This was a Small Modern Cafe located in the Gim Shew Shophouses in Wadi Hana. đ️ As are the rest of the Cafes here, it also opened only very recently. Its very Sparsely Decorated and is going for a Minimalistic Industrial Look aka "Save Money on Renovations." đ They have a Very Small Menu as you can see in my Photo with not alot of items. đ But I was ok with it, since this was my Last Stop in Wadi Hana before I head back to Singapore so I was also somewhat Full already having eaten from other places. đ

I liked that the Plates and Utensils they use are predominantly Metal. đŊ️ Even their Table Coasters are made of Metal. I appreciate that each Table have a Bottle of Plain Water available whether you order any drinks or not. đ§đCaffe Latte took 4 Mins to Serve up, followed by the Pain Au Chocolat which took 7 Mins. Everything was up by 7 Mins.
Very Procedural type of Customer Service Vibe from the Supervisor
The Staffs here are Very Young and I was initially greeted by a Chinese Guy who looked like the Supervisor. đ¤ĩ♂️ I'll be honest, although he tries to be Polite, he doesn't give me a Very Approachable Feel. đ¤ The General Vibe I get from him is that he is trying to do what I describe as "Procedural Customer Service", not "True Customer Service". đ¤
I don't even remember seeing him smile at all. đ¤ He just gave me the impression he is just following thru the Motions of Customer Service rather than actually trying to be Friendly. đ¤ In fact, I feel he seems more concerned about his Cash Register than me as a Customer tbh. đĩđ
Much Friendlier Customer Service from a Junior Staff
There was however a Malay Junior Staff by the name of Muhammad. đ¤ĩ♂️ I could tell he was probably new because I occasionally see the Chinese Senior Staff teaching and guiding him on what to do. đ¤ Even though a more Junior Staff, Muhammad gave off a Much More Friendlier Vibe in Comparison. đ I could feel his Eagerness and Willingness to serve and I was impressed when he could confidently give me his Recommendation for a Zero Sugar Beverage. đĨ¤đ In fact, Muhammad was really the Sole Reason why I did not give this place a Lower Score. đ
☕ Caffe Latte (No Sugar, Iced) = RM13.00
I'm no Coffee Connoisseur but I feel this is ok lah. đ¤ Taste abit more on the Milky Side. Coffee Taste is Subtle but its Presence can still be felt.
I'd describe this as perhaps a Slightly Better Version of Mcdonalds Iced Latte. ☕đ Acceptable but don't taste very special for me.
đŠ Pain au Chocolate = RM10.00
I've heard of this Pastry before but never really tried the Real Thing because its so expensive in Singapore! đ¸đŦđ They give a pair of Fork and Knife for this, but I feel don't need to pretend to act Atas lah as using Fork and Knife will just cause it to Crumble in a Million Pieces. đŊ️đ I find it more convenient to just hold it with my hand and munch it. Barbaric probably, but more Convenient hahaha! đŠđ
This Pastry is like a Variant of a Croissant with an Emphasis on Layering. I reckon the method to make this should be roughly the same. đĨđ¤ Just like a Croissant, this is the sort of Pastry that is "Outside Crispy, Inside Soft" type. Croissant itself is a Very Complicated Pastry to make so I do appreciate the Technique behind this. đ¤

Before I ate this, I also assumed this Pastry is like a Liu Sha Bao with Hot Chocolate Cream Oozing out if I were to Break it but it doesn't work that way. đ¤ The Filling is actually only abit of Slightly Hardened Dark Chocolate. đĢ There's not alot of it and only gives a little tease of Chocolate when you bite into it. đ¤ Not Overly Sweet. Imagine a Chocolate Flavoured Croissant with a Very Small bit of Dark Chocolate Cream within as you're not off from what this taste like. đĢđĨđ¤

Having said that, as I have baked Pastries myself, I suspected this isn't made Fresh In-House. đŠđ¤ Unlike a True In-House Made Pastry, I could not taste any Presence of Butter at all. đ§đ¤ The Overall Look also don't look Vibrant and the Bite Feel just didn't tasted Fresh. If you bake Pastry and eat them Fresh, you will understand what I mean. đĨ

Looking at how small this Cafe is, I also highly doubt they have an Actual Full Kitchen with a Proper Oven. đ¤ I had my suspicion that this is probably from some Pastry Supplier. đ¤ Muhammad confirmed my Suspicion and admitted that this IS indeed from a Supplier. đ¤ Bingo. In fact none of their Pastries are made in-house and are all from a Supplier. Totally ååžåēæĨ this is a Supplier Level type of Pastry. đŠđ¤

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
RM13.00 (S$4.00) for this Standard of Latte I feel is not worth the money. Nothing special about it, it tastes like any other Iced Latte. ☕đ¤ If an Actual Michelin-Awarded Fine Dining Restaurant like Neighbourwood that I reviewed previously in Penang can offer their Coffee at RM9.00, I don't see why THIS place can dare to ask for more. đ¤
RM10.00 (S$3.10) for a Pastry that's not made Inhouse and just merely from a Supplier is a Waste of Money and dare I say it, an Absolute Insult to Actual Pastry Chefs everywhere. đ Do you have any idea how much Hard Work and Effort goes into the making of a Pastry like this? đĨđ
Is this how such Modern Cafes operate? Rent a Shoplot, đ Renovate it a little and get some Supplier-Level Pastry đĨ and you can call yourself a Cafe čæŋ already? ☕đ¤ Maybe I'm not the Target Audience for this place. Muhammad is really the Only Thing that I feel is good about this place. đ Even though a Newer Staff, I feel he has an Inate Customer Service Attitude and with more Experience can certainly excel further. đ¤ĩ♂️đI'm sorry if I sounded too harsh for this Review but I just feel there is No Reason for why this Cafe needs to exist. đ¤ Pastries are sourced from a Supplier, đĨ Customer Service Level also so so only. The Supervisor was more concerned about his Cash Register than me even when we were Conversing. đĩđ¤ What can this place offer that other Cafes cannot? đ¤ Unless they decide to re-think their Concept, don't bother with this place. đ ♂️ There are other Cafes that are worth your money and time here at the Gim Shew Shophouses. đ¤
