胡椒餅 or Pepper Bun is an Iconic Taiwanese Snack that is especially Popular in Night Markets. 😋 I've personally never tasted it before 😅 so when I saw this place, I thought I'd give it a try. 👍

Really Random Place that I passed by, I was initially daunted by the Long Queue 😳 but as I had time to spare, I why not just give it a try. 😅 The Queue was an Interesting Mix of Foreign Tourists but also quite alot of Local Taiwanese too. 🤔 It was a 22 Mins Queue, but I didn't really mind since it was a Cool 18C Weather. ❄️

It was Really Just a Small Corner Shop with a Bunch of Staffs within busy Kneading Dough and Baking the Pepper Buns in a Specialized Deep Stone Oven 🔥 that is specially made to bake this Particular Pastry as you can see from the Photo the Friendly Owner allowed me to take. 📷

The Pepper Buns are Plastered on the Side Walls of this Oven and left to Bake. 🔥 Abit like how Indian Chapati or Naan are Traditionally Made. 🔥 I also ordered their 烤地瓜 Baked Sweet Potatoes to give them a try. 🍠
🍞 胡椒餅 Taiwanese Pepper Bun = TWD50 Each

Freshly Baked from the Oven, this has a Hard Biscuity Shell with a Soft Doughy and Moist Inside. 🤔 This Pastry Dough has a Slightly Sweetish Taste to it, and taste very Similar to Most Chinese Pastry of this type. 😋

The Inside Filling is a Big Block of Meat. 🍖 Although its made of Pork, 🐷 the Bite Texture tastes More like Chicken Thigh. 🐔 I reckon this is because its Taiwan Pork which actually taste like Chicken. 😅 The Meat is Slightly Sweetish and despite its Name, is only Slightly Peppery, not Super Peppery. There is a Copious Amount of Scallion Slices within.

Eating Everything Together is exactly how you'd imagine this thing to taste. 🤔  The Crunch from the Outer Pastry Shell followed by a Meat Filling 🐷 that has the Texture of a Chicken Thigh that tastes Sweetish, Slightly Peppery, followed by Occasional Fresh Bursts of Veggie 🥬 from the Scallion Slices.

This was Decent for the 1st few Bites, but I personally found the Meatiness abit too much Jelakness the more I ate, and couldn't finish the Whole Thing. 😅

🍠 烤地瓜 Baked Sweet Potato = TWD50 Each

This basically tastes exactly the same as the Type of Sweet Potato that you'd buy from Don Don Donki, 🍠 except that the Sweet Potato Meat here is Yellow. I believe Donki's Version is Purple? 🤔  Steaming Boiling Hot 🔥 the Sweetness is this is as Sweet as you'd expect from a Sweet Potato. 🍠 If you like Donki's Version of Baked Sweet Potato, you'll enjoy this too. Very Filling. 👍

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of TWD50 (S$2.10) for the 胡椒餅 Taiwanese Pepper Bun, 🍞 this is Affordable for what it is. For this Price, you get a Huge Pastry with a Big Fat Meatball within. 🍖

As I mentioned, this tasted Delicious for the 1st Few Bites, 😋  but I eventually got too Jelak by the Sweetish Meatball and couldn't finish the Whole Thing. 😅

Neither the Pepper nor the Scallion Slices could help dampen the Meatiness of this Meatball. 🤔 I'm personally not a Fan of this 胡椒餅 myself, although I'm sure there will be someone else who will enjoy this more than I do. 👍

At the Price of TWD50 (S$2.10) for the 烤地瓜 Baked Sweet Potato, 🍠 I think this is an Affordable Price compared to Donki's Version? 🤔 Can't remember how much it cost in Donki.

The One sold here certainly felt Bigger though, I think at least 2 Times Bigger. As I like Baked Sweet Potato, I enjoyed this one. 😋 Eating this was a Relief from the Overly Jelak 胡椒餅. 😅 If you enjoy Donki's type of Baked Sweet Potato, you'll probably enjoy this one too. 👍

Decent Place, and although 胡椒餅 is not something I would try again, I can totally understand the Appeal of Eating a Big Hot Meat Pastry 🍖 or 烤地瓜 🍠 in a Cool 18C Weather. ❄️ Eating something Hot like this can really Warm you up Snuggly. 🔥
That said, 胡椒餅 🍞 and 烤地瓜 🍠 are Common Taiwanese Food and can be found Everywhere so you don't have to really come to this Particular Shop. 🤔 I'm giving this an Average because I don't feel the Food was really worth a 22 Mins Queue tbh. 🤔

Don't let my Average Score deter you from this Place though because there is Nothing Wrong with it and the Staffs were Polite. 👍 I guess I'm just not a Fan of 胡椒餅 and the 22 Mins of Queue for it that's all. 🤔
