If you are a regular visitor to JB via the Causeway, you will surely notice this very Popular Shop at the Entrance of JB Sentral that has Perpetual Super Long Queues that never seems to end. The ever Beautiful Smell of Caramelized Crust fills the air here.

This is a Mexican Coffee Bun, or more popularly known as "Rotiboy", a uniquely Malaysian Bakery Creation. I have never bothered to buy this because I hate to queue. Only managed to finally buy it when I had the Rare Chance to spot only 4 people in the queue early in the morning, so I figured why not. Bought 1 Original Rotiboy to try.

NOW I understand why this is Popular.

The Bun has a Beautiful Slightly Burnt Crackling Crust and when you bite into it, it almost explodes with lots of Hot Liquid Butter (or Margarine) within. The Whole Bun has a very Sweet Taste.

The Key to this Bun is really the Inner Filling. It's Super Hot, Soft and Moist and the Liquid Butter thats soaked within the Bread is really the Soul. Because of this Butter, this also makes this a Very Oily Bread. I mentioned Margarine earlier because this doesn't have a very Strong Buttery taste that you would normally expect when you use Butter, so perhaps its Margarine instead of Butter?

In addition, I also tasted a very Faint Presence of Cheese that seems almost like a Tease. Really interesting and quite unexpected. Because the Buns are actually Baked on the Spot instead of being delivered from a Central Kitchen elsewhere, personally I feel this is best when eaten FRESH Immediately after you buy it instead of dapao as I see so many people do. It's really Insanely Good when eaten Fresh like this.

There are many similar Rotiboy Knockoffs in many Bakeries, and while they may nail the look, and even the Crackling Outer Crust, its the Inner Soft, Moist and Very Oily insides of the Bun that most can't get quite right. Perhaps its also because these Knockoffs are probably already Cold by the time you buy them. Kudos also to the Staffs here who are quite Friendly. It must not be an easy job given how long the queues always are. Their Friendly Attitude towards Customers also improves the Whole Experience for me.

Very Happy to finally be able to taste the Famous Original Rotiboy. This really is a very well made Bun, and really does live up to its Reputation. Will I buy this again? Absolutely yes, but only if I don't have to join a Super Long Queue.
