here is if KWT is Too Crowded actually. 😅
Have you eaten from this Tan Ngan Lo 單眼佬 before? I'd love to know how you feel about it, especially when compared to Koong Woh Tong 恭和堂. 🤔
