火雞肉飯 or Turkey Rice is a Unique Taiwanese Cuisine that is a Specialty from Chiayi County 嘉義縣 in Central Taiwan that we seldom see in Singapore or Malaysia. 🤔 (Image Credit: Google Maps)

The Dish is exactly what it's name suggests. Its Shreds of Turkey Meat 🦃 piled on a Bowl of Rice 🍚 with a Sauce thats lum over it. 🍯 Abit like the Classic Taiwanese 卤肉饭 Braised Pork Rice except it uses Turkey Meat instead of Braised Pork.

This Franchise that I'm in has Several Outlets all over Taipei. Never eaten this before, so I thought I'd give it a try. 🤔

Interior of the Eatery

Located at the Corner of a Street, This was a Fairly Large Eatery although with only Few Tables for Dining In. There weren't much Customers when I was there at around 4.00pm on a Weekday. 🕑

It is Air-Conditioned and Cleanly Maintained, but for some reason I thought have a Strong Pungent Smell when I entered. 🤔 It's not Smelly, but it was a Really Strange Smell. 🤔 I don't know if its a Food Ingredient Smell or what, but it does smell like something Chemical. 🤔 The Other Customers don't seem to mind it though.

The Staffs within are Polite and Friendly and I thought it was Adorable that their Food Items are hung in Vertical Rectangular Wooden Plates like how you'd normally see in a Japanese Eatery, 🇯🇵 except that its Chinese Words Written instead of Japanese. 😅

Order and Pay at the Counter and Wait for it. 💵 Once its ready, the Staff will call out. It was served up quickly in 1 Min.

Presentation-wise, I was a Little Disappointed to see such a Small Bowl of Rice tbh. 🤔 To be fair, I did order the Small Version. Really Very Small, I think the Amount of Rice is at most about 5 Tablespoons? 😅 It does have a Nice Sesame Oil sort of Savoury Aroma to it. There were about maybe Half a Turkey Breast 🦃 worth of Shredded Meat on top lum with some Light Gravy.

The Rice used here is certainly Taiwan Pearl Rice 珍珠米 🍚 which have a Nice Soft Texture that you can pick up easily with a Chopstick. 🥢 The Braised Sauce that they lum tastes Savoury Saltish but also Not Overly Saltish. I reckon its a Mix of Sesame Oil and Soy Sauce and probably some Turkey Oil. 🦃 Very 开味, I thought it Paired Nicely with the Rice.

The Amount of Turkey Meat Slices aren't alot but just enough for the Amount of Rice given. 🍚 They're Breast Meat, Meaty, Moist and Juicy. 😋 Even though it really looks like Chicken Breast, it doesn't taste like Chicken at all because this is Turkey. 🦃 Turkey Meat itself has a Very Neutral Poultry Taste.

The Soul of this Entire Dish is definitely the Savoury Braise Sauce. 😋 It basically carries the Entire Dish and is Responsible for the Main Taste Profile for Everything since the Rice and Turkey are Very Neutral Tasting. 🦃🍚

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts

At the Price of TWD45 (S$1.90) doesn't feel Very Affordable for the Amount of Rice given. 🍚🤔 It's not Super Expensive, but also doesn't feel Super Affordable. Its basically a Very Simple Dish of 🍚 Rice + 🦃 Turkey Meat lum with a Braised Savoury Saltish Sauce.

Actually this Dish is Very Similar to Taiwan Braised Pork Rice 卤肉饭 except that Turkey 🦃 is used instead of Braised Pork. 🐷 Again, like I mentioned in my Previous 卤肉饭 Review, this is not a Very Sophisticated Dish and feels like it was invented in the Past as a "Poor People Meal" 🤔 where people in the Past probably just buy just abit of Meat to pair with Rice and flavoured with a Sauce. Simple, Warm and Comforting to fill up the Belly.

Other Customers I see in the Eatery order Side Dishes to eat with this so I guess this is how its supposed to be Eaten? 🤔  Very Basic Simple Dish. If you enjoy eating Taiwanese 卤肉饭, you will most likely have no issues with this too if you are ok with the Price. 🤔 Personally for me, this feels like a Dish that you'd eat just once just to see how it actually tastes.

Decent Eatery, the Staffs are Polite and Friendly, but I just can't get over the Strange Chemical Smell in this Eatery when I entered, although it does lessen the longer you're here. 🤔
