Coming here was a Heartbreaking Feeling for me, 😔💔 because this was the Former Location of 品味億家 Yi Jia Taste, which had the Softest Most Tender Soya Sauce Chicken that I always visited whenever I'm here in KSL City Mall. 😔 Seeing this New Restaurant take over its place really gave me many Mixed Feelings.

This Empurau is another Modern Kopitiam specializing in a Wide Variety of Local Foods. Nicely Renovated and Cleanly Maintained, it was quite Crowded at 4.02pm on a Friday Evening but I could still easily find a Seat. 👍 The Staffs are Friendly and Polite and keep to themselves. The Place felt abit Warm despite it being inside a Mall, but it was still ok.

Ordering of Food is thru their Online QR Menu or you can order thru the Staffs if you don't have Internet Access. 👍 I don't think this place has Free WIFI. At least I didn't see any signs indicating they do. 🤔 So in Google Reviews, apparently their Hainanese Chicken Rice is pretty well received. So is their Curry Puff. It took a Total of 6 Mins and they were all served up together. Quite Impressive Timing considering the Amount of People when I was there. 👍

B03 南洋咖啡乌 Nanyang Kopi-O Gao Kosong (Hot) = RM5.80

This came in a Small Cup and was Hot and Fresh. ☕ In the QR Menu, you can have the Option to Choose Gao option and it does feel quite Strong and Gao can wake you up, although not the Super Strong Type. I liked that there are not much Siap Siap Bitter Aftertaste to this. 👍 Overall a Smooth and Decent Coffee. Not Bad Tasting.

P02 咖喱角 Curry Puff = RM3.80 each

The Outer Appearance of this Curry Puff has a Series of Striations although I thought it also looked Dull and Doughy. 🤔 Compared to some other Curry Puffs that does this same Series of Striations, I thought this one lose abit. 🤔 The Size is about the Size of a Regular Curry Puff. The Bitefeel of the Pastry had a Nice Soft Biscuity Flaky Feel. Its nowhere near Old Chang Kee type of Flaky but it is still a Decent Flaky Crust nevertheless. 👍

The Curry Filling tasted Conventionally Savoury, luckily not the Sweetish Type that I don't like. 😅 Not Piping Hot but Warm, Soft and Creamy with a Slightly Elevated Spiciness that will linger abit on your Tongue. 🌶️ Certainly Spicier than Old Chang Kee thats for sure. There is also a Quarter Egg within. 🥚 Very Decent and Acceptable Potato-Based Curry Puff Filling that I reckon will appeal to most People. 👍 Overall I feel while this is not as Super Amazing as how some Reviewers described this, this is still a Decent Tasting Curry Puff.

That said, because of how Doughy and Duller looking the Series of Striations on this Curry Puff looked, I can't help but feel that this is not Made In-House and is from some Supplier somewhere. 🤔 Just have this feeling thats all.

C15 白鸡腿便当饭 Poached Chicken Drumstick Bento = RM13.80

I thought it was Slightly Amusing that they called this a "Bento" when Chicken Rice is never referred to as such. 😅 I had thought they would perhaps plate it Japanese "Jubako Style", but its plated just like a Regular Chicken Rice. I would have scored them higher for Creativity had they really done that. 😅

The Chicken Soup was Decent, not Diluted and has a Nice Chickeny Taste. 😋 That said I found this to be Quite Salty. I did detect some MSG or Chicken Seasoning Powder used but its not overly intrusive. There is also a Faint Presence of White Pepper Aftertaste. The Chilli is Sourish with a Slightly Higher Level of Spicy Bite that slowly creeps up on you. 🌶️ Its not the Super Fierce Stabbing type of Spiciness. Very Decent and Acceptable Sourish type of Chilli for Chicken Rice. 👍

Missing Condiments and an Amusing Question from the Staff

One thing noticeably Missing are Dark Soy Sauce and Minced Ginger. 🤔 You need to request for Dark Soy Sauce seperately from the Staff which I found a Tad Strange. 🤔 As for Minced Ginger when I asked for it, she actually asked me "What type of Minced Ginger?" 😅 Hahaha eat Chicken Rice got other type of Minced Ginger one meh? Upon hearing this, I just smiled and say "It's Ok" and didn't bother to ask further anymore. 😅

A Chicken Rice Specialty Shop will NOT ask such a Question. "What type of Minced Ginger?" indeed. 😅 This tells me that this place really is more of a Jack of all Trades and is not Specialized in anything. 🤔 This is something you need to be aware if you are thinking of eating Chicken Rice here.

The Actual Chicken Rice

When this was served up, I was immediately impressed with the Amount of Rice given. 👍 The Amount did not feel Stingy and actually feels like it may be Filling. 👍 The Dish gives off a Freshly Chopped Chicken type of Appetizing Aroma. 😋 Rice is towards a Softer type, abit Sticky but still ok. Doesn't have a particularly strong 油香味 but it is present although not the Super Gao Gao type. This was a Decent Tasting Rice. 🍚

The Chicken Meat itself has some Quality although it ain't the Best of the Best type. Its not Overly Chickeny and has a Fresh Taste. 😋 The Major Bones are removed but its Not Totally Boneless. It does have some Small Globules of Oil under its skin, although its not those type of Super Watery Smooth 水汪汪 type of standard. Not a Super Fatty Obese Chicken but this Chicken is certainly still Overweight hahaha! 😅

Personally I feel 品味億家 Yi Jia Taste that used to be here still did a Smoother Tasting Chicken in Comparison although to be fair that was Soya Chicken. 🤔

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

RM13.80 (S$4.20) for a Chicken Drummy Rice I feel is only slightly cheaper than Singapore. 🤔 Personally, I don't feel the version here is particularly special to specifically come JB to eat. And from the way the Staff asked me about what Minced Ginger, they are also not a Chicken Rice Specialty Place. 🤔 This is a Decent Chicken Rice that I feel is perhaps around SG Kopitiam Level.

The Curry Puff at RM3.80 (S$1.20) is likewise the same. Certainly Cheaper than Old Chang Kee, but also not by much. 🤔 Acceptable and Decent but not Super Amazing Die Die must come eat.

Overall, this Whole Place felt like a Decent and More Affordable Version of the Same Dishes you can get in Singapore. 🤔 Nothing here screams at me to come back to eat, so as such I will score this an Average. 🤔 And again, Average doesn't mean that I don't like this place. I personally feel its an Affordable and Decent enough eatery to rest and perhaps enjoy a Simple Meal or sip some Beverages and Chit Chat after a Jalan Jalan Shopping Trip in KSL. 🛍️
