๐ Chaah Wantan Noodles (Soup, Small) = RM9.50No Service Charges
Prices are Accurate as of the Date of the Post.

This was a Eatery I specifically marked for my Visit based on Amelia's Recommendation. According to her, she finds it "So So Only". ๐ค That said, I was also interested in a More Positive Google Reviewer's Post who wrote:
"This noodles house is special because they make their own ็ซนๅ้ข. I like their chaah noodles for my wanton noodles as their noodles are slightly thicker which give a slightly harder, fuller and more springy texture."
Never heard of this "็ซนๅ้ข" before, ๐๐ค but I love Eateries that Handmake their Own Noodles so I thought I'd give it a try. ๐

Located in a Row of Shophouses in a Quiet Part of Taman Daya, I was quite surprised to see Quite alot of Local Customers on a Saturday Morning at around 9.00am. ๐ค Impressive. The Eatery itself looks like it has some Age although it looked like its renovated to look abit More Modern. I'm even more surprised that the Place is Air-Conditioned even though it utilizes an Open Concept Style. Quite Cooling too. ๐ฌ️๐

Music Background they played here were some Soft Piano Instrumentals. ๐ต๐ถ From how they structure their Menu and how they renovated the Place, it looks very much like this Place started off as a Kopitiam but wants to Evolve to become a More Modern Kopitiam Franchise in the Future. ๐ค (Eg: Tea Garden, Hock Kee, Oriental Kopi etc) At least that was the Impression I got. The Owner is a Friendly and Spirited Young Chinese Lad in his Late 20s that looks like he has been hitting the Gym Regularly. ๐️♂️๐ The Rest of the Myanmar Staffs were Polite and Mostly Kept to Themselves. It took about 6 Mins for the Dish to be served up.
๐ Chaah Wantan Noodles (Soup, Small) = RM9.50
I was immediately impressed with the Presentation of the Dish. ๐ Although a Relatively Small Bowl, I thought the Presentation ๅ็ธ looked Humbly Beautiful and Appetizing. ๐ There was a Fragrant Aroma of Shallots. ๐
The Dish itself comes with:
๐ Noodles of Course
๐ท 10 Small Thin Slices of Char Siew
๐ฅ 3 Small Baby Wantons
๐ฅฌ Some Pieces of Choy Sum Veggies
๐ Hidden deep within the Bowl was a Layer of Bak Chor

๐ฒ Quality of the Soup Broth
Very Light in Taste but Not Bland. Not Alkaliney, Slightly Savoury, Faintly Meaty and Not Salty. I also did not detect any MSG used. Or if it was used, it must have been Very Little. ๐ For some reason, I really like this Light and Clean Tasting Soup. ๐
๐ Quality of the Noodles
Not sure if this is the "็ซนๅ้ข" that the Google Reviewer mentioned. ๐๐ค In fact the word "็ซนๅ้ข" is actually never mentioned in their Menu from what I see. Slightly Thicker than an Average Mee Kia, they do have a ๆๅทฅ Handmade Taste to them. ๐ The Texture is Mostly Soft and Tender with a Very Slight Bounce that easily slides down my Throat. Not Bad Tasting. ๐ Amount of Noodles feels Reasonable and Filling for the Price.

๐ท Quality of the Char Siew
Cut Very Thinly, these didn't taste Very Sweet and were Slightly Saltish. There is a Noticeable Porkiness but also Not Overly So. ๐ท What this does is give a More Natural ๅๅณ Porky Meaty Chew to the Dish. ๐ท๐

๐ฅ Quality of the Wantons
Not as Baby Small as Regular Wantons, they were abit Long in Shape. I like the Delicate Fold Patterns it had making it look more like a ๆฐด้ฅบ than a ไบๅ. ๐ Meat Filling within was Soft to the Bite, Not Overly Porky with a Prominent Hit of Pepperiness. ๐ Wanton Skin was Soft and Smooth. Pretty Decent Tasting.

๐ฅฌ Quality of the Choy Sum Veggies
Nothing Particularly Special about these, they weren't Crunchy though with a Softer Bite Texture.
๐ Quality of the Bak Chor
I was surprised to find these hidden Deep within the Bowl which tells me that their Main Function is to Flavour the Soup which was the Slight Meatiness that I tasted. ๐ฒ๐ค The Bak Chor themselves were Soft and Tender and Not Overly Porky.
The Whole Dish has a Very Light, Very Gentle Taste Profile to it. ๐ Not at all ้ๅฃๅณ, its not like those Oily Oily type of WTM. Everything in this Dish worked well together and Nothing Clashed. ๐ This is the Sort of Light, Hot Soup Noodle that is Perfect to eat as Breakfast to gently wake up your Tummy without stressing it too much. ๐๐

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
At the Price of RM9.50 (S$3.00), this felt like a Reasonable Price for this Light Tasting but Filling Bowl of Wanton Mee. ๐๐ I liked the Amount of Noodles given which felt noticeably more generous and filling for the Price. ๐ It never felt too much or too little for me and felt just right especially if eaten as a Breakfast.

Really Light Tasting Dish, Not Heavy or Oily, Nothing in this is ้ๅฃๅณ at all. ๐ This was a Very Gentle Noodle Dish that feels like the Perfect Meal to Gently Wake up your Tummy for Breakfast without stressing it too much. ๐ Having said that, I can also understand why Amelia felt this was So So because for Folks with a Preference for more Heavier Taste, this might taste Bland. ๐ค But for me, I felt this was just nice especially as a Breakfast.
I personally have no issues with this place. Staffs were Friendly and the Young Owner was a Very Friendly Spirited Chap. ๐ This was a Decent Bowl of Noodles that didn't feel Stingy for the Price and the Taste ้ๅๆ็ๅฃๅณ. ๐๐ If you are nearby the Area, I can recommend this if you're looking for a Light and Gentle Breakfast to kickstart your Day.

During the 70's, our family hardware shop is at Cha'ah. Last time this Cha'ah noodles was just a small stalls. The grandfather used the long bamboo pole to knead and stretch the dough. But the noodles now not as good as during the 70's. Last I had curry noodles after that lau sai, so never go back again.
ReplyDeleteoh i see. so this is what "็ซนๅ้ข" means. Sounds like a very traditional method. ๐ค so interesting you actually have a sorta history with this place too. ๐ oh no wonder u didn't go back again after u tio. ok la i enjoyed this bowl, something about its Appearance and Presentation ๅ็ธ just gave me a very Humble and Comforting look the moment i laid eyes on it. ๐
DeleteI personally liked how Gentle Tasting it was to eat on a Morning. I also thought the Technique of hiding the Bak Chor deep inside the Noodles was Interesting too. ๐
Hi Ryan, good morning. This ็ซนๅ้ข origin from Southern China and HK. Those days used duck eggs but now not sure if use chicken or duck eggs. This bamboo method also dying off already, so far here only at Cha'ah noodle and one in KL Resturant Fun Kee Bamboo Noodle. If big volume sound impossible to use bamboo cos it's time consuming. Now maybe use machine but keep the name ็ซนๅ้ข. hihihihi Next time if go back I will avoid the curry noodle.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Trivia. ๐ Ya makes sense such traditional method not feasible for a modern eatery. ๐ค Hahaha your Taman Daya very ๅง่่้พ lots of nice eats. ๐
DeleteThat's why Taman Daya weekend heavy traffic. hahaha...Beside Gim Cheng, the empty land now turn into indoor swimming pool, just open recently. Taman Daya main road have to cater to so many new housing estate. If weekdays morning and evening, the jam sometime really havoc especially from Taman Daya to Eco Palladium 5km distance may take 45 mins to 1 hour especially evening. This is legendary at Kampong Pandan ็ญ่ญ็พ่้ข & ็ญ่ญๆตทๅ็ๆฆ้ธก้ฅญ, opposite Yeop Hiap Seng factory. Restaurant is not visible from roadside, it's hidden behind the old shop.
ReplyDeleteNice. ๐ I definitely needs to visit this Legendary Pandan Mutton soup someday. Interesting there is a indoor swimming pool now. I certainly won't mind going for a nice dip! ๐♂️
