This Roasted Franchise can be seen all over JB, and the one i'm visiting is the one at KSL City Mall. 🤔
According to JohorKaki, the Owner used to be an Apprentice at the Famous Ya Wang
during his Teens and opened his First Shop in Johor Jaya in 2003. 🤔
The Outlet in KSL City Mall is Beautifully Furnished as a Chinese Restaurant. Not as Crowded as D' Shanghai next door but also still got quite a few people on a Weekday. 👍 For some reason, this place also didn't have its Aircon working, so it was also Hot and Stuffy. 🥵 (Maybe the Centralized Aircon in KSL was spoilt that day?)
The Staffs were Polite and Professional and there is an interesting story about them which I will discuss later. 👍 As I wanted to get a Sampler Taste of the Roasted Meats, I ordered their Small Platter which is supposedly meant for 2-3 People. As this Restaurant focus on Roasted Meats, I will use You Kee XO Restaurant that I reviewed previously in the Same KSL City Mall to also do a Comparison. 👍

Consists of 🦆 Roast Duck, 🐷 Roast Pork and 🍖 Char Siew
And its not only just the Porcelain Dish itself, you can plainly see how much More Effort Meng Meng goes into Cutting and arranging the Meats. 🤔
If you do a comparison between Meng Meng and You Kee, its like You Kee doesn't even bother. 😅 This here, is a High Class Restaurant Standard Presentation and Plating.
The first thing I noticed is that the Danggui Taste of the Sauce is Strong. 👍 Herbly and Sharply Salty, this is an Amazing Sauce itself to lum all over the Meats. 😋 I also like that they give some Braised Peanuts here too. Soft and Mushy, their main job is to help relieve abit of Flavour Fatigue from too much Meat. 🥜😋
The Chilli is Super Sharply salty and Sourish. 🌶️ First taste of it assaults your Nostrils, then the Spiciness slowly creeps in from the back of your tongue. 🌶️
This is and Excellent Chilli for Roasted Meats.
🦆 Quality of the Roast Duck
Compared to You Kee, the Roast Duck here is definitely on a Much Higher Level. 👍 Meat doesn't taste Gamey. 😋 While I didn't like that it is mostly Boney and not as much Meat, the Meat it does have is Fat and Juicy. 😋 This is a Good Restaurant Quality Duck. At least it lives up to its Signboard. You Kee's Roast Duck as I mentioned in my past review is a Complete Joke compared to Meng Meng. 😅
🐷 Quality of the Roasted Pork (Sio Bak)
Again, this is a Much Better Quality Sio Bak compared to You Kee. 👍 It is Salty with a Delightful Smokey Taste. Skin is Crunchy and Meat is on the Firmer Side. You Kee's Sio Bak is a Complete Disgrace compared to Meng Meng. 😅
🍖 Quality of the Char Siew
The Char Siew is Charred Beautifully, Fatty and Not Overly Porky and not Overly Sweet. 😋 But it cannot compare to You Kee's MELT IN THE MOUTH "Meat Candy" Char Siew. 🤔 Don't get me wrong, Meng Meng's Char Siew is a Decent Char Siew, but there is Absolutely No Question that You Kee's Char Siew is on Another Level Completely. 🤔
Meng Meng Roasted Meats are all Acceptable Decent Quality but Nothing is Super Mind Blowingly Good. 🤔 Amount of Meats I feel is just Nice for 1 Big Eater to Enjoy. The 2-3 People that they recommend eating this must be Very Small Eaters hahaha! 😅 I would also highly recommend ordering Rice to pair with these as they can be Salty. 🍚
You Kee's Insane Melt in the Mouth Char Siew blows Meng Meng out of the Water, but its Roasted Duck and Sio Bak are a Complete Joke. 😅 Both are Good Restaurants that have their Good and Bad Points. 🤔
Why did this Restaurant get my Highest Top Score?
The Polite way to eat is to take a Piece of Meat from the Platter, put it on a Smaller Plate and eat from the Smaller Plate. 🍽️👍 But I purposely did not request for another plate and ate from the Platter as I wanted to test if the Staffs are Alert and will react to my Plate-less Situation. 🤔
During the 1st Half of the Meal, no one came over and offered me a Plate, and in my mind, I had already decided to lower my score for this Restaurant for this Goof-Up. 🍽️🤔 Mid-Way during my Meal however, a Young Staff actually came over and after seeing me without a Plate, actually handed me a Small Plate without me reminding, and she even apologized for not providing the Plate when they first served. 😳 Apology Accepted! 😄 Hahaha!
100% Perfect Customer Service is really difficult to achieve and sometimes Service Lapses or Goof-Ups will occur due to Human Errors or Oversight. 🤔 But its how a place does Service Recovery that is more important. 😅 A Lesser Restaurant would have just simply ignored me and left me to eat from the Platter all the way to the end. 😅
I appreciate the attentiveness of the Staff who decided to take action even Mid-Way during my Meal and performed her Service Recovery to me as soon as she saw my situation. 👍 This is very Commendable Customer Service, and is the reason why I have no issues giving this place my Highest Top Score. 👍
RM53.35 (S$15.35) isn't exactly cheap, and while nothing tastes exceptionally Mind-Blowing here, they are all still Decent Restaurant Quality Roasted Meats and the Customer Service while goofed-up in the Beginning, was still worth it in the end due to the Effort in Service Recovery. I'm Impressed with the Effort and still enjoyed my Meal here. 👍 Have you eaten at Meng Meng before? I'd love to know what are your thoughts!
