This is a Popular Dim Sum Place that is always being recommended by Food Blogs and Social Media Influencers. 😅 Whenever there are any JB Top 10 Lists, I will always see this place listed for some reason. 📜

Its quite an Old Looking Eatery with quite alot of people on a Thursday at 8.30am. 🤔 The Staffs are Friendly and Welcoming but mostly keep to themselves. 👍 There are no Menu in this place, and you just go up to the Baskets of Dim Sum they have right infront of the Shop to pick whatever you fancy. 🤔
烧卖 Siew Mai = RM5.00
I'll be very honest, I feel the Siew Mais here are really very small, about the Size of an Average Fishball. 😅 These are also probably the Ugliest Siew Mai I've seen so far in JB. 😅 Wanton Skin is Completely Broken, and the Whole Thing just looks like a Mess. 难看死了 😅 That said, they look Handmade, not a Mass Produced Factory Product.

Nothing really special about the Taste of this thing. Its very Average and Porky Taste is Noticeable. 🐷🤔 Taste very much like a Working Man sort of Siew Mai that is meant more to temporarily fill up the Belly. 🤔
虾饺 Har Gao = RM5.50
Har Gaos were also very small but at least they look Decent. 😅 Taste of the Filling is Acceptable. There is 1 Small Prawn and Filling is Juicy and doesn't taste Overly Prawny. 🦐 Nothing Special about this, its just Acceptable. 🤔

叉烧包 Char Siew Bao = RM2.50 Each
The CSB Size looks Big, but its actually quite Deflated which I thought looked quite Cute. 😅 Dough is Soft and Pillowy and the Char Siew Filling is coated with the Same Sweet Sauce that you normally get for Chee Cheong Fun which was an Interesting Interpretation of this Classic Dish. 🍯🤔 Not Overly Sweet, I would say this CSB is not bad. Not Amazing, but Not Bad.

Conclusion and Closing Thoughts
Everything for a Total Combined Price of RM13.00 (S$3.80) is a Reasonable Price to pay, but I feel is not really worth the Overall Quality. 🤔 I have no idea why this particular Dim Sum Eatery is being promoted so heavily in Social Media as I found the taste of their Standard Fundamental Dim Sums to be Very Average. 🤔 This is at most about the Same Type of Quality as our SG S$1.50 Dim Sum Standard.

And if compared to 福振興餐室 Hock Chiang Hin Dim Sum in Jalan Wong Ah Fook that I reviewed previously, they are also not the Cheapest Dim Sums around nor the Closest One to the CIQ. 🤔
烧卖 Siew Mai: (Kak Kak = RM5.00) / (Hock Chiang Hin = RM3.00)
虾饺 Har Gao: (Kak Kak = RM5.50) / (Hock Chiang Hin = RM3.00)
叉烧包 Char Siew Bao: (Kak Kak = RM2.50) / Hock Ching Hin = RM1.80)
That said, I did appreciate that the Cashier is Friendly 😄 and was very clear in providing me the Prices for Each Individual Dim Sums that I ordered. 👍 Personally I cannot really recommend this. 🤔 Taste-wise feels very Average for me. But if you are here in Taman Pelangi, have a Craving for Dim Sum and have no idea where else to go, then perhaps this is an Ok place to visit. 🤔 At least the Staffs here are Friendly and Welcoming. 👍
After left hospital job, I switch to electrical contractor company. The office was behind this Kak Kak dim sum. During the 90's I don't like the skinny guy that look after the dim sum basket, sibeh lansi so I also seldom buy from them. Actually their dim sum not very nice too. Ya, the sui mai very ugly, hahahaha.... 100% handmade lor but bad wrapping skill.
ReplyDeleteThis road also known as News paper publisher road cos most of the news papers office, agency, publisher office are along this road.
Those days everyday lunch hour will walk to Plaza Pelangi mall window shopping sniff for best buy. When Kerry department store closed down, I pratically sapu all the lego sets that on offer 70% to 80% off. Happen to walk past saw them put in basket so I took almost all of it 40 + sets big and small. Have to take taxi back ot office instead of walk. hahahaha.. My daughter happy lah. We still keeping the lego from the 90's era.
Wah from hospital to electrical hahaha 😅 姐姐 u really all industry also try sia. 真是不简单 🫡
Deleteya hahaha sibeh ugly Siew Mai 😅 dunno why all the social media all write until 有龙有虎 🐯🐲😅 but yea at least they handmade la
newspaper publisher road is certainly something new most Singaporeans won't know. thanks for the trivia! 😄
plaza Pelangi itself looks like it has also seen better days. not dead yet but can tell quieten alot 🤔 hahaha Lego is valuable leh, can flip for profit 💵😄
Last time school holiday need help in family hardware shop & clothing shop. We mainly sew school uniform, so at very young age I already learn sewing. After that work in private hospital, then switched job to electrical contractor office due want spent time with my daughter. Now stick to electrical lah but company upgrade doing CCTV, door access, networking system, but cater to industrials, hotels and commercial building only. Now office moved to Taman Daya, easier lor. 5 mins from home only.
DeleteYalah, I saw somebody comment the best old school dim sum wor. hahaha... The one in town Hock Chiang Hin, those day during the 80's got 1 oldman sibeh kwai lan. I went once only after that I stop going, we pay money not eat free no need to be so lansi raise his voice like get up from wrong side of the bed kind.
Plaza Pelangi like want to die cannot die that kind. hahahaha.. Now all the computer shops new and second hand at level 2 and 3. Sport planets level 4 selling all the off season branded sport wear and shoes at discounted price. Mercato supermarket at Plaza Pelangi business quite good cos they selling alot of imported stuff cater for expatriate. Food choice not much.
Really interesting Career Journey you've had. 👍 Really can learn alot
DeleteI like Hock Chiang Hin. No issues with Customer Service and so far the most affordable. Not super amazing but decent. 👍
Interesting insight for Plaza Pelangi hahaha 😄 ya before it was mercato, I was surprise it was Cold Storage.
